Tim's Tags

Hi everyone!

This is a first for me - Making one of Tim's Tags...I had always seen them before but never did any because I didn't own any of the items! I know I could use other items but I always wanted it to be linked to Tim's original tag in some way - but with my own interpretation.

This time, for the first time ever, I looked at the instructions and thought - "I have that, got one of those but in a different colour, got some of those, I don't have that but I do have something similar....." and before I knew it I was sitting down and making the tag....and I had a lovely time doing it!

This tag was based on learning about the new stencils....and luckily mine arrived in the post that day! I only had three (well, you have to start somewhere and three is better than none) so I couldn't do lots of different layers but I decided to give it a go...

I started by using texture paste on the clockwork stencil in opposite corners of the tag. Since the others I own are Burlap and Dot fade, I thought clockwork would provide the most dramatic image for the paste.

I decided as I had most but not all of the items I would change the colour scheme slightly and I chose autumn colours. I picked up Peeled Paint, Spiced Marmalade and Tarnished Brass DS and smooshed them all over the tag very randomly...I decided not to think about it - just go for it. I spritzed with water that had some Mica Powder in and dried it with the heat gun, moving the tag around to blend the colours.

I then got the Burlap Stencil and in the opposite corners to the clocks, I stencilled Vintage Photo DI. Then I used the Dot stencil and dabbed Vintage Photo DP using a sponge. In the center of the tag I applied Picket Fence DP with a sponge.

I used some Tim Holtz stamps and stamped the butterflies in one corner using Potting Soil Archival ink and the text was randomly dabbed around the tag with the same archival ink.

I chose two Chit-Chat stickers that seemed to be appropriate for this tag....it isn't perfect, there are a few things I wished hadn't happened, but the most important thing was fun and learning! So I am embracing imperfection! - I really am!...I decided after doing this tag that I would try again - try to make it better...but of course with the second I tried too hard, thought about it too much and it was....terrible!...This tag was far better, it has it's little errors, but if you compare the two, this one is by far the better tag - sometimes imperfection is better

I didn't have the Distress marker to draw around the words so I improvised with a soft lead pencil and smudged it.

I chose a brad to attach to the top of the card with paper ribbon and raffia.

A pen nib stained with Espresso alcohol ink was added....Yes, I know the word on the pen is the wrong way up but remember - I am embracing imperfection...and I wanted the pen to face that way!

I hope you like my first ever Tim Tag....I loved making it!

Thanks so much for being here - Hope to see you again soon!

How does your garden grow?

How does my garden grow? - it doesn't! Plants wilt at the sight of me and quake with fear...I am a hopeless gardener - despite my love of flowers. Perhaps that is why they feature in so much of my work....at least I don't have to remember to water these!

It isn't a canvas - I wanted to enter the 'Simon Says' challenge which asked to use something you were going to throw away. Several sheets of card had been rescued from the bin and were waiting to be used. I don't normally do this kind of thing on flat card - the card I am always eager to save is corrugated for lovely shabby effects. This is just plain thick brown card that arrived inside a pack of scrapbook pages......

I was trying to achieve here...a kind of Victorian Summer garden, delicate roses, lots of random grasses, that lovely haze you find on a gorgeous hot sunny afternoon....ahhh bliss. I certainly have had a lot of inspiration with the gorgeous weather we are having...

So I started off with that piece of plain brown card which arrived inside a pack of scrapbook album pages and was meant for the bin...and I applied texture paste through chicken wire stencil on opposite corners. I then painted the entire card with Vanilla Fresco paint and left to dry. When it was dry I dabbed Hey Pesto Fresco and Rose Fresco paint and wiped with a baby wipe.

I stamped some Tim Holtz Hedgerow stamps with Shabby Shutters and Victorian Velvet DI. This dried very pale and I stamped further hedgerow stamps with Peeled Paint DI to give some depth and distance to the plants.

I then cut out roses and daises from serviettes and applied them to the card with Mod Podge. I dry brushed layers of Hey Pesto, Chocolate Pudding and Vanilla Fresco paint around the edges and then dabbed a dot stamp with Chocolate Pudding and Vanilla Fresco paint

The picture still looked very flat especially as the dry brushing of dark colours had made the roses appear in shadow. I decided to add some lighter roses to look like they were bathed in sunlight and again add further depth to the picture. Serviettes wouldn't show up applied to dark painted areas so I painted some Snowflake Fresco paint and applied the rose serviettes over the paint. I painted a light coat of Snowflake Fresco paint over the daisies to brighten the petals.

A butterfly was stamped on cream coloured card with Coffee Archival ink and stained with Tattered Rose and Bundled Sage DS and then covered in white iridescent Mica powder.

Script stamp was added in Coffee Archival ink and I placed a quote in the centre stamped again with Coffee Archival Ink.

A quick sponging of the edges with Chocolate Pudding Fresco paint added a vintage shabby look

Hope you like this Summer picture! Hope to see you again soon!

The Flying Flower

Welcome back to Laurart! I have been shopping at PaperArtsy and was spoilt for choice when trying to decide what to buy - I wanted stencils as I felt that was something I had not mastered yet and needed to practice - ( and I bought various Fresco paints, grungeboard letters, archival ink, hanging boards and Treasure Gold - but they are all part of other posts to come!)

So, my stencilling experiments - I had fun making a nice tag...nothing planned, just sat and played - It was so much fun!

First I used the chicken wire stencil and applied some paste. When that was dry I chose the three colours that I used for my last project - Scattered Straw, Tumbled Glass and Shabby Shutters. I began to blend them over the card.

I added further detail using the chicken wire stencil again, but using Peeled Paint.

I then applied Peeled Paint through the harlequin stencil. And then went around the edges adding some Vintage Photo just to enhance the shading and add some shabby look to it.

Now to decorate it....I had some flowers left over from another project that were coloured with Weathered Wood and Antique Linen Stain.

I cut out a butterfly from the Melange tissue paper. I stuck the butterfly onto card and then coloured it with the inks. When it was dry I added some Diamond Stickles glue (I bought this a while ago but hadn't used it yet - I am not really a 'glitter' person - But I really liked it!)

I wanted to capture that gorgeous iridescent sheen that butterfly wings have so I dabbed some clear embossing ink over the wings and that added a dusting of a pale pink iridescent mica powder. I am very new to using Mica Powders - so was unsure if I was doing the right thing - but I think it looked wonderful and gave just the effect I was after.

And now the quote - Tim Holtz stamp was perfect - It is the little things that make life BIG! I adore that stamp and it was very appropriate for this tag.

So there it is...fun experimentation and learning how to use stencils. I am going to have fun with my growing collection!

Thank you so much for being here and taking a look at what I have made - your comments mean so much - I would love to hear what you think of my work!
