My quilts both won third place!

On the first day of Innovations (Wednesday) I visited the quilt show after my classes were finished for the day. I wondered who had won what, as there were no ribbons on anything, but hoped to check again before the show was over. Well, that never happened, as Thursday I was in Bellevue, where I gave two lectures and taught a class to the Eastside Quilter's Club, and then Friday turned out to be very busy with just a short visit to a couple vendors before heading to visit our construction project.

Tuesday, while I was working on a quilt project with Alice from Block Party Quilters, there was a knock at the door, and I had to sign for a package. It was my quilts returning from the show, so I anxiously open the box, and was surprised to find 4 third place ribbons. Two were from the official judge, as they were filled out on the back, and I can only guess that the other two were from the peer judged votes from visitors to the show - I'm so Grateful and Amazed!!!

And here's the small Fantasy Fish quilt

This quilt is much smaller than the other two fish quilts, so it only has a couple types of fish. The tie dye center fabric is a hand dye that I made a few years ago.
Now I'm off to work on my bargello quilt, and this one is going to be mine for a while, so when it's finished I'll definitely have a picture to post (unlike the one I sent off without one).

Fantasy Fish quilt pattern is done!

Well, I've finally finished all three of my fish quilts! This one has all of the fish and other creatures, so it is the patttern quilt. The other two are smaller, and can be made from the same patterns. Of course, you could also make a larger or smaller quilt with more or fewer creatures, and a single fish would look great on a placemat! People are always asking about my quilting, so I've included a few close-ups so you can see all the details. The earlier fish quilt post had the quilt that is just a bit smaller than this one - it is the same width, but shorter than this one, so could not fit the last couple of fish. It also had extra embellishment that is not in the pattern. This quilt only contains the fish and other creatures that are in the pattern. Fussy cutting the fabrics you have, or can find in the quilt shops can help to create a more realistic-looking undersea world.

If you live in Western Washington, the three quilts are going to be in three different shops for you to see. Today, they are going to Gathering Fabric, Quilting by the Sea, and The Sundown Quilt Shop. Links to these shops can be found under links, in the upper right.

Later today or tomorrow I'll upload pictures of the small quilt, as I'm out of time right now - have to go deliver those quilts!

Fish quilt details

I was asked if I had any detail photos of the fish quilt, so here they are:
Close up of some fish and quilting on the left side of the quilt.
Detail of beading on starfish and some of the lower background.
Lower left detail photo showing small basket sponge, mussels, and more quilting.

Fantasy Fish almost finished

This quilt is still in progress, but almost finished. I had entered it in my local quilt guild's show before it was finished, so this picture was how it looked for the show (I wasn't done, but had to turn it in before the deadline - I've learned my lesson and won't enter a quilt that's in progress again). I'm still adding more embellishments, and will then block it. It is the first in a series of three, the largest of them will be made into a pattern, because it is the only one that will have all the creatures that will be contained in the pattern. The smaller quilts will have a subset of them, but also have other techniques added that will not be in the pattern, such as my basket sponge, sea feather, and mussels that are in this quilt.
