In Febbraio. Back in February

Lo scorso Febbraio, con l'ondata di freddo aveva nevicato anche da noi. L'orto di Fofò era completamente bianco e si riusciva a stento a intravedere qualche cipolla, insalata o il povero (ma gustoso!)sedano...
Back in February temperatures have gone below zero and we had a lot of snow, something very unusual...The garden was completely white and we could hardly notice some onions, salads and the poor (but delicious!) celery...

L'aglio cresce nell'orto...

ma Fofò non resiste alla tentazione di rubare qualche piantina ogni tanto, prima che cresca il bulbo vero e prorio per mangiarla sulla pizza:

aglio, olio extravergina d'oliva e origano (dell'orto ovviamente!).

"Questa è la pizza migliore del mondo!" dice sempre,ricordandoci che così la facevano al paese quando erano piccoli...assaggiandola io sono d'accordo con lui...squisita!

provate, ma ricordate, l'aglio deve essere fresco!

Gralic grows in the garden..

but Fofò sometimes cannot resist the temptation of stealing a plant, a young one, just before the clove grows, to put it on a pizza:garlic, extra virgin olive oil and origan (from the garden, of course). "This is the best pizza in the world!" he always says, remembering when he was a kid at il paese..when I taste it I can only agree with him..delicious!Try if you have the chance, but remember that the garlic must be fresh!

Le verdure continuano a crescere felici: piante di zucchine, pomodori,insalate, peperoni e melanzane. In primo piano i primi pomodori stanno spuntando.
Vegetables are keeping to grow happily: plants of courgettes (zucchini- u.s.), tomatoes, salads, peppers and aubergines (eggplants- u.s.).

Come ogni estate arrivano di passaggio all'orto di Fofò delle belel tartarughe..questa è un'esemplare giovane.
As every summer at Fofò's garden we have turtles coming to visit..
this is a young one.

Questo è il magnifico sedano di Fofò, non è quello bianco del supermercato, questa è la varietà più saporita, indispensabile come base per qualsiasi soffritto per esempio.
This is the magnificent celery of Fofò's garden.It's not the white type you find in supermarket, this has more flavour and is necessary for example when you need to prepare a simple but very good soffrito (the base for every sauce).

La salvia trionfante! Triumphing sage!

ieri pomeriggio,yesterday afternoon.

Le patate crescono in fretta,

Potatoes are growing fast,

La pianta di salvia è piena di fiori,

tha sage is full of flowers,

poi alle mie spalle..

then at my back...

si prepara ad arrivare un bel temporale!

...ovviamente tutto l'orto ne è felice!

aglio e cipolle, garlic and onions.

Purtroppo nella maggior parte dei supermercati si trova solo aglio di orgine cinese, Fofò ne ha fatto una sua battaglia personale e nell'orto non manca mai una fila di aglio, spesso accompagnato da cipolle..così in cucina la scorta non maca mai!

In Italy today in most supermarkets you only find chinese garlic, Fofò has started his own battle and in the garden there is always a lane of garlic, often close to some onions...so in the kitchen we have our own supply!

Nonno Alfonso ha sempre curato l'orto, ora che è in pensione si dedica con ancora più tempo e passione...e noi godiamo dei frutti di tanta fatica!
Grandfather Alfonso has always worked in his garden. Now he is retired he dedicates to it more time and passion ..and we enjoy the products!
