April Showers Jelly Filled

A few months back I saw the cutest Jelly Filled quilt on @saracecilquilts Instgram feed (BTW if you don't have one of her ladders yet - GET one!  They are great!).  She made her's out of April Showers and I knew I had to make one just like it!

I started cutting 3 - yes 3 - Halloween, Christmas, and April Showers.  I love this pattern.  Takes 1 jelly roll and some yardage for borders.  I made a scrappy one a month or two back for my sister and didn't add borders.  Its a great fast quilt if you need a gift too!

Out of the 3 I have my April Shower's quilt sewn, quilted and bound.  Eerie is close behind.

I used a newer quilting design called Water Drops

And used my favorite navy polka dot for the big big border!  Add a little stripe binding (I LOVE all these stripes from April Showers)

And the cute umbrella print for the back - and I have myself my new favorite quilt!

This was a sneak peak on Instagram.  So glad I have a finished quilt for me!  I can't remember the last time I finished a bigger quilt for myself.

I was wrapped up watching the Bachelor finale in it all night long!

First Finish of 2014

I love this new Country Girls line from Tasha Noel for Riley Blake.  The green and navy in this line just kill me!  I bought a few fat quarter bundles - and they flew out the door like hot cakes!  So I bought some more - and again - out the door.  I now have 2 bundles left (go here if you're interested) but I HAD to make something out of this line.

I wanted a little project I could actually finish - from start to finish (ok I haven't bound it yet - but hopefully that will be done by this weekend).  So I threw together this little baby quilt.

I bought a few bolts of the yardage - the blue main print with all the cute little girls and trees, barns and picnic scenes.  Some white with blueberries  and the green w/navy flowers (which might be my favorite!) I also got a bolt of the navy small gingham which I'm also going to bind it in.  I think I want to make this same quilt again - a tiny bit bigger and do the gingham on the bias and see if I like that.  I did some fun but simple quilting.  Crosshatch through the center, stitch in the ditch around the small gingham borders, some leaves and flowers in the bigger borders.  I was so happy with how it turned out!  I just can't get enough of this line!

For the back I used the cheater patchwork fabric which I LOVE (Have you seen the cute pillow on instagram out of this fabric?) but I used FLANNEL!  Perfect for something super soft for a cute little babe.
The only question left is - what should I make next?  I'm not a fussy cut kind of girl - but I'm thinking this fabric needs that!  I have a few charm packs too, so wondering what I could do with those.  Some kind of stripe/patchwork quilt....ummmmmm...I lay awake at night trying to think of these things!  Let me know if you have any ideas of me!

I've been mulling over kitting this little quilt up - let me know if you'd be interested in one if I get ambitious this weekend!

WIP Wednesdays

So - I said I wasn't making goals for this year - but I have SO MANY quilts I want to get to - I decided I needed to make a list to keep me on track.

My biggest goal for this year is to finish some of the projects I have started.  I've told myself - each month, even if I'm working on a new project - I need to have an UFO out and getting done as well.

Here is a list of UFO's for this year - these are projects I have actually started - as in have completed blocks.
- Route 44
- Swoon
- Christmas Granny Square
- Lincoln
- Vintage
- Round and Round
- Halloween Little Lollies
- HST - Marmalade (LOVING THIS QUILT)
- Scrumptious Squares

On my list of quilts I want to make - I've been looking through my Quilts I Love pinterest page and my goal this year is to get some of these quilts - or types of quilts made.  Starting with an Irish Chain.  I'm loving Irish Chains lately - just debating on a 2 color way or scrappy fun like this one.  I'm leaning this way using Happy Go Lucky....

So my list of new projects
- Irish Chain
- On a Whim (have fabrics out of High Streets)
- Christmas Round and Round (cut - just need to start it)
- April Showers blue/green quilt
- Cotton way - Cabin Christmas
- Plan C - JUST LIKE THIS (I also have it out of 12 days of Christmas and martinque  maybe I'll get them all done together)
- Scrap Jar Star out of my Florence fat quarters
- Jacob's Ladder quilt - something like this
- Button Box - like this one!
- Snow Blossoms  - out of Scrumptious

If you've made it this far down my list thanks!  Here is what I started working on in December.  I had big goals to be done by January - now I'm being a little more realistic and say - by the end of February.

- Saw this on Instagram and had to have my own.  I've got everything cut out and working through my blocks.

- HST in Marmalade - I started these blocks a year ago after taking Camille's first Craftsy class.  During Christmas break - Carrie and Thelma worked their way through a HST quilt which got me motivated to get mine out again.  I am LOVING working on this quilt and am so excited to get it done.  5 blocks down - making more HST and going to try Sherri's method - I'm thinking it will cut down some time in the trimming process for me.

- Route 44 - I took a class from Carrie of the Ms Rosie fame a few years back and I LOVE these blocks - no idea why it got pushed aside .... ok maybe I do - I think I had a 2 month old at the time of the class.  But - I dug it out - and had a few blocks to finish - they are all finished and trimmed and I just need to lay it out!  I've been working on cleaning my sewing room - from the tornado of 2013 and will have plenty of space to start this project back up in the next few days.

- Lincoln - I have 2 of these quilts in the work - one for me and one for a bday present someone ordered in july..... I'm slow - but my goal is to have it finished by the end of February.  Loving the low volume prints from French General.  This is going to be a beautiful, classy looking quilt!    Its twin sized - so I'm figuring out how to enlarge the pattern without ruining its perfection.  I think that is why I've procrastinated - seems like so many more blocks have to be done!

These are my main projects I'm working on - REALLY trying to finish them before starting another one - but I can't make any promises.  I feel like my April Showers fabric is calling my name!  I may need to start on a small project in the meantime so I have it finished by the time yardage arrives.  I'm hoping to have a few kits of a quilt in store for you all!  I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for sticking with my lengthy post!  I think I'm getting my mojo back!

Client Quilts

I feel like I haven't done a post of quilts forever!  So I'm going through my pictures trying to get caught up.  These ones are older quilts - like from last summer old!  Moving forward I'm going to try to post a weekly Client Quilts post with all the quilts I finished that week - so I stay on top of things a little better.  I throw in the old ones here and there until I'm caught up with everything.

This Rainbow Pinwheel quilt was done by Holly and was so bright and fun and happy to work on.

Surf was the pattern that was quilted on it.  I think it worked perfectly!

The backing was this fun bright polka dot - perfect for the colors on the front.  Holly bound it with a black and white stripe - PERECT choice!

This next quilt was also Holly's that she made for a friend.

Bubbles was the pattern she chose.  Bubbles is one of my most popular pattern requests and looks great on all quilts!  I like how the circles mix up all the straight lines.  I'm loving the blueish hues all together - and I still love a good chevron quilt!  Can't get enough of them.

This next one is a pattern Jodi from Pleasant Home put out around Christmas.  You can read more about it here - and get a free block tutorial.

I fell in love with this fabric - Holiday Bouquet by Amanda Murphy.  I promptly bought me a bundle and am contemplating designs so I have my own quilt next year!

Jodi picked Christmas Bells for the pattern which went along with this perfectly!  I love the paisley loops and holly all mixed in.  Great pattern!

Another one of Jodi's quilt is Water Lily she used the pattern by the same name from Sherri McConnell's book

She chose Asian Vines for the pattern.  I hadn't used this pattern before, so I'm always a little nervous - but I LOVED how it turned out.  It fit the pattern/fabric/design perfectly.

Her backing was white and showcased the quilting so well.  It turned out great!

This last quilt was I think the first quilt Jodi sent my way.  It was love at first sight for me with this quilt!  I love the pinwheels, the red, green, grey, and white fabrics.  Everything about this quilt was perfect.  She almost didn't get it back!

It looks like I took these pictures at night!  They are so dark and hard to see the quilting.  Run over here to see a better picture.

She chose 30's Flower and used this Bonnie and Camille grey floral fabric on backing!  It pulled all the fabrics together perfectly!

I loved this quilt so much -  a few weeks after I gave it up to Jodi I got a package from her with a table running using some left over blocks!  I was so excited.  I now have a piece of this quilt all the time!

Josephine Patchwork Quilt

My sister Whitney needed a quilt to give as a gift.  I love most anything French General related by Moda - so this was the perfect time to order up some Josephine!  I love the deep red and browns in this line.  Reminds me of their Maison de Garance line they had a few years back.

So I started cutting up a layer cake to make the Double Slice quilt from the Missouri Quilt Star tutorial.

I had just made this quilt 3 times - I didn't need to pull up the tutorial - I have it memorized....do you see a problem here?  I cut my layer cake right in half and sewed 2 5 inch stripes together before even realizing that wasn't right.  The sad thing is....I cut 2 quilts at the same time - so I did it wrong twice! I was SO MAD!  But my sister is easy and loves a good patchwork - so I made 4 patches instead and went ahead.

I think it turned well in the end.  I chose the Drop of Paisley pattern for quilting.  she wanted a minky back - so I wanted something bold that would stand out!  This was the ticket.

Got it sewn, quilted, and bound in a day or two - pretty good for having a Christmas rush - and now I want my own quilt out of this line!  LOVE IT!  But more importantly - giving a quilt is one of the best gifts out there!  And my sisters friend loved it!  Said one of the best gifts they have ever gotten.  Makes it all worth it.

Jake's Baby Quilt

So I started this quilt when I was pregnant with Jake.  Brown and blue was all the rage and this was going to be his baby quilt.

I used all the brown and blue plaids from the Chocolate line by 3 Sisters for Moda.  They had the BEST wovens in this line!  The border was their brushed cotton and so soft!  I used the Yellow Brick Road pattern by Atkinson Designs because - well that was my go to pattern back then and is still a great one!

So the quilt had been sewn and sitting in the closet for years - 5 of them to be exact.  When I first got my new machine I decided I needed to venture out from edge to edge and try some borders - so I used this one as my practice quilt.  I liked all the swirl results!

Used Denali for the center and Romance Feather in the border.

I used the Mode Home blue/brown polka dot for the backing.

Glad to have this quilt done and off my to do list.  Finally got it bound on our very long road trip to Tahoe over Thanksgiving.

This never made it to Jake to be his baby quilt - but its the thought - right?

Christmas Table Toppers

I'm obsessed with this topper - I have 2 others done - and am working on my 4th one as of tonight.  I had a client send me one to quilt and fell in love!  Now I want to make them with every spare charm pack or mini I own!

I used a charm back of Joy by Kate Spain for Moda for this one.  Out of 1 charm pack - you cut squares down to 2 1/2 and you can get a full topper and the middle of another one.  I used an Avalon (Fig Tree) charm pack and did one just like the Christmas one - and than did one with the middle patchworked with a border around it instead of the squares.   ANYWAYS - love this and you'll be seeing a lot more of these!

I quilted it using the Glacee  pattern and love how it turned out!

Isn't it cute all set up for Christmas (was cute)!

The next one is this simple square table topper out of Sentiments by 3 Sisters.  The more I see out of this line the more I'm drawn to it.

I used Christmas Paisley for this one.  Love how it looks on the plain red backing.

I love table toppers - great to have around the house when you need a little color and perfect for those quick gifts you decide you need last minute.

I'm not very good at using all my scraps when they just sit around - so after I'm done with a quilt - if the leftover fabrics are just scrappy - I try to cut up to make a runner or topper.  Gets a quick project out of the way and makes me feel like I'm using all my fabric!

Whit's Fall Star Quilt

I have a few quilts I want to get added to my 2013 completed side bar - so I've got a few posts in the next few days for my own "record" purposes!

I didn't know what to get my sister Whitney for Christmas.  She has been so kind and thoughtful this month trying to help me, cleaning my house, leaving me little surprises.  All in the name of trying to bring my some Christmas cheer.

I wanted to get her something fun - but wasn't feeling anything.  She had asked for a fall quilt in October - that sadly didn't get to her in time for fall.  So on the 24th - I quilted this baby up and got her bound for Christmas morning.

I used this tutorial yet again (I LOVE how quick and easy this pattern is!)
Whit loves loops - so I went with that -  and a flannel striped back.  Perfect for snuggling up with!  Hope you enjoy Whit!

Dear Mr Claus Quilt #2

I am SO behind in posting client quilts.  That is my goal for these last few weeks - to show you all the beautiful quilts I have been working on.

My excuse for not posting is because I've been swimming in quilts to be quilted!  I can't believe how many of these quilts I want to make!  Problems of a longarmer - I need to search for fabric and add quilts to my to do list!  I even asked one of my clients how much she'd sell me a quilt...I mean really this is becoming a problem.

But I have been editing the pictures I take - and am throwing together some posts as I have SO many fun quilts to share with you all.

This quilt I'm sharing today has been in the works for awhile.  Ever since I made this quilt for Marta last year my sister Whitney has wanted one of her own.  I gave her a layer cake for her birthday - in FEBRUARY.  Telling her the quilt would be ready by Christmas.

I made it just in time!  Who knew a quilt would take 10 months to make!  I didn't love this fabric at first, but it has grown on me, and I really love this quilt.  I used the Double Slice tutorial from Missouri Quilt Star.  I would say this has been the pattern of the year for me.  Uses just 1 layer cake, is scrappy looking, quick and easy to throw together.  Perfect go to quilt pattern if you need a quick gift.  (Or a gift that takes 10 months to make)

I quilted this using the Glacee pattern.  Probably my most favorite Christmas pattern I have.

I love it even more on minky - I think I need just a quilt of this!

Glad to have one more quilt checked off the to do list!

Five and Dime Quilt - Maison de Noel - FOR SALE

The Masion de Noel line by 3 Sisters is about 6 or so years old.  Hands down one of my most favorite lines of fabric EVER.  I mean EVER.  I have made several quilts from this line - and I still have a bin fun.  See a few of my favorites here.

This pattern is called Five and Dime by All Washed Up.  I love this pattern and have made it a few times see here and here.  I think it is a great way to show case large pieces of fabric.  Which is why I started quilting in the first place - I love the fabric!
It was a gloomy day and very little light - these pictures do not do this quilt justice!  To be honest - I have no idea when I sewed this quilt.  Probably 5 years ago - its been hanging in my closet to be quilted for a long while!

I finally pulled it out to try Denali on it about a year ago.  I love this quilt pattern so much.

For the backing I used the red paisley - one of my favorites - and bound it with a red/green plaid on the bias fabric.  That binding fabric is my most favorite binding I think I've EVER used!  I finally got it bound last week when we drove back and forth to Lake Tahoe.  A nice 8 hour drive each way - left me with a few completed projects!

Here it is on display - and then I decided - I have a few Christmas quilts - so maybe I'll trying sharing the love I have of these fabrics with others.

So I listed it in my shop.  If you're interested go here.

Star Kissed Quilt for Sale

Remember this quilt?

It's one of my all time favorite Christmas quilts I've ever made.  I used Kate Spain's 12 Days of Christmas and quilted fun snowflake design.  I.LOVE.THIS.QUILT.

As I got thinking of what Christmas quilts I should display this year - I have 2 new ones I've made over the last 12 months and have a few from the past that are still favorites.  So I decided to let this one go.  I thought if I'm not going to display it, it needs to be in a home and loved!

If you're interested - head on over here to look.  It would make a great gift too!

Hope you're enjoying this holiday week and getting ready for Thanksgiving and Holiday decorating!

October Review

I can't believe October has already come and gone!  It feels like just yesterday I was putting up all my Halloween decorations!  Now I'm going to have to take them all down!

Last year I started collecting these cute Halloween houses from Department 56.  I got a little obsessed and even had to take a few back because I didn't have room for them all!  I can't believe I already have to take them down!

I finally got my Halloween quilt out and hung.
This is one of my favorites - pattern is Wild Things by Thimble Blossoms.  I think the fabric used was called Monsters or Little Monsters or something like that from Sandy Gervais.

I've also been busy quilting a few quilts!

This fun Ghastly one was done with the all over Spider Web pattern.  I love this pattern - it adds so much texture to the quilt without over powering the fabric.

Love how fun the back looked too!

This next little quilt was fun to do - you can't totally tell from the picture, but I used the Spider web pattern smaller in the borders - stitched 1/4 inch in on the sashing and did the spiderweb pattern bigger in each block.

I thought the backing looked cool too!  This was a cute fun quilt to work on!

This quilt and pattern I have done a few times this month!  I have the cutest group of girls who get together and sew each Wednesday.  They decided they wanted to make this quilt for Halloween.  It was so much fun to see how different these turned out - and I've loved getting to know these girls!
I want to be in their quilt group!

Lisa chose Skulls for her quilt

She always brings me backs with fun minky (or all mink) and the skulls looked so cool on the minky!

This next quilt I did a few months ago - what a fun way to use a jelly roll!  I loved how bright and festive it is!

Kathy chose Candy Corns for this quilt and I think it fit it perfectly!

The back was covered in Candy Corns so kind of fitting

This quilt I have seen at my local quilt store and a cute new client Dana from California shipped it my way!

I love the black between the rows and the cute little monsters.  Perfect for the Sweetwater Halloween line!

Dana chose the Trick O Treat pattern which is so cute quilted up!

A little stippling around the monsters.

And a great polka dot on the back - this dot should be in everyone's stash!

This next quilt was Chantel's from the Wednesday quilt group.  She chose Spider Web for her pattern.

I love how just changing up the pattern took on a whole different look to this quilt from Lisa with the Skulls.

Chantel had a minky backing and looked so cool with the web.

Megan is a new client - and daughter to Dana.  She made this cute quilt up using the same Boo line from Sweetwater as her mom's monster quilt.

She used Candy Corns for her design and black thread - love how it turned out!

The backing fabric was so cute too with the little monsters.  I love this line!

Interrupting the quilts to share a cute/scary pic of my kids at the Cornbelly festival.  We had a great day hanging in the warm sun - playing on slides and big huge trampolines.  I love a good fall festival!

Last but not least is the last quilt from Brenda - again the same quilt pattern and she chose Spider Webs also - but she changed up her backing a little.

Although I love all quilts - I'm a sucker for minky, a sucker for chevrons, and Halloween - and didn't want to give this one back!  The lime green minky backing was to die for!!!!

I had such a fun, busy month - and am a little sad to see it go!
