Pakkaspäivä Helsingissä / Freezing in Helsinki

 

Taas oli pakkasta, kun Hesaan oli mentävä. Oli jotain -15 C, mutta pureva tuuli sai ilman tuntumaan kylmemmältä. Ei siellä oikein viitsinyt turhaan kävellä.

It was freezing again when we had to go to Helsinki. It was something like -15 C, but the biting wind made the air feel colder. I didn't really want to walk around there for nothing.

Pyöräbaanalla ei näkynyt polkupyöriä, ainoat pyöräilijät oli Wolt-kuskit.

There were no bicycles on the bike tube, the only cyclists were Wolt drivers.

Bembölen Kahvitupa

 

Lähellä on mainio, vanha Kahvitupa. Siellä poikkesin, kun pitää autoa ajatuttaa pakkasella.

Meillä on huippupakkaset,  -18... -22 C. Ja merituuli saa pakkasen tuntumaan vielä kylmemmältä. 

There is an excellent, old Lunch place nearby. 

That's where I went when I have to start the car in freezing weather and drive a while.

We have extremely cold temperatures, -18...-22 C.

And when the sea breeze blows, it makes the air feel much more colder.

Lunta ja pakkasta / Snow and freezing

 

Joulunpyhinä ei tehty töitä.

No work was done during Christmas holidays.

On tullut lunta ja on pakkasta, tänään -17 °C.

It has snowed and it is freezing, today -17 °C.

Aurinkoa ja pakkasta / Sun and frost

Oli upea aurinkoinen pakkaspäivä (-17 C). Ei ollut kylmä, kun oli tarpeeksi päällä ja etenkään kun ei tuullut yhtään. Aurinko on merkillinen juttu, se saa maailman näyttämään paremmalta. Pakkasta on ollut nyt muutaman päivän ja jää kantaa, ainakin siellä oli useita kävelijöitä. (Kuulemma olisi jo 16 cm paksu tuo jää. Me ei menty vielä sinne, oli lapsia mukana, ja olisi ollut huonoa esimerkkiä.)

It was a wonderful sunny frosty day (-17 C). It wasn’t cold when we had enough clothes on and especially when there was no wind at all. The sun is a significant thing, it makes the world look better  It's been a few hard frosty days and sea ice is probably already bearing, at least there were several walkers. (I heard it was already 16 cm thick, but we haven't gone there yet)

Kuvaaja ja kuvauskohde / A photographer and the subject

Heitimme ilmaan tulikuumaa vettä (vesi oli mukana termareissa) ja tarkoitus oli nähdä veden muuttuvan höyryksi samalla kun pisarat lentävät kauniissa kaaressa. Meiltä loppui vesi ennenkuin kunnolla tajusimme, kuinka pitää heittää. Itse en saanut tämän parempaa kuvaa, poikani sai pari hyvää videota.

We threw fiery hot water into the air (we carried water with thermal jugs) and the intention was to see the water turn into steam at the same time as the drops flew in beautiful arc.

The water ran out before we succeeded good. This is my best photo.

Pakkasella / In the frost

Auto (tai siis akku) hyytyi kauppareissulla. Ei muuta kuin kyselemään, joskos jollakulla olisi kaapelit mukana. Jostain syystä Micra ei ottanut virtaa startatakseen, soitto pojalle, ja hän noukki minut kotiin (Olin liian kevyesti pukeutunut, jotta olisin selvinnyt 15 minuutin kävelymatkasta). Parin tunnin kuluttua sain kyydin kokeilemaan uudestaan ja voila - micra starttas ihan heti avainta käännettäessä. Se oli tyhmänä huilannut... pöhkö auto. Ajelin sitten 50 km, jotta akku latuatutuisi. Pakkasta ei enää ollut ihan tuo alla oleva lukema, mutta myös -16 °C on jo liikaa.

We have hard frost, in the morning it was -20,3 °C. But during the day about  -16 °C. I went to the store (less than 5 minutes to drive) and when I later started to launch the car, it did not start at all. One man tried using the cables to get it start. It did not succeed. But later, I went again to the parking plats and surprise surprise .. my car started right away without cables. A stupid car - it had rested :). After that I was driving about 50 km to get the battery charge properly.

Ei ihan (vielä) sama lukema sisällä ja ulkona. Tämä on aamulla jotain klo 8.00.

Lapanen / Mitten

Nyt jonkun käsi palelee. 

Pakkasta oli tänään päivällä –13 °C, ja nyt illalla on –19 °C. Ihan riittävän kylmää...

Now someone's hand be cold. 

Today it was frost  –13 °C, and now in the evening it is –19 °C. Quite cold.., brrrr

Kyllä sitä siinä niin hymyillään. Taitaa tykätä pakkasista, mutta minä en.
Someone is so smiling, so smiling. I think it likes frost, but I don't.

Olin kokeilemassa, josko auto lähtisi käyntiin (kun minulla ei ole sitä tolppajohtoa). Lähtihän se, vähän aikaa pidin tyhjäkäynnillä ja otin kohmeisin sormin kuvan. Micrassa on muistipaikat kahdelle synttärionnitteluille, ja tänään on tyttäreni synttärit. Mutta kun myöhemmin ajattelin mennä sittenkin ajelemaan ja täyttämään akkua, ei se enää käynnistynytkään.. pöh.
Aamulla aikaisemmin oli –25 °C, mutta ei kai tämä pakkanen ole mitään Lapin yli –35 °C asteisiin.

I was trying, if the car will start in this frost. It started and a little time I kept it idle and I took with the coldest fingers a image. In Micra there are two memory slots for birthday wishes, and today is my daughter's birthday. But later when I thought to go a little driving around and meet the battery, the car would not start any more. I hate frost.
Early in the morning it was  –25 °C, but I guess this cold weather is nothing compared to North-Finland, Lapland, somewhere there is over –35 °C..
