My stitching is staring at me!

I've been enjoying my break from university for five weeks - I've been free for two now. I'm also feeling a lot less sick now that I've got a new doctor and new treatment which is helping a lot and giving me more energy. With all that free time and energy, what do you do? I stitched! :) So here's Dark Cherry with 80x155 stitches complete, about 38% complete.

22nd June 09

Sorry for the blurry photo - my camera didn't seem to want to cooperate! She's stitched 1x1 in DMC and Petite Treasure Braid for the sparkles, on 32ct white jobelan. I love her eyes, they're softer in the stitching than in the picture, or the web version anyway. I love stitching Ching-Chou's pieces, they have such lovely colours and faces. The flowers are lovely too even if they are horibbly confetti-ish, that bottom one on the left is quite sparkly IRL!

I'll probably try to keep up with the Thursday SAL, but I won't be posting row finishes as often since I've swapped focus pieces for a little while, but she'll be back on the frame soon enough. I have to swap focus pieces or I burn out, especially since I'm addicted to BAPs and have been since I started stitching again as an older teen/adult. If you want to know what I'm stitching right now, keep an eye on my blog here (not my blogger account)

Thanks for looking! :)

More cherry

I didn't get as much done last week as I'd have liked to, I'm getting a bit bogged down with final assignments and exams, ick the joys of college. But I did get a bit done and a photo, so here you go:
1st June 09
She's 1x1 on 32ct jobelan in DMC, I use PTB for the sparkles since I hate kreinik with a passion! I'm hoping to "catch up" a bit in the six weeks I have off between semesters so that I'm more up to date with the pages as we get them, even though I do love stitching across the two pages.

Loving seeing everyone's updates, even if I don't have time to comment.

Thanks for looking :)

Dark Cherry again

I finally got a photo! My Dad's lost the charger for our camera, so I got my boyfriend to take a photo last Thursday, but I didn't get to post it until today. This is Cherry before the QS SAL this weekend, almost 25% done (she's actually 25% done now, I'll get a photo again sometime soon...)

So, here's a bunch more done!

21st May 09

Stitched 1x1 on 32ct jobelan, with DMC and PTB for the sparklies. In real life the colours are so vivid, she's beautiful!

Thanks for looking :)

Dark Cherry update

I've been rather busy with Uni stuff, and not got a lot done, but I'm currently home sick with a cold turned feverish so I got a bit done on Cherry the other night and took a photo :) It's a bit out of date, when I've got a chunk more done I'll take another photo. I'm trying to get the piece roughly even along the bottom at the moment - I don't do the page at a time thing very well with these small pieces. (Ok, with ANY piece, but I try to stick to a page at a time more on the big ones. It's just too easy to do it this way with the small ones)

So, I'm rambling, here have a photo! (I need to calculate a rough stitch count again)

ATT: EVERYONE

When I open this page, it tells me I've chosen to run "run app" from "www.google.com". I have a mac, so it asks me before I do anything with it.

I wouldn't run the app if it give you the option, and if you read this via feed please check your virus scanner before you come on the site to make sure it's up to date.

Probably just someone's idea of a horrible April Fools' Day prank, but be careful.

An Intro and a progress photo

Hi all, I joined weeks back but without a camera I didn't want to do my intro post with nothing pretty to add!

I'm Kyri, short for Kyrie-Eleison or Kyriaki depending on who you are (Kyriaki is my Greek Orthodox name and I use it a lot). I'm sooooo close to being 21 (April 12!) and the youngest HAED BB member I've come across, and apparently really young for the stitchy community in general. I live in Australia, down south near Adelaide. My Mum taught me to stitch when I was 4 or so, in an attempt to keep me busy and shut me up - it only worked for a short time before I figured out how to stitch and talk at the same time! I live at home with my folks and younger sister, who cope pretty well with the embroidery paraphenalia all through the house. My boyfriend is a jeweler and designer, and appreciates fine detail work and use of colour so he "gets stitching" even though he doesn't do it himself. Rhodium plating needles on the other hand...hehehe.

I rediscovered my love of embroidery in 2005 after being burned out by kits, and discovered HAEDs a few months later, and never looked back. My WIP list is a little horrific, which I'm attempting to fix, but I'm only working regularly on Dark Cherry for the SAL (and outside SAL weekends too) and Dance of the Graces (Fenech) for the SWIP SALs. I have a varied collection of artists in my charts, but some of my favourites are Sara Butcher, Selina Fenech, and Ching Chou Kuik. I actually MANAGED a finish for these charts last year in QS A Restful night:

A Restful Night

My usual stitching approach is a weird take on parking, which works for me. I stitch 1x1 full cross on 32ct jobelan, and use Petite Treasure Braid in half stitch rather than the Kreinik which I don't like and find too bulky anyway. I use DMC, but I'd love to do a project in silks one day!

Here are a few WIP photos for you:

Dance of the Graces (Fenech)

QS Periwinkle Fae (Tate)
2nd May
- I haven't worked on her in forever which is a shame, I really like her. This is a silkweaver hand-dyed, but I forget what the name is.

SK Iris Keeper (Wall)
Row 1 - 26th November 08
Stitched on 32ct cream linen for a change.

I only really work on Cherry and occasionally DotG from this list, because I'm trying to work on just a few things and get finishes rather than worked across my whole WIP/UFO list and not making much visible progress. Hopefully I'll get into working on these last two at some point soon.

As for stitching for our SAL, here's my latest picture of Dark Cherry:

28th March 09
I usually work across the width of a piece if it's a QS, so the minute I got the second page I started it rather than finishing pg 1. I'm loving how it's all coming together!

I love looking at all the photos and watching progress, and this way we can all inspire one another.

Finally, I blog too - here, at Lighting Candles to Pray for Light. It's a bit of a hodgepodge blog with just about everything from my life in it, plus a nice dose of stitching whenever I have the camera available :)
