Oneiroid Psychosis - Forever Is Forgotten (2004)

Previously on OPIUM HUM:

Well, boys and girls, this is it. Every Halloween since I started this dumb blog -- aside from 2017 and 2019, for some reason -- I've posted an Oneiroid Psychosis record. But this is the last piece of their discography that I have to post. Barring the remote possibility of my finally tracking down a rip of Death In Utero, their first cassette -- or the even more remote possibility of a new album -- this is all I have for you. Let us rejoice in the synth-y horror, the eerie pianos, the ghoulish crooning, the pure spookiness of it all, one last time. I'm pretty sure I'm among this band's biggest fans, and I hope that I've managed to convert a few of you over the years.

Despite it being the last album of theirs I've gotten around to posting, Forever Is Forgotten is for sure one of their best records. It's probably their most serious, or least cheesy, in that it often sounds closer to The Cure than to Nightmare on Elm Street, and lyrically, he's talking about serious stuff like heartbreak and mortality, as opposed to vampires sucking his blood while he's asleep. Plus, there's a full-on doom metal breakdown.

(Y'ALL. Between starting this post and getting to this point in it -- and after over a decade of periodically searching -- I fucking tracked down a rip of Death In Utero. It's 192kbps, but still, what a goddamn Halloween miracle. It really is a wonderful life.)

Track listing:
1. Mysterium Tremendum
2. Birth and Death
3. The Room
4. The Devil's Tongue
5. As Leaves Fell
6. Never Forgive, Never Forget

Oneiroid Psychosis - Sentient (2008)

Previously on OPIUM HUM:
Oneiroid Psychosis - Stillbirth (1995)
Oneiroid Psychosis - Fantasies About Illness (1996)
Oneiroid Psychosis - Garden of Remembrance (1999)
Oneiroid Psychosis - DREAMS (With Pollutions When Virile (2002)

Perfectly spooky, synth-heavy darkwave from Oneiroid Psychosis, who pretty much serve as the OPIUM HUM house band every Halloween. As of now, Sentient is the most recent album they've put out, and unfortunately, I'm starting to think that it might be their last.

Track listing:
1. Adipocere
2. Coalesce
3. The Child Spell
4. Ambivalence
5. Away My Life
6. As I Wake
7. It Won't Go Away
8. I Am the Totality
9. Incarnate
10. The Sardonic Smile

When you take your last breath
Know that I'm the cause of your death

Oneiroid Psychosis - Fantasies About Illness (1996)

Oneiroid Psychosis - Stillbirth (1995)
Oneiroid Psychosis - Garden of Remembrance (1999)
Oneiroid Psychosis - DREAMS (With Pollutions When Virile) (2002)

It's the spookiest time of the year, kiddies. And if you're a longtime reader, you might know what that means: it's time to listen to Oneiroid Psychosis, an absurdly goth-y, synth-driven darkwave band whose music is pretty much the aural essence of Halloween. They have a song called "Midnight Mist", for crying out loud. Fantasies About Illness is their second album, and it's fucking perfect.

Track listing:
1. Psychasthene
2. Assuage
3. Midnight Mist
4. Box
5. Apostasy
6. Influence of Organism
7. Symbion
8. Obscurum Per Obscurius
9. Arise and Pass Away
10. Somnambulus
11. The Micro-Implant Conspiracy

Lying on my bed thinking that I see
Something moving in the corner but it's darkness everywhere

Oneiroid Psychosis - Stillbirth (1995)

Previously on OPIUM HUM:
Oneiroid Psychosis - DREAMS (With Pollutions When Virile) (2002)

In the OPIUM HUM household, no Halloween is complete without the traditional listening to of Oneiroid Psychosis' entire catalogue. It's a tradition because I am a total sucker for their sound -- straight-faced, electro-industrial-tinged darkwave with horror movie keyboards and self-consciously creepy vocals and lyrics -- but as I mentioned last year, it doesn't feel socially acceptable to listen to them at any other time of year. I go back and forth on what my favorite album of their is, but as of press time, I'm going with Stillbirth, their first and least cheesy record.

Track listing:
1. Succubi
2. Prurience
3. Fleshmachine
4. Bloodlust
5. Menarche
6. Hypnagogic Existence
7. Psychopathia Sexualis
8. Mind's I
9. Motionless
10. Broken Eyes
11. (Untitled)

Oneiroid Psychosis - DREAMS (With Pollutions When Virile) (2002)

The music of Oneiroid Psychosis so perfectly flits between dangerously cheesy and genuinely creepy (generally, it tends toward the cheesy side) that it pretty much only makes sense to listen to it on Halloween. Ominous pianos, eery keyboards, vaguely heavy guitars, and ghoulish vocals croaking out lyrics like "The faint presence of fear / Softly whispers in my ear." An absolute must-have for dorks like me whose lives basically revolve around making the perfect Halloween mixtape. Spoooooky!

Track listing:
1. "killed today a young girl; it was fine and hot"
2. Winter Day
3. Discharge
4. Cursed
5. Withering and Wishing
6. Disturbance
7. Fragments
8. In Nature and Black
