Butterfly Addiction (& Video ~ Real Time Art Journaling)

Hi Love

I've had a realisation this week as to why I may have a slight butterfly addiction (those of you that have take my free class Inspiration Station would have seen this, I explain it as I realise there are butterflies ALL OVER those journals lol). My sudden realisation comes from a social media post I wrote a couple of days ago. It's kind of a personal one, so I am sharing it here for prosperity followed by an early peek at a youtube video I'll be posting tomorrow where I create a page with...you guessed it, butterflies. Enjoy

My Great Grandmothers Butterfly fits in nicely in my outdoor studio I think...

When I was a child I remember these enameled butterflies being all over her little flat (apartment to those over you over the pond). On every mirror, windows, picture frame and fridge (…may be this is where my obsession with butterflies comes from?). I don’t know if that was truly how it was or if it just how I remember it, but I always associate these soft little pretty colourful girlie things with an austere, proper, Edwardian woman who I loved but no one in their right mind would have ever called a ‘softie’.

She wore bland clothes, kept a bland house, and was straight down the line. She saw everything as black and white, ‘this is right and this is wrong’. No argument or compromise. She invented the phrase ‘stiff upper lip’. I never remember seeing her smile except in photographs I have seen as an adult, long after she has left the earth. Pure toughness of the First World War generation through and through. Yet I obviously never saw or noticed any of that as a child, she was my great grandma, and I just saw butterflies

Portfolio Loose Leaf Art Journal Flip & Christmas Class Craziness!!

Hi! Hope you've had a fabulous Christmas period and are still rolling around from how stuffed you are (she says as she's eating her Christmas choccies =) )

I have a new journal flip today, as I said I would after the last Loose Leaf Art Journal Flip, those of you in the Monthly Challenge Group may recognise some of these pages.
Hope you enjoy:

I'm a bit late doing this weekly ramble as obviously Friday was Christmas day, though I suppose that doesn't matter much as Christmas Eve (I've no idea what possessed me) I opened the doors to my Brand New Class,

Though to be honest despite the unfortunate timing it wasn't that much of a crazy decision. It hasn't taken that much to get it prepared and launched, though I'm pretty sure that's because I'm so passionate about it that the work it takes doesn't feel like work - and that's exactly what I can't wait to teach in this class; how to bring your goals into being in the most joyous, easy way possible

It is a different kind of 'creation' class. It is my most premium and comprehensive class but right now I am offering it at a Christmas Gift Price of Over 50% off:

Click here to see all that's included in the class:

Much love and if I don't see you before

Loose Leaf Art Journal Flip Video & Peek at my Junk Journal

So this week I have been doing a lot of junk journaling, in truth as an assistance to a huuuuugggeeee project I've been working on eeeeeekkkkkkk...more on that coming soon. But it's the reason I haven't posted on here for a couple of weeks - I've just been swept away, it's been boootiful!! The only other major thing I've been doing is planning my glorious new year with my 2016 Shining Workbooks:

After I posted this pic of Facebook I got a couple of emails about them and what they're for: they're by Leonie Dawson and their bright, colourful & practical tools to achieving what you want out of your upcoming year. You can find out more here: http://tinyurl.com/ShiningWorkbooks

So seeing as the junk journaling is my main art journaling process atm & I was already doing a new journal flip video I thought I would share some of those junk pages and their process in the flip too...
hope you enjoy =)

Hope you have an awesome week
((((One weeeek till Christmasssssss)))) wohooohoohoooo (or should that just be ho ho ho??) either way have a great one!!!

Have a great weekend

PS the ART SWAP Group opened on Journal Workshops this week - it's a great way to make new artists friends and to make & recieve some original artwork too. ...on Altered Books

So my ramble this week is on, altered books...because that is what I've been up to and where my head is currently at.

Saying I have thousands of suitable vintage and antique books to alter is probably no exaggeration & it's always something that appeals to me, however when I come to create I'm usually drawn to a journal I have handmade. Not so much at the moment though, at the moment I am just thinking books, books, books.

It's not like I need to start a new journal, I have plenty going but the muse is calling and she usually gets her way (plus I do have a fairly good idea of a particular use I have for the journals I'm making so she has swayed my logic brain somewhat to her thinking too - which makes a change).

Here is a lil video showing how I am prepping two altered books for my next art journals:

...and I did make something in it,
I started this lil page...
using the same techniques shared in my recent pastels and charcoal video tutorial herebut this time I favoured the charcoals.

That's it for today my sweets, I am super busy making my 21 Secrets Lesson *awesome*, I have to keep this ramble short and sweet. If you wanna come join in the 21 Secrets LOVE click the link to take a goosey gander at what's on offer:

How I Make a Friend/Family Journal

Hi guys,
quick vloggy, vloggy, vloggy time =)

- to answer a few curious peeps here's how I make a 'regular' friend/family journal. Since I did the this vid I have added a couple more embellishments as you can see below, but it's still all very simple, stuff I already had and understated so that the recipient can turn it into any kind of journal they decide:

It's super simple, it depends on who I'm giving the journals to but usually I like to give 'clean' looking journals to non-crafty people; they still look handmade rather than store brought but are not too intimidating. But if it's to a mixed-media lover they hey I may go all out ;)
So here's the vlog, enjoy:

And here's the Smash Book Tutorial I used to create it:

Wishing you a fabby crafty weekend

The Half-Finished Journal Parade

So the past week or so I have been quenching my thirst to make journals, from which I got to thinking about all the journals I have currently sitting in my studio, not able to go in my journal trunks because only those finished may enter that land of journal fiefdom!

I have many more unfinished journals than what I share in this vlog, and it doesn't really bother me having so many semi-complete journals. I know some people feel guilty wanting to start yet another journal but I don't think it's wrong to love variety or being able to dip into other journals when you need to (this is where the 'theme' thing I talk about in the vlog comes into play). I think of it as having a favourite dish (my main art journal - currently my loose leaf journal) but occasionally having a taste or try of other things on the menu...still I'd be interested to hear how anyone else works, or what they would do with half-finished journals?

Psst just so you know I cut out about 5 mins of me acting (more) crazy in this....you're welcome ;) I blame the cough syrup!

So any suggestions for these? What about your unfinished journals?? Let me know in the comments below & I'll do a blogpost or video or something if I come up with any grand plans for using them up myself.
Much love

Mini Journaling

Hello lovelies
This is a very quick post from me tonight as it’s very late and I’m all but sleep-walking lol

Here is a quick video I did on the concept of multi-page journaling. If you have watched my previous flip videos especially you will probably have seen that in the past I’ve been rather fond of putting a journal within a journal, and creating many pages at once is what I think they are especially good for. You can find ways to make quick n easy mini journals in this particular video playlist here – I used a simple pamphlet stitch; a true journalers staple.

Much love (and goodnight, sleep-tight!)

I haven't got any pictures (it's that new),
but here's a video of me making it:

Just Paint ~ An Art Journal Page Challenge

Hi guys so I have a video for you today woohoo!

It's a page process of an art journal challenge I set myself. An anti-mixed media art challenge, as mixed media is pretty much how I may normally approach my journal pages. So I took away the stamps, stencils, stickers, multi-tude of medias and most importantly...papers! I looooooooove me my papier!! ...but it's good to mix things up occasionally.

It may sound like a contradiction in terms but it can help encourage an expansion of your creativity by setting yourself limitations, sometimes. True story.

So I choose just acrylic paint, which I have done before especially in my Acrylic Journal, but this time I picked six colours I was feeling and just stuck with those six.

You can of course have every colour imaginable if you just pick a couple but mix them, but I didn't want to colour mix, I just wanted to keep the 6 colours as true as I could from tube to page but still creating an interesting background (which might usually be the papers/mixed medias) and a foreground
Writing it back it sounds more regimented than what I think challenges should be - possibly because I'm explaining it out loud lol but in reality I just grabbed six colours I liked and played with them like they were the only art supply I had. It is a fun exercise for an hour.

I hope you enjoy =)

London...and the Merit of Ditching

Today I have learnt the merits of ditching.

Card Horse Heads in Liberty's...it'll make more sense as the post goes on...hopefully

I also learned something about myself too. In creative terms I always thought I was rather flexible, given that I get so many ideas I have to allow many of them (and good ones too) to be cast aside so that others can see the sunshine. But what I have found out is that in actuality I am rather stubborn, and once an idea takes root in my head to become more than just an idea then it's immovable.

ya know, that Abbey Place

Much like that recent video I spent aggggges working on....before I went and ditched it. I had to finish my vision, and only once it was done did I then decide I didn't like it anymore. I guess I would have saved myself a lot of time and energy if I had decided this beforehand. If I had removed the root before it became a weed may be a rose could have blossomed instead.

(this is a CAKE! ... yup I know, from Choccywoccydoodah in London)

However that is what I am doing now, and with an idea that has been rooted a lot longer than that discarded video. It has been so long rooted in fact that it could be an oak tree by now.The idea itself was to make a London themed/travel journal.

that place the Queen lives

The place just always meant so much to me, I felt it was right, that it was necessary even. I have waited a loooong while to create such a journal. I have even just come back from London and thought this should be the time to do it. The problem is, I'm not sure 'should' is really the right motivation for such a thing as creativity to bloom. So I'm releasing myself from this and a couple of other projects to focus on my roses. Besides I have waited years to create a London journal so I can wait a little, or a lot, longer until the journal itself becomes the rose. And if it doesn't, and the other projects too remain nothing but air...well that's fine, my garden will likely be blooming anyways.

me on Millennium Bridge,
from this point I can point out over 10 buildings I've worked in on the River Thames

So all in all I learned this about myself this week:
I have a great weakness for having to finish (practically) everything I set my mind to.

I also learned:
I have a great strength for having to finish (practically) everything I set my mind to.
...for it must be a great strength too must-ant it?
If it wasn't there you'd never even know who I was let alone be reading my blog because nearly every creative project has a problem phase (or several) where it seems reasonable to want to ditch it, even the roses

So I guess stubbornness has it's merits too,
as it is important to finish,
but I cannot deny that sometimes it is also important to ditch.

(10 mins of the Vlog is showing a flip of (or lack of) my London Journal, only one min is actually London bits and pieces)
Much love
