Spring is here!

It's been a long time since I've been on my log cabin blog. Time to visit my blogger friends!

Everything is nice and green in northern Michigan.  We are reaching the tail end of the bird migration. I am so happy to have some of my feathered visitors back - especially the Rose Breasted Grosbeak pictured below.  Though I do have to say that these birds are one of the biggest pigs at the feeder.  I swear one of them has been sitting on my feeder for the past 5 hours munching away!

How are things in your neck of the woods?

Meet my friend the Blue Heron

Heading to the cabin tomorrow. Hoping I have exciting stories to tell you. Just know it will probably involve birds, a lake, cabin, glass of wine and an adirondack chair! What are you up to this weekend? (By the way, do you think I'm the laziest blogger ever? I'm hoping not....)

Friends I've made at the Log Cabin

I've made several friends at our log cabin. Being in a wooded setting, all sorts of great creatures come your way. My noisiest friends are by far the Chickadees and the Nuthatches who clearly like to inform me when to fill my bird feeder. The black and gray squirrel need some manners about the bird feeders but they do make up for it with all their chases and amusing antics. My turtle is a little shy but does make an appearance here and there. The Bald Eagles that fly over the lake are great teachers of beauty and freedom. The Loons treat me to the most beautiful, haunting music on the lake. The chipmunk has shown me how the dead tree in our yard is actually the "tree of life" for him and the birds. For that, I will never cut it down. I'm looking forward to the many more friends I will make and the lessons they will teach me...

Log Cabin Guests & Birds

This weekend we had our first official guests to the log cabin. (I have the guest room pictured here.) I am happy to report they found the room very enjoyable and comfortable. The guestroom is now known as the bird room. I incorporated a bird cage and an antique clock (with a bird on it of course!) and a framed Cornell bird print. We had a great time going to Hartwick Pines State Park, hitting the Stampede Saloon for wings and beer and of course viewing all the birds from our deck this weekend. It was a bird bonanza! Juvenile Eagles, Blue Heron, Loons, Cormorants, Bufflehead, Rose-breasted grosbeak, goldfinches, red winged blackbirds and Canadian geese just to name a few. I was alternating between camera and binoculars all day! I will be posting these pictures this week on my birding blog - www.birdinginmichigan.blogspot.com .
P.S. Today is the last day to vote for our log cabin name and entering the contest for a free subscription to the Country's Best Log Homes! Be sure to leave a link back to your blog.
