The Tear Garden - To Be an Angel Blind, the Crippled Soul Divide (1996)

My personal favorite Tear Garden record. Written and recorded in the wake of the passing of founding member Dwayne Goettel, To Be an Angel Blind, the Cripple Soul Divide is more subdued and 'organic' than any of the band's previous material, and without a trace of proper industrial to be found.

Track listing:
1. Ascension Day
2. We the People
3. In Search of My Rose
4. Crying from Outside
5. Psycho 9
6. With Wings
7. Judgement Hour
8. New Eden
9. Tasteless
10. Cyberspider
11. Malice Through the Looking Glass
12. Phoenix
13. The Habit

I want nothing

Hilt - Call the Ambulance (Before I Hurt Myself) (1989)

The first album from this experimental, electro-industrial Skinny Puppy side project. Sounds like a more guitar/rock-oriented, still totally fucked-up SP. People seem to get mad when I post stuff like this -- for instance, check out the comments on this Front Line Assembly post, keeping in mind that I didn't publish the one that called me a faggot and told me to kill myself -- so really, I can't post enough of it. Enjoy, you bitter, bitter men.

Track listing:
1. Hilter
2. Stoneman
3. Down on Mommy's Farm
4. Baby Fly Away
5. Let's Fall Out
6. Get Stuck
7. Septic
8. I'm Standing on the Rim
9. Back to Insanity
10. Jah Mon Rasta
11. Come Alive
12. Smut Peddler (Blender Licker)
13. Get Out of the Grave Alan
14. Young Hearts
15. Squeltch
16. Wood Soup

Skinny Puppy - Brap (Back & Forth Vol. 3 & 4) (1996)

Surely Skinny Puppy needs no introduction. The first of Brap's two discs compiles early Skinny Puppy home recordings, and while they are experimental, largely instrumental, and somewhat lo-fi, it all comes across as very well-thought out and artistically polished, and would make an excellent entry point for fans of early industrial and more far-out sounds.

The second disc, composed largely of live recordings, is less essential, but the era from which most of these recordings are drawn (between Too Dark Park and Last Rights) was an undeniable artistic high point.

Track listing:
-Disc One-
1. Jackhammer
2. Splasher
3. Double Cross
4. Yo Yo Scrape
5. Carry
6. Guilty
7. The Soul That Creates
8. Brap
9. Sparkless
10. Dead Doll
11. Deadlines
12. Last Call
-Disc Two-
1. Uranus Cancelled
2. All Eyes
3. Reclamation
4. Spasmolytic
5. Grave Wisdom
6. Tin Omen
7. Gods Gift
8. Convulsion
9. Nature's Revenge
10. Love in Vein
11. Tfwo
12. Left Handshake

Download - Furnace (1995)

The Tear Garden - Tired Eyes Slowly Burning (1987)

Download began as a duo consisting of Cevin Key and (Skinny Puppy keyboardist) Dwayne Goettel who, sadly, passed away before Furnace was recorded. The group's first album, it starts out in harsh, beat-driven, goth-club-ready mode, then takes off for murkier, trippy-er terrain.

Track listing:
1. Mallade
2. Seel Hole
3. Omniman
4. Cannaya
5. Sigesang
6. Stone Grey Soil
7. Mother Sonne
8. Attalal
9. Lebanull
10. Beehatch
11. Noh Mans Land
12. Marred
13. Hevel

It's Halloween month, kids!!! Over the next few weeks, expect posts about albums that rate at at least an 8.5/10 on the Spook-O-Meter.™

To kick things off, how 'bout an experimental, psych/electro-industrial project (supergroup?) centered on the duo of Edward Ka-Spel and cEvin Key. Tired Eyes Slowly Burning features contributions from several members of Skinny Puppy and LPD, including the instantly recognizable vocals of OhGr on the heartbreaking, mindmelting centerpiece, "You and Me and Rainbows". Don't get me wrong: this is not for everyone. It's for a very specific type of nerd -- the type of nerd that reads OPIUM HUM, perhaps?

Track listing:
1. Deja Vu
2. Room with a View
3. Coma
4. Valium
5. You and Me and Rainbows
6. OO EE OO
