Life Book #12

Here is my Life Book project from the third week of March.
It was taught by Mindy Lacefield
and the theme was Celebration and Connection.

This was a really interesting lesson.
I realize that I try too hard to be realistic.
I understand that is part of  'Finding My Voice' in art.
And I really wasn't satisfied with my two little people.
Shading faces is Hard!

So I went from this....

To a page in a journal where I had a flowery background....
and tried faces more in the style that was taught.
Using shading that was suggested...
blues, yellows and greens in the face...
and I even used purple!

I love how these little faces turned out!

It was a really valuable exercise.
Thank you Mindy!

So there you have it.
Life Book Lesson 12
offered by Mindy Lacefield.

Here is a bonus to Life Book....
you get to take classes from a variety of artists
and you discover which ones you can really learn from and enjoy.
I will happily take a class from Mindy in the future!
The way she painted was just so natural.
I could learn a lot!

Be Brave!
Try something new!

Life Book Week 11

Week 11 was kind of fun.
Mitsi B (Michelle Kral) was our guide.
The title of the lesson was 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly'
She gave us a really funny video to start the project!
The idea of the lesson is accepting (and connecting with)
the ugly side of me. My bad side. My weak side.
I actually did many progress photos.
So I'll take you through it.

First I oozed on acrylic paints, SU ink drips and gelato scribbles.
I sprayed water on and mushed it around.
I did that a few times till I liked it.

I did the drip thing with the Stampin Up inks.
Did some stencils, stamped some circles with a cardboard tube.

 I wrote some opposite words.
Broken - Whole
Weak - Strong
And more....
I watered it all down.

 And then I wrote-
Love me? Love my ugly.
Two halves make a whole.
Love All of me.
Then I dripped more and colored more
and smeared the words around.

I stamped the little polky dots with Stazon Ink.
It made a nice background.
And then I used an empty cardboard washi tape circle
and black acrylics to stamp bigger circles.

It was time for the monsters.
MY monsters.
I used gelatos and Neocolor II's for more transparency.

Then more words and some tapes,
and I decided I was done.
I was trying to make it all ugly.
It is almost too cartoony.
But I like it!
 Love me...Love my ugly.

Life Book Week 10

The month of March starts Week 10 of Life Book 2013.
Our theme is Celebration and Connection.
The mastermind of Life Book, Tamara Laporte, guided us.
We made a list of heart connections...
and then wrote notes of Gratitude to those blessings...
and rolled them up into little scrolls and made
a dimensional heart from these connections.
I have thought alot about connection over the last few years
and totally enjoyed this lesson.

The window is from a photo I took in Italy a couple years back.

I used all kinds of layers in the background.
Washi tape and magazine words.
Stamps and Rub ons.
Doilies and stencils.
I used a piece of lace from my wedding dress.
And did you notice the center heart is made of thread and fabric scraps.

The little scrolls of paper hold my messages of gratitude.

 I loved doing this!

My friend over at Blue Skies,
Lynn Richards, said this....

'Jesus, Therapy and Art saved my life."

But it totally describes my experience too...
and I might be paraphrasing it a little.

Here's to Connection!

Life Book Week 9

Here is my Week 9 offering in the Life Book lessons.
Danita was the delightful teacher.
It was a short bonus lesson, but to me a real eye opener.
I have always been interested in painting on top of a printed image.
There was just something about the look...
but me? I want to see it done.
I want the tutorial. I want the visual lesson.
I want to be shown....

I was not happy with it in the beginning.
The face was too miky looking.
And it was really hard to blend.
I don't think I did that great a job of it.
But the practice is done.
It is exciting that there is so much potential with the process!

I love how her blue eyes turned out.
She does look like she is clenching her jaws though!
I only took one process photo.
I mean to take more... then I forget.
It is so easy to get lost in art and creativity!

Be Brave and try something new today!
