Sunday's sofa 25.1.2015

Sunday's sofa 25.1.15

"Drive by shootings", some pictures are intriguing, some aren't. But photography is my fav theme right now.

Annie Leibovitz "Life through a lense"- great documentary.

"Where women create" was a gift from a Flickrfriend- thank you ever so much, Tanja!

"Autoportrait" is a wonderful book. Read it!

I am in my Müsli phase right now.

Quote on the collage card: "It's better to do nothing than to be concerned with nothing."

Talking about photos. I transfered some of my Berlin and London photos into b/w and the result is quite satisfactory.

A trip to Berlin (2) Going from Heinrichplatz to Görlitzer Bahnhof

Leaving the book shop, I walk over to Heinrichplatz. Heinrichplatz Nothing much changes here. It’s strange, because Berlin is a quick changing place. The organic food store „Kraut & Rüben“ is one of the first organic food stores in Berlin, I think. Since 1978. "Kraut und Rüben" „Macht kaputt, was euch kaputt macht“ (Destroy what destroys you) was one of the slogans of alternative culture in the Kreuzberg of my childhood. Here you can listen to the German band “Ton Steine Scherben”. Kreuzberg was an area with cheap appartments and huge rear house studios at that time. Further on, down the Oranienstraße. „Isolation is torture“- art environments are everywhere, may they be on purpose or accidentely. Isolation is torture A little fur monster as „Guerilla Art“. The art of fur This wall is filled with ever changing art work, poster art, graffiti and stuff. Second World War bombs left many of such huge walls. Wall Art in Kreuzberg At the end of the street there is the station Görlitzer Bahnhof. Görlitzer Bahnhof Everyone loves us. And Mary too. The Gods love us Back into the line 1, but only one stop to Schlesisches Tor. This was the old final stop when Berlin was still devided. I have lived there as a child til I was 3. Schlesisches Tor 3 Schlesisches Tor Schlesischer Tor 2 What it looked like, when I was a child: U-Bahn Winter Stay tuned for part 3.

A trip to Berlin Part two: Mitte

Mitte is a district more trendy, more chic than Prenzlauerberg.
But it has also got its corners of wild, selfmade art and so many interesting nooks to find.

Berlin Mitte 1.

Berlin Mitte 2

Berlin MItte 4

In the backyard of „The Hackische Höfe“ there is so much art and an exhibition about Anne Frank.

Berlin Mitte 8

These mailboxes must be a nightmare to every postman.
Berlin Mitte 6

Altered pages are everywhere! I love it!
Berlin Mitte 3

Art and art again, you just have to look a bit closer.
Berlin Mitte 7

Art and politics get together very well.
Berlin Mitte 5

If you ever come to Berlin, get off at S-Bahn "Hackischer Markt" and then walk down the Oranienburger Straße. That’s a great place for eating out and visiting interesting places.

I’ve got all this and a delicious soup for only $6.40.
Berlin Mitte 9

It’s just vis-à-vis from the Artist’s house „Tacheles“. Always a big attraction for tourists.
Berlin Mitte 10
And btw: all people speak English fluently in Berlin’s tourist area. And I did not hear much German voices anymore, only English, French and dutch. ;)

A trip to Berlin Part 1: Prenzlauerberg

Come on with me on a trip to Berlin. I was born there and some times I am travelling back south to see it.
Berlin Kastanienallee

Berlin Art everywhere

This is Prenzlauerberg, a district in the former eastern part of town. Now it’s young, trendy, full of art. Or vandalism? Or art?!?

Capitalism kills, destroys, normalizes.

Berlin Kastanienallee 3

Art and politics, self made life, raising children, going to the wholefood store, sitting in a café...

Berlin Kastanienallee 4

Kitsch, art and a bit of nature, as it should be.

Berlin Kastanienallee 5

Berlin Kastanienallee 6
Love the book postcard: "My life" is written on it.

Berlin Kastanienallee 8

Berlin Schönhauserallee
Schönhauser Allee. Now I am driving from Prenzlauerberg to Mitte. (Yes, that’s the name of the district, simply „Middle“.)
Berlin Weinmeisterstr. U Bahn
The Underground station with an interesting exhibition.
Berlin Weinmeisterstr. U Bahn 2

More about "Mitte" tomorrow.

Btw: Today, August 13, 2011, 50 years ago my grandfather was waking up, went to his little shop and can't believe it. The bridge he lived by ended at a wall, that hasn't been there the night before.
The Berlin Wall.
