IAAF President Diack Hopes to See Japan Host World Championships

http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20140108-00000109-jij-spo translated by Brett Larner Paying a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Jan. 8, IAAF president Lamine Diack  expressed his hope that Japan would be the host of the 2021 World Championships.  In an interview following the pair's meeting Diack said, "I wish the best of luck for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.  If possible I'd like to see Japan host the World Athletics Championships as well."  After being approached by the IAAF the JAAF looked at bidding for the 2019 World Championships but determined that facility and budgetary issues precluded it from making a bid.  The World Athletics Championships are held every two years.  Japan previously hosted the Championships in 1991 in Tokyo and 2007 in Osaka.
