My 2012 Memory Capsule ~ Part 2

Where Oh Where did the Year 2012 Go?

~  part 2 ~

This is the 2nd part of My Trip Down 2012 Memory Lane.
If you missed the 1st post, please start there.  You can find it by clicking on this link ~> My 2012 Memory Capsule ~ Part 1
I hope you enjoy these Memory Capsule Posts I am sharing and will join me in reflecting on what the Year 2012 meant to you.   I want to reflect on what each month held within its grasps, whether it be related to crafting, family, friends, or nonsense.  I want to reflect to push me in to full gear when I embark on the journeys ahead of me in the upcoming year  ~2~0~1~3~!
I want to set so many goals for 2013 and want more to accomplish them.  I hope to bear witness to others setting and achieving their own personal goals, too.  I wish to make new friends and connect with others so that we can bounce our creativity off of each other.   I hope to watch the connections that were made in 2012, blossom into beautiful relationships!

I started this Personal Series of Memory Capsule Posts with my Reflections of the Months, January through June of 2012.  Today, I start with where I left off in my last post.

This Part 2 Post will highlight my Reflections of the Months, July through December 2012.  I value your input, comments, and any ideas you wish to share as a result of reading through my Blog and gazing at my pictures.

I will also share a Personal Series of my 2013 Goals which I will set for myself in hopes that I can always look back and revisit my accomplishments to encourage more Goal Setting further down the line.  There is always room for improvement, in my book!

I will be spending some time gathering up some fun Crafty Goodies to offer as a Giveaway if we have enough people joining in, reading along and sharing their input.  So, it wouldn't hurt to share this with your friends so they know there is a Prize Up for Grabs!  And, I promise, I will make the Prize a GOOD One, so your efforts and time spent reading along, do not go unnoticed!

~~~REFLECTIONS~~~
Altered Memo Board
So, a while back, I stocked up on an amazing deal.  I ended up buying about a dozen of this style memo board along with about a dozen of two other styles.  I anticipated doing some fun altering with them and in July, I created this sparkly fun one for my sweet Step Daughter Gabriella.
2. What is the name and link of your blog?  How long have you been blogging?
Scrap Happens Embellish It
 I starting blogging in October of 2010.
I was pretty scared at first and didn't post much,
but now I have my personal blog
and own 4 challenge blogs :)
 3.  What is your favorite craft to work with (type, technique, style)?
I  I don't really have a favorite craft.
I am kinda all over the place when it
comes to crafting. I do seem to have a lot of paper though :)
4. Do you have other hobbies?
I love to read and I sew on occasion...when time permits :)
5. How did you get started in the Craft World?
I have always dabbled in one type of craft or another, but started paper crafting about 6 years ago. A friend had given me an empty scrapbook and a bunch of papers as a baby shower gift when i was pregnant with my son. It sat in the closet for 2 years and one day I decided to get it out and play around. I was instantly hooked.
6. Where are you from?
Born in Alaska, but grew up in Kansas.
I have lived in Saint Louis, MO for the last 8 years.
7. If you could give a tip to a new crafter/blogger, what would it be?
Don't worry about what everyone else thinks of your crafting. Your opinion is the only one that matters.
8. Name some things that you have learned this year, that you are glad  you  learned?
 I have learned to craft outside of my box and try new things that I never would have tried had I not been pushed.
9. Do you have anything personal you wish to share with the readers?
I love vampires, the paranormal and reality TV :)
10. What are your future ambitions?
I would love to open a Coffee Bar/Scrapbook Shop, but first I have to win the lottery.
11. What challenges have you faced, but conquered in crafting?</ span>
 I was so scared to work with digital images. Now they are pretty much the only "stamp" I use.
12.  When told you would be interviewed for this Guest Post, what
question were you hoping to be asked?
What is your favorite crafting tool?
13.  What answer would you give to the unasked question?
I love my Cricut and wish I had time to use it more!
1.
What’s your name?
2. What is the name and link of your blog?  How long have you been blogging?
button
My first post was on May 6, 2011, but I was writing for other people's couponing blogs for several years before that.
Extreme couponing was kind of my introduction into the blogging world.
(Yes, I was one of those crazies that got almost all of our groceries and household items for free!)
 3.  What is your favorite craft to work with (type, technique, style)?
Absolutely paper crafting as a whole.  That being said, everything is ever-changing with me.  I started as strictly a scrapbooker, and then learned card making.  Cricut was my big focus, but I've evolved into stamping, coloring, and working with inks making backgrounds.  I used to paint in oils, and am slowly moving back that direction...but just on paper and with ink instead!
4. Do you have other hobbies?
I've been a musician all my life.  I've played guitar for nearly 40 years and used to sing professionally (MANY years ago!)  Music was my first true passion.  I've  also dipped into painting, sewing, cake decorating, volunteering for local schools and charities, teaching guitar and/or voice, couponing, and photography...just to name a few!!
5. How did you get started in the Craft World?
I can't really pinpoint it, since it's always been a part of my life.  I was always in some sorts of arts and crafts class in school, I got into sewing clothes for my kids when they were little (I still have the dress I made for my daughter's first Easter...it took one yard of material, six yards of lace, and seven yards of ribbon!) I started painting while watching Bob Ross on PBS (raise your hand if you remember him!)  Eventually, I went to a craft night with a friend at her church and watched them scrapbook.  That was probably 5 or 6 years ago, and I've been hooked ever since!
6. Where are you from?
That's a trick question!  I live in Seattle but have lived all over the country.  Here's the Cliff Notes:  I was born in Georgia, then...TX, GA (again) Canada (BC) WA, CA, CO, NM, CT, TX (again) NM (again) and WA (finally!)  I went to 14 different schools if that paints you a picture!
7. If you could give a tip to a new crafter/blogger, what would it be?
First and foremost, believe in yourself and what you're doing.  Art is very personal, and you should never allow anyone to tell you that what you're doing isn't correct.  As far as blogging is concerned, write about what you love, and post often!  I've learned that people will actually come and read what you have to say, but only if you give them something TO READ!
8. Name some things that you have learned this year, that you are glad  you  learned?
Craftwise: I've learned how to stamp and color...mostly with watercolor pencils and a water pen.
Blogwise: I'm learning how to grow my blog and make it my passion.  I hope to be able to turn it into a career one day.
9. Do you have anything personal you wish to share with the readers?
I could write for DAYS about my family, but I'll give you the short and sweet version.  I have two grown children who are the light in my life.  My son and his extraordinary wife live in Texas and work at a Medical University. They're both happy, healthy,successful, and in the process of adopting a baby!
My daughter graduated high school and community college on the same day!  She went on to earn her BA at 20 years old, and has been in her dream career for the past 5 years at an incredible place called the Abused Deaf Women's Advocacy Services.
My husband is simply the best.  Period.  Sorry ladies!  He's a three time cancer survivor, and the strongest, most positive person I've ever known.  I look at him every day and wonder how I got so lucky.
10. What are your future ambitions?
Personal: to get a severe neck injury fixed so I can start doing more in life!
Professional: to take my blog to the next level and eventually turn it into a career.
Crafting: Ummm...to get my son and DIL's wedding scrapbook finished, since they've been married now for 2 1/2 years!
11. What challenges have you faced, but conquered in crafting?
Learning to color is the most current one.  Now my next challenge is to get on a Design Team...any takers?!?!  Ha ha!
12.  When told you would be interviewed for this Guest Post, what
question were you hoping to be asked?
Oh my goodness, I hadn't thought about it, but I was hoping to be able to work bragging about my family in there somewhere..and I did!  I guess it would be, tell me more about how you got your craft room for FREE!!!
13.  What answer would you give to the unasked question?
Well, of course!  I always love to talk about that!  I have some neighbors that are great at building and design.  They also like to go on frequent vacations but have three HUGE dogs at home.  We decided to trade dog/house sitting for a craft room!!  In exchange for my keeping an eye on things for them and hanging with their dogs, they designed and built me my dream craft room.  They put in new flooring and special art lighting, redid electrical outlets, built me a custom L shaped 14 foot long desk, custom built the paper shelf of my dreams, and even made me a Dutch door so that I can keep my dogs away from the craft stuff, yet they can still hear and see me and not stress out that I spend ALL my time in my room!
Here's a link to the post about my room, if you're interested in checking it out!
I would love to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU JESSICA!!!  Not only have you built a fun virtual place for us to come hang out, but you've taken a key role in helping to promote our crafting/blogging community to the next level!!!  We all love you dearly!
A Little Bit of Bling
3 Girl JAM- Started Sept. 2011-  http://3girljam.blogspot.com/
3
Girl JAM
 3.  What is your favorite craft to work with (type, technique, style)?
I love paper!
I am a card maker for sure!  I honestly am still
figuring out what my style is.
 feel like I don't really have a
particular style- I just create how I feel.
I guess that's my own style.  :0)
4. Do you have other hobbies?
I'm learning how to sew!  My mother tried to teach me when I was young but
I wouldn't even try.  I wish I would have listened to my Mother!
5. How did you get started in the Craft World?
Definitely from my Mom.  She did everything- and I have no idea how she
did it!  I've been "crafty" since I was a kid.  When I became a "grown up" I stopped doing any kind of crafts.  I spent my time working and partying and doing other things that college kids
do.  LOL
Once I really grew up and had kids- they started coming home
from school saying, "I have to make a collage" or "I have to decoupage this box" my craftiness
started coming back.  One day, two years ago, a Cricut infomercial came on
and my girls talked me into getting one.   10 minutes with my Cricut
Expression and I was hooked.
I watched videos and started reading a few
blogs and realized that this was something that I really wanted to do.
I started my blog "A Little bit of Bling" in Feburary 2011 so I could
participate in some challenges.  I started making some friends and fell in
love with this whole on-line crafting community!  I started 3 Girl JAM in
September 2011 and started selling hand-dyed crinkle ribbon and vintage buttons.
Little did I know that the decision to start that blog- would turn into a life
changing event!  I hope to sometime in the near future, be able to turn 3
Girl JAM into my full time "job".  I have a phenomenal group of
ladies who support my efforts and make fabulous projects to share with the
blogging  community every day.  I am blessed beyond measure!
6. Where are you from?
I am from Iowa.  There is a lot of corn here.
7. If you could give a tip to a new crafter/blogger, what would it be?
Craft and write about what makes you happy.  People want to see what
you're doing- even when you think they don't.  Your blog is your own
little piece of cyber real estate!
8. Name some things that you have learned this year, that you are glad  you  learned?
I have learned how to express myself again!  I learned what truly makes me
happy and peaceful- creating!
9. Do you have anything personal you wish to share with the readers?
I hate amusement parks.
I’m allergic to dogs.
I want to play the tambourine in a rock band.
Watermelon is evil.
 I love new socks! *Random*
10. What are your future ambitions?
I want to make 3 Girl JAM a household name- but I'd settle for a personal shout out from
Tim Holtz, Heidi Swapp, or Teresa Collins.  LOL
11. What challenges have you faced, but conquered in crafting?</ span>
In crafting- it's always a challenge to learn a new technique.
A fun but sometimes frustrating too!  When I first tried using
distress ink, I was like, "What is this junk and why does everyone love it
so much!"   Sorry Tim- I just didn't get it.
So I practiced and watched you tube videos.
Now I get it - and I LOVE my Distress Inks.
I'm still not sure about Alcohol Inks though!  Right now I'm
trying to figure out Spellbinders.  I'm not sure I can get over my plates
getting marked up!  (That's my imaginary OCD though!)
In Blogging- the biggest challenge has been learning that not everyone is
"real".  **Spoiler alert- there are some mean people out here in
blog land. (There are some crazy people too!)   However, for every 1
mean (or crazy) person, there are 100 sweet, honest, kind hearted people who
would be willing to do just about anything to help out a fellow Crafter.
12.  When told you would be interviewed for this Guest Post, what
question were you hoping to be asked?
I was hoping to be asked if there was anything new or exciting happening on my
blog.
13.  What answer would you give to the unasked question?
Wow!  I'm so glad you asked!!  :0)
At "A Little Bit of Bling" I continue to be busy as Design Team
member for Pink by Design.
I love promoting products that I truly love
and use everyday!
“3 Girl JAM” continues to rock my world!
My Daughters are a huge help to me and I love them more than anything in the world!
We launched a new store website: www.3girljam.com.
A couple weeks ago we announced our latest Design Team
