Rust no.4

Hi everyone!

Time has come to share Rust creation No.4!  This one started out as a very plain frame made using the usual rust method. It was given a Paynes Grey wash after the coat of Paynes grey/white acrylic paint and this was followed with Quinacridone Gold.

and this is what it looks like now....

I cut a heart from card and painted it with Decoart Media Burnt Umber paint. I then covered it with a torn dictionary page.

I smeared it with some crackle paint before dry brushing with Quinacridone Gold and Burnt Umber paint and sanding it down to distress the paint.

I added some rusty mesh that I found while walking the dog! I love finding bits of junk and turning them into a treasure!.

I used some Tando Hearts that were covered with Decoart Titan Buff paint before covering with Decoart Crackle Glaze.

When dry I rubbed them with Quinacridone Gold paint.
A few drops of Onyx Liquid Pearls were added.

I used a Found Relatives Photo inside the frame

I brushed an embossed post card sign with Pewter Treasure gold after painting it with Burnt Umber Paint.

Rusty twisted wire was used as a hanger

There is my finished Rust Hanger....

Hope you liked it!

The next (and final ) Rust creation will be the one made using this -

Hope you will come back to see the final creation!

Happy Crafting!

Rust and Crackle

Hi everyone,

Here is a card I made - messing around with crackle and rust....

First I covered a piece of tissue paper with every script and text stamp I have. I used Potting Soil Archival ink and covered the tissue paper completely.

Then I stuck this tissue paper to a piece of card and covered the tissue with a coat of matte medium

I had just got some Decoart Crackle paint and was having a lot of fun seeing what effects I could get....

Here I got a palette knife and scooped the paint out of the tub and smeared it randomly across the card. Thin in some places, thicker in others. I just simply swiped - I didn't try to level out or smooth the paint at all.....it stayed where it landed....

When dry there was a huge variation in crackle from huge cracks to tiny.

I then covered the card with layers of Antiquing cream - first Patina Green, then English red oxide and then Raw Umber. Because they can be wiped away they should be fixed with varnish between coats - but here I wasn't too worried about the effects - it was all play really and seeing what would happen.........

I cut a heart shape out of card and dabbed some Evergreen Bough Distress paint on it.

the I covered it with Vintage Photo DI

Then dabbed with some Raw Umber acrylic paint then sprinkled with Vintage Photo Distress embossing powder.

I wrapped the heart up in some rusty wire and attached a chit chat sticker that had been dabbed with some Vintage Photo DI.

Hope you like it!

Happy Crafting!

Forever and a day

Hi everyone!

Valentines day is nearly here and I wanted to share a Valentine creation with you. Not your usual red and pink hearts and flowers. For this one I tried to focus on more masculine colours and less flower power....well, except for a very tiny bit... ;o)

I made the hearts by cutting them out of balsa wood. I used a heart template to ensure they were all identical. I sanded down the edges of the hearts and then painted them with French Roast Fresco paint.

I then applied some crackle glaze with a palette knife and when this was dry I painted it with Picket Fence Distress paint. Not my usual choice for crackle effects but it is a more translucent paint and that was the effect I wanted.

When this was dry I stamped some swirls with Jet Black archival ink - I wanted the whole effect to be rustic and tarnished and so I didn't want a perfectly stamped image -  so I held the unmounted stamp in my hand and rolled and dabbed it across the hearts. Then I painted the hearts with three coats of Decoart varnish.

The frame was made by cutting out a background of cardboard and then cutting four frame pieces. I stuck them to the cardboard back and when dry I painted both the frame and the background with several coats of Decoart chalk paint in Lace.

Then I applied a thick layer of Decoart Crackle paint and when this was dry Raw Umber Antiquing cream was applied and then wiped away to reveal enhanced cracks

A strip of twine braid was glued to the middle of the frame background. The hearts were stuck onto the twine. The letters were grunge board letters covered with Mocha Mousse Fresco Paint and then covered with Crackle Glaze. When dry the glaze was painted with Raw Umber Antiquing Cream to highlight the crackle.

Chit chat stickers formed the sentence "Forever and a day" and I stuck them onto each heart after dabbing the edges with Pumice Stone DI.

A fabric blossom was painted with a Decoart Chalk paint in lace and a pearl bead added to the center

Silver screw brads were used to attach the cream string that was used to hang the picture.

And this is the Valentines Gift I will give my Husband on the 14th - Don't tell him!!! ;o)

Happy Crafting!

Tic Tac Toe!

Hi everyone!

Over at Our Creative Corner it is our wonderful Julia hosting the challenge this month! Come over and play with us...

 Tic Tac Toe!

How easy is this?
Well, we do like a challenge over at Our Creative Corner, so Julia has made this Tic Tac Toe grid very slightly trickier...Here is what she says about it...

"For this challenge please choose one line from the grid shown. This can be a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line....
but you must select the middle square as one of your choices.

What you make is your choice but please ensure that the three items you have chosen are clearly visible on your make.
Please state in your post which line you have chosen.
Inks, stains, sprays etc can be used as necessary on your project".

So there is the challenge this month - pick a line - make sure it goes through the center square of the grid - and make something!
Add it to the challenge over at Our Creative Corner and you could be a winner of some fabulous goodies from our wonderful sponsor this month...

I chose the line including Metal/Stamps/Crackle Medium.

I chose some Artistic Outpost Stamps and stamped the 'Cocoa' image onto white card with Potting Soil Archival ink. I then tore around the edges before dabbing over it with Walnut Stain DI.

I stamped the words Wonder and Think onto white card with Potting Soil Archival ink and inked it with Walnut Stain DI. I then attached some bronze brads to the strip of card.

I used some corrugated card as the background of the hanging. I tore sections away and then painted the entire thing with Fresco French Roast Paint. I then covered it all in a fairly thick layer of Decoart crackle Paint. When dry the edges of the background were lightly dabbed with Walnut Stain DI

A few strips of tissue tape were added to the background and the focal image stuck on to the background

Rusty hearts were added

The background was then stuck onto rigid card that had been inked with Walnut Stain DI

Bronze Hinge fasteners were used with brown wire as a hanger

There is my finished Tic Tac Toe creation - hope you like it!

It would be lovely to see you play along with us this month...

.....as well as having our wonderful sponsor Tando Creative joining us this month to give a lucky winner a wonderful prize, there is also the chance you could be picked as the winner and find yourself here in the Spotlight as our Top Talent.....you could also be one of our Top 3's and be featured in the OCC Pinterest Gallery!

Hope to see you soon!

Happy Crafting!

Reading in the dark

Hi everyone!

Today I am bringing you the new challenge over at Fashionable Stamping Challenges. We would like to see your creations feature -

Silhouettes

I was a bit stuck with this one at first - mainly because I had no idea where to go with colour - then I thought why not just do a monochrome creation - forget colours!

I used a Flonzcraft silhouette stamp and stamped it in black Archival ink onto a book page (Northanger Abbey - if you are interested!) It seemed an appropriate background for a silhouette of a book reader!

I cut an oval from embossed card and then painted it with silver acrylic paint before dabbing with some french Roast Fresco paint - I always use this paint to add a distressed effect to surfaces, because it is transparent it doesn't cover the original colour and it adds such a gorgeous tarnished effect.

I then brushed the embossed card with Pewter Treasure Gold to highlight the embossing and really bring out the metal effect.

The stamped image was then stuck behind the oval frame

I used TH Tattered Florals die cuts to make the roses. Before constructing the roses I scrunched each flower to break down the card and make it more pliable. When they were creased and bendable I very roughly applied Brushed Pewter crackle paint. I wanted the petals to be streaked with paint so it was a very quick 'smoosh the paint on' job rather than a neat application.

When dry and crackled I dabbed Black Soot DI all over the flowers. The crackle paint resists the ink and the ink also darkened the cracks. Then I constructed the roses.

Because I had crumpled the card before constructing it was easier to fold and bend the petals and glue into place.

I painted some die cut leaves with London Night Fresco paint and then covered with Decoart Crackle glaze. When dry I rubbed French Roast Fresco paint into the cracks to highlight them before wiping the leaves clean.

Silver wire was used to make the hanger.

Why not come over and join us this time at Fashionable Stamping Challenges
Remember we are a stamping challenge so please feature a stamped focal image on your creation.
You could be the winner of $20 to spend at Flonzcraft Stamps! And of course you could be picked at one of our Catwalk Spotlights!
