More For Spring
No, now don't get too excited. This isn't going to be a new pattern. Mainly, because I just used two existing patterns to create this one and so can you. The bodice is "Lindsay" and the skirt is "Miranda". I omitted the sash, but I added tons of gorgeous lace. So, here's a hint. If you wanted to recreate this dress I would HIGHLY recommend using one of your JoAnn's 40% off coupons for the lace. Because that stuff rarely goes on sale and when you are buying a lot of lace like this 40% off will really help...trust me! For this dress I just used really nice Kona cotton in white and lavender and the crinoline underneath is also in lavender. Wouldn't this be perfect for Easter or an upcoming wedding!? Hope you liked this idea...

Before The Parade Passes By......
Ahhhhh...Finally!!! I've been waiting and waiting for just the right opportunity to show off these pictures and because it's a holiday weekend this is the right time. These were actually taken last October in Yorktown (which is just a hop, skip and a jump away from us) on their annual celebration of the last battle of the Revolutionary War. Living here in Williamsburg, we are smack dab in the middle of American History central!!! Anyway, This was actually the very first "Miranda" that I made all done up in Navy and white linen and minus the embellishments and I just fell in love with it. At the parade Abby was truly the star of the show and everyone was "ooohhhing and Ahhhing" over her dress and local newspeople covering the event were busy snapping photos of her as well. So, here is yet another option for "Miranda"...you can omit the flowers and just use gorgeous fabrics and you have a classic and stunning (if I do say so myself) dress!
Hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Weekend!!!

Tea For Two
Today I took a little break from pattern writing to work on the cover for "Miranda's Dress". I needed to get creative because it's just too cold outside to have Abby wearing this dress. So, Abby and I came up with the idea of having a tea party in her room with who else...Diddlina...of course. While I was out running errands this morning I stopped by and picked up some scrumptious desserts and a bouquet of pretty flowers to set on her table and by the time I got home Abby had already set her table and Diddlina was patiently waiting for her chocolate. Then it was time to put on the dress....Abby and I were both really excited because this was the very first time she has tried it on. I have to say, I wish you all could have heard the conversation that we were having during the photo shoot..."Mom, can I have just a tiny bite of one of those cookies?" "Those eclairs smell just divine...did you smell them mom?" "I bet that cupcake with the pink frosting is To Die For!" and so on... I was cracking up the entire time and pleaded with her to be patient for just a few more pictures. Finally, when I thought I had a few decent shots I said ..."Okay, dress off...let's get the boys and have a little dessert party in the kitchen!" Within seconds I had 4 willing testers to try out all of these extra special treats and I hoped I had a few good photos!

I've Never Spent So Much Time On A Dress!!!!
Before I even begin to tell you the story behind this dress, I wanted to thank each and every one of you who left such heartfelt comments and sent emails about our family's loss. These past few days have been difficult, but I instantly knew the best way I could feel closer to Grandma was to start a new sewing project...however, this time I wanted to do something extra special. I wanted to create something that she would have loved and that reminded me of her, which meant lots of detail...Grandma loved details and delicate hand sewing. So, I set forth on re-designing one of my all time favorite dresses..."Natalie"! With this dress I added bands of a different fabric within the skirt and also added a full sash instead of the original which has the sash ties coming out from the sides. Then...the fun started! Dozens of little Yo yo flowers with button centers, "leaves" fashioned from some adorable bias tape that I had, sweet little flowers made from rick rack with pearl centers, the vine created from green rick rack mixed with a darker green embroidery floss to add interest and texture and finally little pearl beads subtly scattered and all of this was hand sewn!!!! It took me three days on and off to make this beauty and I have to say that "I have Never spent that much time making any dress before!" but I think the results were well worth the effort. When I first came up with this idea I actually thought..."People are really going to like this one...especially with Spring around the corner!" So, I documented the entire process and yes, this is going to be a new pattern. Filled with detailed information on how to make all the changes from "Natalie" as well as all the instructions on how to do all the embellishing and yes, I am even going to show you how to make the flowers and leaves. So, meet "Miranda"!
