my son sent a text this morning: went free diving with sharks yesterday outside haleiwa {hawaii}
sharks played an important role among the ancient hawaiians, and were considered by some as ‘aumākua, personal or family gods, and sacred guardians and protectors that should be respected and even fed. sharks also played a role in myths and legends, as well as hawaiian history.
the hawaiian word for shark is manō , kyle said there were eleven manō in the water, sand sharks, nurse sharks, and one tiger had been spotted earlier. but no one went in the water then. i'm so glad my son is having epic experiences and that mostly, he waits to tell me about them afterwards. ;)

lil pip
hello dear friends! i hope you are well, it's almost spring! i have a new job! it's a very big job, but only involves one small thing. it's piper pearl! well, we didn't plan for things to go this way, but life working it's magical mysterious ways, decided i should take a leave from my work and stay home here with my three month old grandbaby for a time. my daughter had to return to her job and mine graciously understood (bless).
so here we are, hum de dum dum, wee pip and i (in baby heaven i am). will be back soon. i hope. (how do you mama's do it all?) :)

south : : north
back again! i hope you are well and enjoying the season! it is truly autumn here, after a (too warm) spell, we've finally settled on perfect shawl wearing weather. i've taken a couple adventures, met lovely friends, saw amazing things, would you like to come along? again, no camera, only iphone photos were taken. maybe it has been all the travel of late, but the need to go light came first....
i am on the pacific surfliner train, heading almost six hours south to san diego
california agriculture
the reason i am in san diego
my girl {and her love} we now live in the same time zone.
we worked all the day, stopping for beach breaks and an occasional meal (YUM!)
her commute has changed some.
these two. they drove me back home. and also, hannah taught matt to knit.
we had my girls baby shower, i made her a sleeping sack and gave her a small book that was her own as a child.
time to pack for the next adventure. going north {my current work in progress still on the needles}.
we shopped {homestead seattle}
we ate delicious meals and drank delicious drinks {photo of my own personal shoulder singer courtesy of gudrun} :)
and froze
celebrating tolt's one year anniversary. on saturday morning there was a line down the street, happy knitters waiting for the shop to open. it was an experience unlike any i've had before. the beauty of place, the warmth, kindness of people, welcoming atmosphere...left me near tears
{it was incredible to meet so many beautiful friends from blogging and instagram}
rachel, an instagram friend and 'tolt' ~tia!

lovely anna dianich, owner and proprietress of tolt and veronika of yoth {yarn on the house} in the middle. it seems that living in washington makes one beautiful sweet and extremely kind.

karen and i with the charming and delightful tif ~ dottie angel
sweet lisa and her bunny (wearing it's own mini hap shawl) she made
and paula works here too! hi paula! ((((hug)))) we were roomies in shetland :)
thank you miss kathy for all the incredible hospitality {puff cloud x 10}
so glad i did not set off your alarm {#sorrynotsorry}
thank you anna
and now no more traveling for a bit, waiting for my new grandbaby
to land on earth, any minute now!!
thank you for coming along, and always for leaving such kind words,

in a nutshell
helloo and oh dear. i hope all is well with you! i've been very neglectful of this space. i'm dreaming of a week at home, no work, or travel...just quietly staying home and catching up on the big and little things. that is unlikely to happen before october (today is already the first day of fall!) a bit of life here lately then, in a nutshell (all photos taken with iphone)...
knitting for babies! i found this pattern for a soaker in a vintage book. i love making them!
'go to work with your husband day' every chance i get! the weather is perfect this time of year! we are at channel islands national park.
my best friend and i went to the california central coast yarn crawl. it was a two day event so we stayed in a hotel saturday night. her sweet husband packed us a picnic dinner.
the next day i flew to nyc with a friend
we met my girl at grand central station
jumped on a train to connecticut...
rented a car in new haven and drove north to...
portland maine! met friends carrie bostick hoge, maryjane mucklestone, gudrun johnston. carrie, gudrun and i also had our girls, immie and maya and hannah (taking the photo, darn!)
there was a photo shoot on the maine coast
foxy was left in good hands, and we headed back south to nyc...
for her wedding dress. (this is not it if you are reading matt.) :) there was just enough time to see 'the dress' (tears. oh my.) before i had to catch a cab back to jfk.
back at home, souvenirs from maine. carrie's book is gold. taproot is too. found seaglass on a maine beach. the daisy a gift from my future son in law. :)
oh. my. gosh. this basket, filled to the brim.
