Anything but a Square

This week over at Through the Purple Haze the challenge is Anything But a Square.

I seem to be in a phase of making square cards at the moment so it was nice to be made to do something different. We had two lovely sponsors - Hannah Lynn and Crafty Sentiment Designs and I had great fun playing with the images.

Firstly here's what I created with Expressions Study 4 from Hannah Lynn

I designed the card base in Inkscape and cut it out on my Cougar from Thyme Graphics.
I embossed them with silver WOW embossing powder and then added Crystal Stickles glitter glue. They really sparkle, but it's nearly impossible to capture on camera.

The Sentiment is from the Silhouette store. I used it as a print and cut
and embossed the edges with Wow Silver Embossing powder.

Expressions Study 4 was a dream to colour. I tried to put the techniques I'm learning in the Kit and Clowder Skin and Hair class into practice. I've got a way to go, but I'm pleased with how she turned out.

I coloured her using my Promarkers:

Skin - Copic E00, Blush, Sunkissed Pink, Coral, Burnt Orange with Pastel Pink Cheeks
Hair - Buttercup, Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold, Raw Sienna
Eyes - Sky Blue, True Blue, Royal Blue

My second creation used Primrose Babysitting from Crafty Sentiment Designs

I used my Cougar to cut a scalloped circle base and had someone special in mind when I made this.

I coloured her with my Promarkers

Skin - Copic E00, Blush, Sunkissed Pink, Coral, Burnt Orange
Hair - Cinnamon, Henna, Cocoa, Chestnut
Dress, Bows, Shoes - Orchid, Purple, Aubergine

Cot - Tan, Cinnamon, Cocoa
Bedding - Yellow, Sunfllower, Gold
Blanket - Lilac, Amethyst, Purple, Buttercup, Tulip Yellow

I had great fun making these shaped cards. I hope you like them, and I'd love to see your creations over at Through the Purple Haze Challenges x

Anything Goes at Through the Purple Haze Challenges

It's the first challenge of 2014 and it's a nice easy theme - Anything Goes! Our sponsor is Crafty Sentiments Designs and I had the lovely Eve to play with. I decided to make a nice bright birthday card to combat the grey rainy skies we've had with the recent storms.

I tried a new technique to make the background for this card - I wiped my Festive Berries Distress Ink Pad over the top side of a Papermania Happy Birthday Embossing Folder and then embossed white cardstock. It didn't give a complete coverage so I must masking tape on the back of the card to hold it exactly in place and repeated the inking 4 or 5 times until I had a coverage I was happy with. I love that it gives a slightly distressed look and lets the embossed words stand out clearly.

The sentiment is a digi from the Heard from the Heart set from Stampin' Up. I printed it on card and cut it to the width of the card, then mounted a shimmery ribbon over the top so the sentiment looks as though it's on a ribbon.

I cut Eve out on my Cougar cutting machine and coloured her with my Promarkers:

Skin - Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush with Pastel Pink Cheeks
Hair - Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold, Raw Sienna
Top - True Blue, Royal Blue, Indigo Blue
Shorts - Denim Blue, Storm Blue*, Midnight Blue

I hope you like my card. I'd love to hear what you think, and would love to see your entry at Through the Purple Haze Challenges

Thank you to our sponsor Crafty Sentiments Designs

'Here come the Girls' - Through the Purple Haze Challenges

This week's challenge at Through the Purple Haze Challenges  is 'Here Come the Girls' and our sponsor is the lovely Crafty Sentiment Designs.

I was lucky enough to have 'Amy Looking Out' who is a lovely cute little girl. I decided to do something different and use a Digikit in CraftArtist 2 and make the layout digitally. I used the Daydream Digi Kit that comes with CraftArtist 2. I love all aspect of crafting and really love making things in real life, but it was fun to do something different and try a mainly digital version. I'm pleased with the results - once you apply shadows and bevels etc the digital elements really seem to come to life and look 3D.

I saw the sentiment as a freebie on Ginger's House and  thought it was perfect for the girly theme. (It made me think of one friend in particular :D ) I imported it into CraftArtist 2 and changed the colour of the sentiment, added a 'sticker' outline, an internal bevel and a drop shadow to give this effect.

I coloured Amy Looking Out  with my Promarkers (what else!)

 I used:
Skin - Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush & Pastel Pink Cheeks
Hair - Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold & Raw Sienna
Top - Cerise, Shocking Pink*, Maroon
                - Pink Carnation, Blender & Glitter Glue
Jeans - Cobalt Blue, Denim Blue, Midnight Blue
Shoes - Silver Gel Pen, Pink Carnation

I added glitter glue to her top, her hair ribbons and the butterflies and her cheeks to give it a bit of extra girly sparkle.

Can you see how 3D that ribbon looks? You'd never believe it was a printed flat piece of card would you?

I hope you like my girly girl. Please leave me some love, then pop over to Through the Purple Haze and join in for a chance to win from
