Cordulegaster bidentata
Habituellement, dans la montée entre le grand réservoir d'eau de Bassa d'Oles en allant vers les tourbières, nous rencontrons souvent 2 ou 3 Cordulegastres annelés mâles à chacune de nos visites estivales. Mais il aura fallu attendre le 30 juin pour trouver cette dame C. bidenté qui volait autour d'une petite mare permanente, formée par le trop-plein d'une des tourbières en amont. Coup de chance elle s'est posée à hauteur des yeux sur une branche basse d'un très vieux pin de montagne...

The Somber golden ring gragonfly
This species is unknown in the UK and has become quite rare in France.
We usually find 2 or 3 males Golden rings on our way up from the water reservoir to the peat bogs on each of our outings but it is the very first time we come across this species here; we had to wait until the 30th of june to encounter this female circling a permanent puddle formed by the overflowing waters from one of those higher peat bogs.

And we were very fortunate to be able to shoot this gorgeous lady perched on a branch at eye level...
