I often think to myself, "what would I do without my knitting to occupy my hands?" It goes with me just about everywhere and I don't see anyone else with knitting. .. but rather some sort of device. I've taught all my kids to knit and only a couple truly enjoy it and choose to continue- so I completely understand that it's not for everyone. However, so many folks tell me they "can't knit" when they truly want to- and I remember how I used to say the same thing nearly 20 years ago and it took me 3 years of trying off and on, to finally realize that I could. If you teach yourself as I did it can be a challenge. I do feel it's an art that needs in-person teaching, and 20 years ago it hadn't yet become popular and you could find videos, groups, and help everywhere- so I didn't know anyone who could teach me in person, at least for a few years.
Which leads me to yet again marvel at the passage of time and how a time that I feel only happened a few years ago was actually decades ago.

Around here~
A tree goes in the house, we still wait for snow to make it winter.

Nature journaling, still a favorite pastime
A violet blooming just before Thanksgiving. I was told by a certain little 8 year old that it is because the fairies forgot to help it to bloom in May, so they quickly gave the violet her chance now.
I like that explanation a whole lot.
Just some random thoughts on the cusp of December.
Love,

I am a knitter myself, learned knitting aged 6 at primary school. No tree overhere, we wait until after Saint Nicolas at December 5th, but I could with a little fairy lights these grey days. And I love your kid's explenation for that violet blooming.
ReplyDeleteI don't much like knitting and I suppose one reason is it is hot where I live. I do have a book with me wherever I go :)
ReplyDeleteHello! Not sure if you read or answer comments but...what book is your child using with the half colored in butterflies? I know I've seen this somewhere in my researching Waldorf curriculum but I can't remember where. Help? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi Robin, I'm so sorry I missed all your comments from earlier this summer. . I have not been paying attention to this space as much as I wanted to. I hope to remedy that! The butterfly book is the activity book to go along with "Nature Anatomy" by Julia Rothman.
DeleteThank you so much for responding to all my comments. Have a wonderful autumn!
ReplyDeleteHello Melanie. Would you ever consider showing the different curriculum things you've used with your kids over the years? I'd love to learn how you handle math, science, language arts and history. We are feeling like we need a change but I'm at a loss at where to turn.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Robin
Hi Robin, I will put some thought into that! :)
