T.P. POLY-RYTHMO & Avolonto Honoré

Some artists have marked music like like Honoré Avolonto and his particular way of singing, especially on afrobeat. "E So Plait Mi A" is, for me, one of the best songs of Avolonto. Edited first as EP on Albarika Store label.

Honoré Avolonto started his career as a percussionist. The young Tumba player went onto become one of Benin most prolific composer. He composed Benin's most succesfull LP in 1979 (SAT 173). This album was recorded with The Black Santiago but he also composed and sang for Poly-Rythmo and Los Commandos.

Certains artistes ont marqué la musique comme Honoré Avolonto et sa façon unique de chanter, en particulier sur de l'afro-beat. "E So Plait Mi A" est, pour moi, un des meilleurs morceaux d'Avolonto. Sortie d'abord en 45 tours sur Albarika Store.

Honoré Avolonto a commencé sa carrière comme percussionniste. "Tumbiste" qui deviendra un des compositeurs béninois les plus prolifiques. Il a écrit un des albums les plus vendu au Bénin en 1979. Cet album a été enregistré avec l'orchestre Black Santiago, mais Avolonto a aussi travaillé avec l'orchestre Poly-Rythmo ainsi que Los Commandos.

And one more LP for Poly-Rythmo, released in 1978 on the essential Albarika Store label. This song "Mede Magnin Messe" is composed and sung by Melomey Clement.

Daga H. Georges & l'orchestre Poly-Rythmo (1973)

Daga H. Georges, also called Doctor Senan, has composed and sang backed by Poly-Rythmo and also Black Santiago. This record has been released by "Disque Sachey" label in 1973.

It's always a pleasure to listen to Eskill Lohento's voice backed by Poly-Rythmo. The two sides of this Extented Play record have been composed by Thomas Kouchina, famous unknown artist.

H.C. Clementophe with SUPER BORGOU & POLY-RYTHMO (1975)

Very interesting vinyl composed and sung by a totally unknown artist of Benin (as usual): H.C. Clementophe. Side 1, with wonderful tune "Alougba Hué", is backed by Super Borgou orchestra and Side 2 is backed by Poly-Rythmo. Have good time. I bought it this morning in Paris, during a record convention.

Vinyle très intéressant composé et chanté H.C. Clementophe, artiste béninois totalement inconnu, comme d'habitude. J'ai trouvé ce disque ce matin dans une convention du disque à Levallois-Perret. La face 1 est enregistrée avec l'orchestre Super Borgou sur un morceau génial: "Alougba Hué". La face 2 a été enregistrée avec l'orchestre Poly-Rythmo. Bonne écoute.

It is rare and it is good. Here is the Number 7 on label Badmos by Poly-Rythmo. This record is not easy to find so i will let you apreciate. I remind those who possess other records of this series to share them with happiness.

T.P. orchestre POLY-RYTHMO & Yehouessi Leopold (1978)

I think its is time to repost this fantastic LP of Poly-Rythmo. This opus was composed by drummer Leopold Yehouessi who had a huge influence on the band. He participated in the creation of the orchestra in 1965, then called Sunny Black's Band, and his death in 1982, as well as guitarist "Papillon" marks a halt to powerful Poly-Rythmo.

Je pense que c'est le temps de reposter ce sublime album du Poly-Rythmo. Cet opus a été Composé par le batteur, Léopold Yehouessi, qui avait une grande influence sur le groupe. Il a participé à la création de l'orchestre en 1965, alors appelé Sunny Black's Band, et sa mort en 1982 ainsi que celle du guitariste "Papillon" marque un coup d'arrêt au puissant Poly-Rythmo.

T.P. POLY-RYTHMO: Hommages aux martyrs du 16 Janvier 1977

First of all, thank you to Ogoun Ferraille for sharing this recording which is a tribute to the soldiers killed in the 1977's attempted coup. For those who do not know this incredible story, here is a summary:

In January 1977, an attempted coup, called Operation Shrimp,  led by the mercenary Bob Denard and supported by France, Gabon and Marocco failed and it helped to harden the regime, which was officially moving toward the way of a government political party The constitution was adopted on August 26 of that year, Article 4 stating:

"People's Republic of Benin, the road to development is socialism. Its philosophical basis is Marxism-Leninism to be applied in a lively and creative manner to the realities of Benin. All activities of national social life in the People's Republic of Benin are organized in this way under the leadership of the revolution of Benin, detachment vanguard of exploited and oppressed masses, leading core of the Beninese people as a whole and its revolution".

Tout d'abord merci à Ogoun Ferraille de nous faire partager ce nouvel opus du Poly-Rythmo. Ce disque rend hommage aux soldats tués lors du coup d'état raté de 1977. Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas cette histoire assez incroyable, voici un résumé:

En janvier 1977, une tentative de coup d'État, dite Opération crevette, menée par le mercenaire Bob Denard et appuyée par la France , le Gabon et le Maroc, échoue et contribue à durcir le régime, qui s'oriente désormais officiellement vers la voie du gouvernement à parti unique; La constitution est adoptée le 26 Aout de la même année, son article 4 précisant:

" En République populaire du Bénin, la voie de développement est le socialisme. Son fondement philosophique est le marxisme-léninisme qui doit être appliqué de manière vivante et créative aux réalités béninoises. Toutes les activités de la vie sociale nationale en République populaire du Bénin s'organisent dans cette voie sous la direction du Parti de la révolution populaire du Bénin, détachement d'avant-garde des masses exploitées et opprimées, noyau dirigeant du peuple béninois tout entier et de sa révolution. Une loi fondamentale institue une assemblée nationale toute-puissante".

I think the title "Mi Ni Non Kpo" will delight djerk rhythm lovers (rhythm imported from the french rock scene) and sakpata rhythm too (inspired by voodoo Sakpata, the god of earth).
Title "Mireill" is a sublime bolero rhythm transported by Lohento Eskill's voice who also composed both titles. Etablissement Disco des Lyriques ' label is totally osbcure and I could not tell when this record was released.

Je pense que le titre "Mi Ni Non Kpo" va ravir le amateurs de rythme jerk, importé de la scène rock française, et de rythme sakpata, inspiré vaudou Sakpata, dieu de la terre.
Le titre "Mireille" est un sublime boléro transporté tout en beauté par la voix de Lohento Eskill qui a composé les deux morceaux. Le label Etablissement Disco des Lyriques est totalement obscure et je ne pourrais vous dire quand ce disque a été enregistré.
