Sataa vääränä päivänä / Raining on the wrong day

 

Viikonloppuna oli Espoo-päivät, tapahtumia oli kymmenittäin eri puolilla Espoota. Meillä oli rannalla musiikkia koko päivän ym. mukavaa. Mutta sattui olemaan sateinen viikonloppu. Ja sehän tiesi sen, ettei ihmisiä ollut liikkeellä. Se oli sääli niitä tapahtumia kohtaan, jotka pidettiin ulkotiloissa (kuten nämä meillä).

The weekend was Espoo Days, there were dozens of events in different parts of Espoo. We had music on the beach all day and other nice things. But it happened to be a rainy weekend. And that meant that there were no people out and about. It was a shame for the events that were outdoors (like these we had).

Konfirmaatio ja vähän armeijasta / Confirmation and a little about the army

 

Niin se aika kuluu. Lauantaina vietettiin Lillin konfirmaatiota. 

Nyt hän on 14 v ja vielä eilen hän oli pieni taapertaja.

That's how time flies. On Saturday, Lilli's confirmation was celebrated.

Now she is 14 years old and just yesterday she was a little toddler.

Lilli oli ristinkantajana. Hän on kovin pitkä ja kaunis nuori tyttö. Kuva on äitinsä ottama.

Lilli was the cross bearer. She is a very tall and beautiful young girl.

Kotona juhlittiin sukulaisten ja ystävien kesken. Oli tosi kuuma päivä, joten varjot oli tarpeen.

We celebrated at home with family and friends. It was a really hot day, so shade were needed.

Samaan aikaan Sveitsissä Mikko on asepalveluksessa. Hän on jo 18 vuotias.

Oli yllätys, että Sveitsissäkin on armeija. Hän sai kansalaisuuden viime vuonna, 

joten ei voinut tulla Suomeen armeijaan. 

Mikolla ja Matilla on nyt kolme kansalaisuutta: Suomi, Saksa ja Sveitsi. 

Parin vuoden kuluttua täytyy pudottaa pois yksi.

At the same time, Mikko is in the military service in Switzerland. He is already 18 years old.

It was a surprise that Switzerland also has an army. He got citizenship last year,

so he couldn't come to Finland to join the army.

Mikko and Mati now have three citizenships: Finnish, German and Swiss. 

In a couple of years, they will have to drop one.

Edit. Muutin "armeijassa" asepalvelukseksi. Ja se kestää 4 kuukautta.

I changed "army" to military service. And it takes 4 months.

Rantajamit / Beach parties

 

Rannalla oli lauantaina musiikkituokio. 4-hengen bändi soitti 60-70 -luvun vanhaa rockia ja rautalankamusaa. 

Vajaa 4 tuntia ihanaa nostalgista musiikkia.

On Saturday there was a music session on the beach. A four-piece band played old rock and guitar songs from the 60s and 70s. A little under four hours of wonderful nostalgic music.

Kotimatka rantaa pitkin. Kello on 22.30 ja on valoisaa ja lämmintä.

The journey home along the beach. You won't believe it's 10:30 PM. There are light evenings in Finland.

Kivenlahden juhannusjuhla / Midsummer celebration

 

Juhannusruusu / Midsummer rose

Nyt on juhannus. Päivä on pisimmällään, kohta päivät lyhenee, mutta onneksi se tapahtuu hitaasti.

We spend Midsummer. The day is at its longest, in the south we have only about 5 hours of night, in the north the sun doesn't set at all. Now the days are about to get shorter, but luckily it's happening slowly.

Kivenlahdessa vietettiin juhannusjuhlaa rannalla. Oli ainoa iso juhla Espoossa (kaupungin järjestämä), joten tänne tuli ihmisiä joka puolelta. Rannalla on ohjelmaa ja musiikkia, mutta siellä en ollut. Joten kuvat on rantaraitilta, kun käveltiin läpi ihmismassojen. Tuli fiilis, että ollaan kuin jossain etelän turistirannalla. Ikinä ei näin paljon ihmisiä ole täällä näkynyt.

A Midsummer celebration was held on the beach in Kivenlahti. It was the only big celebration in Espoo (organized by the city), so people came here from all over. There is a program and music on the beach, but I wasn't there. So the pictures are from the beach path, when we walked through the crowds of people. It felt like we were on a tourist beach somewhere in the south. I've never seen so many people here before.

Päivä oli tosi lämmin ja vielä illalla oli jotain 21 °C.

The day was really warm and in the evening it was still around 21 °C.

Ennen vanhaan suurin osa ihmisistä meni maalle juhannuksena ja kaupunki jäi täysin tyhjäksi. Oli aika metka tunne olla Helsingissä, kun ei näkynyt ristinsieluakaan kaduilla. 

Mutta nykyään enemmän ja enemmän ihmisiä jää kaupunkiin viettämään juhannusta.

In the old days, most people went to the countryside during Midsummer and the city was completely empty. It was quite interesting to be in Helsinki when there was hardly anyone to be seen. 

But nowadays, more and more people are staying in the city to celebrate Midsummer.

Kiinalainen tapahtuma / Chinese event

 

Eilen Hesassa ollessa osuin Kampissa avattavan Kiinalaisen Uudenvuoden juhlinnan valmisteluihin. En jäänyt odottamaan H-hetkeä (olisi ollu vajaa kolme tuntia luppoaikaa). Mutta kojut oli jo valmiina, ja valoja ripusteltiin. Ja sää oli aika kamala.

I was in Helsinki yesterday and saw the preparations for the Chinese New Year celebration. I didn't wait for the big moment (there would have been almost three hours of waiting). But the stalls were already ready, and lights were being hung. And the weather was pretty terrible.

Lippulaivan kirjastossa kuulimme viikonloppuna menneen ajan ihanaa musiikkia "Syöksytorvi"-yhtyeeltä.

In the library of the Lippulaiva, we heard wonderful music from the past in the weekend.

 

The Tall Ships Races 2024

50 erikokoista purjealusta ympäri maailman oli saapunut Helsinkiin. Oli neljä päivää kestävä purjehdustapahtuma "Tall Ships Races". Sunnuntaina ne lähtivät kohti Tallinnaa.

50 sailing ships of different sizes from around the world had arrived in Helsinki. There was a four-day long sailing event "Tall Ships Races". On Sunday, they left for Tallinn.

Olin illalla myöhään paikalla, ja sain vain yhden kuvan iltaaurinkoisesta aluksesta 

ennenkuin aurinko meni piiloon.

I was there late in the evening, and I only got one picture of the ship in the evening sun 

before the sun went down.

Laivaan tutustumiseen oli pitkä jono.

There was a long line to get to know the ship.

Muita isoja laivoja oli hieman kauempana eri satamassa, mutta niitä en nyt käynyt katsomassa,

 kun jäin kuuntelemaan musiikkia.

There were other big ships a little further away in a different port, but I didn't go to see them now, 

because I stayed to listen to music.

Ecuadorilaisen Guayas-aluksen miehistö soitti illalla pari tuntia lattari ym musaa. 

Se oli upeaa kuultavaa, ja moni myös tanssi rytmin mukana.

The crew of the Ecuadorian ship Guayas played Latin music for a couple of hours in the evening.

It was lovely to hear, and many danced to the beat too.
