Happy Birthday, Cordelia!

Cordelia has been so excited to turn 4!
Today, she finally does.
Happy Birthday Sweet Cordy!

Recently, while shopping with her, I was going through some
dresses and said, "Let's see if this one is your size."
Excitedly, Cordelia said, "Does it say size 'almost 4'?"

Well, she doesn't have to look for "almost 4" anymore.
Today, she officially turns 4.

When asked what she wanted for her birthday, Cordelia simply said,
"Something pink."
I think we can manage that.

I'll tell you what, these last 4 years have been delightful!
I love that little girl so completely!
She and I had a conversation this past week about the day she was born.
I told her how happy I was when she was born, how exciting it was.
She looked at me and asked, "Is that when my Momma said it was ok for you to be my Grandma?"

With or without her Mom's permission,
I absolutely love being one of that sweet little girl's grandmas!

You are my sunshine, Cordy!
I hope your day is sunshiney as well.

Mini Craft Sale

So, yesterday was crazy.
I woke up at 4:00 for no apparent reason.
I hate that.
I worked from 6ish until noonish.
I met the family for mall lunch.
I love that.
Mike and I visited some friends at the hospital. Get well, Allen!
I went to the bank.
I went home and slept for 10 minutes.
I went to see Maria, Elise and Cordy.
I love that.
I went back to work where we were having a little shopping get together with invited vendors right in the clinic lobby.
Wyoming Rose was one of the invited "stores".
That was fun.
Home by 8ish.
Sorted through crafts.
Bed!

Today, up at 5ish for another early day at work.  Sorry.  I will try to write something more interesting tomorrow.

Here's a photo from our craft table last night.  Maybe if you have a photograph to look at you won't realize how short and sweet this post is.  No?

Visiting the WYOWOLFPACK...

I don't really know what I'm doing but I'm trying to share a link to another blog.  The blog, WYOWOLFPACK, is written by my daughter's friend.  Since HER daughter and Cordelia are buddies, I often see little bits of Cordy as she enjoys her friend, Sadie.  Cordy talks about Sadie all the time so it is fun to see them in action.  I'm thinking Cordy's other grandmas may enjoy seeing this as well so here it is!

A Girl and Her Trucks

The other night I got out some of the toys Ben and Sam used to play with and offered them to Cordy to play.  Having watched little boys take those trucks and immediately make truck sounds, it was interesting to watch Cordy's way of playing.

Cordelia's trucks talk!  They say things such things as, "Hello.  How are you today?"

Cordelia's truck carried flowers in the truck bed!

I love watching this little girl grow and learn and love and change.  She's delightful!

A Tiny Rockstar

Sunday Cordelia went to Sunday School with me.  I may have mentioned before that I help teach the class for 3-5 yr olds.  Cordelia is only 2 but I figured she could hold her own there and she does.

The last 15 minutes of Sunday School all the classes get together to sing songs, celebrate birthdays, etc.  Last Sunday the group was making plans to do some special music at an upcoming church service.  The leader asked if any of the children wanted to play their instruments at the service.  Cordelia quickly volunteered to play guitar!  The lady was pretty surprised to have a 2 yr. old make such an offer.  OK, I was pretty surprised as well!  Cordy was adamant and said it many, many times.

Later, Maria told me that Cordy was still talking about the "music show" and informed them she was going to play guitar.  Cordy went on to say that Grandpa would dance, Maria would play tambourine and I would play "bass or something".  OK, then!

Well, yesterday Maria decided maybe she should get Cordelia a guitar as she was still talking about it.  She found a cute little animal-shaped guitar at Target.  It has strings but it also has buttons that she can push to make some rhythm sounds and such.  It really sounded rather pretty!  She was so delighted; she started playing right away!

She just kept playing as we walked through Target.

She started getting her own style.  I liked it best when she was nodding her head with the beat.

She was still playing when we were at Bath and Body Works.

This little rockstar made a lot of people smile at the mall today!

This is My Friend, Grandma

Cordelia has been really entertaining us lately!  Her vocabulary is excellent for a 2 year old and when you throw in that free-flowing imagination of a child it adds up to lots and lots of FUN!

This week I went with Maria and Cordelia for a quick medical appointment.  It was a happy day as it was my first time to hear the heartbeat of Cordelia's little sister.  Cordelia has been with her Momma to these appointments before and was happy to be showing me the ropes.  As we pulled into the parking lot she said, "This is how we live, Grandma!"  I wasn't quite sure what she meant but I think she was just referring to that place being part of their lives now.

Just before we entered the office Cordelia noticed a stone by the steps.  She was excited to pick it up and adopt it.  She kept a good hold on it all through the appointment, showing it to others along the way.  Later, as we were driving in the car, we gave Cordy a sucker.  Well, Cordelia is good at sharing and soon we heard her trying to share her sucker with her stone, "Here you go, little fella!"  It was adorable.  Sometimes we hear the best things coming from that little car seat in the back.  Once, I heard her say, "Shiver me timbers!"  I think I also heard a bit of a pirate's accent!

That day was also our weekly meeting for lunch at the mall day.  While the others were in line for their food I was strolling around with Cordy.  We were looking at some big photos hanging on the wall and she had some definite thoughts about them.  One was a big horn sheep.  Cordelia calmly told me that he was looking for worms.  Another photo was of a magnificent soaring eagle.  Cordelia told me the eagle was looking for helicopters.  "Helicopters?" I said.  Cordy replied, "Yes, and airplanes.  He's looking for helicopters and airplanes so he can play chase!"  OK, then.  There you have it.

Yesterday Maria and I met a friend for lunch.  When the friend arrived, Cordelia gave her a big hug and then turned to do introductions.  She said, "This is my friend, Grandma, and this is my friend, Mommy."  Yesterday  Cordelia also said, "You are precious to me, Grandma."  It just doesn't get any better than that!

She is Beautiful!

Last night our son-in-law, Eric, wanted to surprise Maria with an evening out.  You know what that meant!  Yes!  We got to be entertained by a beautiful little girl!  I know for certain that she is beautiful because that was the first thing she told me on arrival, "I am beautiful!"   You see, as Maria was getting fancied up for her night out, Cordelia wanted to do the same.

Mental note to self: never ask a two year old to smile for a picture.

We had a fun evening.  Cordy has the sweetest manners.  She asked "please" and said "thank-you" and gave lots and lots of hugs.

Cordelia wanted to watch Strawberry Shortcake but also wanted to eat supper.  What's a grandma to do?  Easily resolved, just bring the high chair into the living room!  Oh come now, don't judge me.  The rules are different at Grandma's house!

Cordy snuggled with me for the scary part of the movie.  Yes, there are scary parts in Strawberry Shortcake movies!  She patted me saying, "Don't worry Grandma.  Everything will be ok in the end."

Grandpa came home and all was well with Cordelia's world...

... and our's.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Last night was family pizza night.  Maria, Eric and Cordelia (daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter) joined us.  I think we probably have the weirdest pizza order but when we call it in, the Pizza Hut people are polite and never laugh.  I always order 3 pizzas.  All are vegetarian.  One has only black olives on it but with the regular sauce and cheese.  The second pizza has no cheese for our vegan family members.  The last pizza has cheese but no sauce for our delicate-tummy family members.  Anyway, this post is not about pizza.

Mike and Eric went downstairs to watch football for awhile.  Cordelia was not pleased.  She wandered around upstairs chanting, "I ALWAYS want my Grandpa."  It is true.  She does always want her Grandpa.  He's a lot of fun for her.  This post isn't really about him, though.

Any of you who have children or have ever spent any time around children know that kids often mimic those behaviors of which you may not be so proud.  Last night was a good example of this.

Sam's bedroom is in the basement.  I am very, very lazy.  This combination has led to me using creative ways of calling him to supper.  I often text him.  Don't laugh!  It is a useful tool of communication.  However, it doesn't work if he's left his phone on silent, has his music playing or is asleep.  For those instances I have resorted to another method.  I just bend down to the heater vent in our dining room, which is directly over his bedroom, and loudly call his name.  Cordelia witnessed this last night.

After supper we were hanging out and Grandpa and Cordelia were playing a game where Grandpa hides a toy and Cordelia searches for it.  Grandpa hid a toy turtle and apparently Cordelia was feeling a bit lazy herself.  She went over to the heater vent in the living room and started calling out, "Turtle, where are you? Turtle, this is Cordy!"  She went on to describe what she was seeing with comments like, "This is the carpet."  Maria snapped this photo with her camera phone...

Do you have any cute stories of children mimicking you?

Hall Golf

Cordelia came to visit us last night, along with her "big sister", Bumblebee.  We played with toys, watched Wonder Pets, ate crackers (or more accurately, fed crackers to Bumblebee), and snuggled.  At some point along the way, Grandpa Mike and Cordelia started up an exciting game of Hall Golf.

"What is Hall Golf?", you ask.  Well, I'm not sure of the rules, exactly, but I took some pictures as they played.

First, you've got to have a golf ball.  We're not talking about a plastic doesn't-hurt-when-your-grandaughter-bops-you-in-the-head golf ball.  We're talking about a REAL golf ball!

Then, of course, you have to use golf clubs.  Thankfully, Grandpa opted for the plastic kind in this case.

Grandpa showed Cordelia how to carry her own clubs.  She wasn't sure that was such a good idea...

Since by this time Bumblebee decided to join the game, she was drafted to be the caddie.  I don't think Bum thought that was a good idea either, but it pleased Cordelia.

It's ok because Cordy gave Bum
 hugs to show her appreciation.

After that I had a little trouble figuring out how this game was played but it seemed to involve running...

...and tickling....

...and walking on all fours.

Then came the phase of the game where I guess you had to pound on doors and walls with the ball and/or the clubs.  I didn't quite get the purpose of that but it was obviously very important to get the full fun experience of Hall Golf.

Sometimes you are supposed to just toss the ball....look-out Grandma Sue!

Afterward, you have to let your caddie rest.

While the golfers discuss what a great game they had.

Hall Golf... Do you think it will become an Olympic Sport?
