Giddy Up

My mom bought a 3-4 foot tall pony for $18 at a resale children's consignment event.... a pony you ask? Yes, a pony....

Other things my crazy mom bought at the consignment sale?
  • maternity clothes (for me!?)
  • a crib
  • a baby swing
  • baby clothes
  • a Moses basket
  • a snuggle nest
Um, did I mention I AM NOT PREGNANT!!?!  oh lordy.... looks like someone has lost their marbles....

So for now, I guess the only one that is able to enjoy that 3-4 foot tall pony is Gracie... bahaha

MS Walk 2011

Due to the terrible tornado/rainy/windy weather in the Carolinas, the MS WALK was cancelled this weekend.   I was so bummed because this is one of my favorite events of the year.

Even though the walk was cancelled, they did have a festival the night before so we could celebrate our accomplishments!... here are some pictures from that:

Hope everyone had a great weekend... and if you live in the Carolinas, I hope you are safe, sound, and free from tornado damage!

Sweet Southern Charm

Good old North Carolina...where the tea is sweet and accents are sweeter, summer starts in April, front porches are wide and words are long, macaroni & cheese is a vegetable, BBQ is the state food, y'all is a proper pronoun, chicken is fried, biscuits come with gravy, everyone is "honey", and someone is always getting their heart blessed.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and is ready for the week ahead!

Freaky Four Eyed Girl

Thanks to all who commented on my last post about the crazy bridal shower expectations.   I loved hearing some of your horror stories and advise! Now I just need to take a stand!

This weekend was insane.  I was invited to 4 parties!
* A bridal shower
* A baby shower
* A birthday party
* A final four game watching party

I skipped the baby shower and birthday party and did the other two.  It definitely helped going to a bridal shower to make me realize even more that bridal showers can (and should?) be pretty low key events.

Also this weekend I got glasses.  Yep, that's right... I now have 4 eyes.

Please excuse the lack of make-up, shower (side pony-tail?!) that is going on in this picture

After getting my glasses, I cried.

Not because I don't like glasses.  I cried because now I can SEE.

I have worn a contact ... yes "a" contact... as in just one eye... for years.  When I was originally diagnosed, I was told that I shouldn't be able to see in 3-D since I had one eye that doesn't work as well.  I thought the doctor just meant I couldn't see 3-D movies.  Apparently that isn't what he meant at all.

NOW with these glasses I CAN SEE everything in 3-D.  EVERYTHING looks different.  I had no idea how flat life looked with just my contact.  Now the tree branches look like they are popping out at me! Signs on the road have depth! I literally cried to my husband... "is this what you see everyday?? I don't think I can handle it".  I am literally walking around touching everything because it all looks so different and I don't think my brain can figure out what is going on.

Yep, folks... I am a freak... and I have 4 eyes... and I'm happy

Breaking the Bank

I have a question for you guys.... maybe a "touchy" question because it deals with MONEY (eeek!!)

Have you ever thrown a bridal shower?

How much money are you expected to spend on throwing one of these things?

The reason I ask? Well... I volunteered to co-throw a shower for a friend.  However, the person I am working with is going CRAZY with suggestions for what I thought was going to be a nice, quiet, LITTLE shower.

She is wanting to rent a huge tent for the backyard, rent tables/chairs, cater it, have a bartender with a FULL bar, and Lord knows what else...

Don't you think that is a little much?

Maybe I am just used to SMALL showers -- you know... a cake....some presents...usually at someone's house... a few decorations... play a few games...

Did I mention this party is being thrown in the country in a backyard? I mean, think FARM party....cows, pigs, horses are the closest neighbors... I didn't expect some big fancy schmancy thing-a-ma-gig

Am I crazy? How do I tame down this party?

What is normal? How much do normal people spend on these things? I don't want to sound like a cheapo but I am not going bankrupt over a shower for a friend.

Advise is welcome :)
