"Moonrise Shadow" (measures 13.5 x 6 inches) by Jane LaFazio
You know I love gelli plate printing! Here's my latest little completely hand-stitched art quilt from my original printed fabric.

I'm working on some pieces for my workshop at CRAFT NAPA next week (sorry it's been long sold out.) (There will be an artist sale on Friday, January 13 at the Napa Embassy Suites at 6:30 pm, if you are in the area. I'll be there selling my wares!)

Tile designs ~ and printmaking

Remember the reductive printmaking I did recently?  I used the last stamp, and stamped it on rice paper, then colored it in with watercolor! waay fun, and so much potential

I'm thinking of creating a class on tile designs. Watercolor, reductive printing, fun foam stamps! the list goes on and on. Yet another fab idea to pursue. Do you have as many ideas as I have? How do you chose which to pursue?

my so-called sketchbook is a little out of control!

Monoprinting class at Long Beach Quilt Festival

Monoprinting Class
Have I mentioned I love monorpinting on a gelatin plate? (Especially now that Gelli Arts has come up a printing plate!)
Here are some pics and student's work from my 1 day class at the Long Beach International Quilt Festival. Clearly other people love monoprinting too!Monoprinting ~ student work

Monoprinting on cloth or paper

mono reverse applique
I love monoprinting on a gelatin plate. And you can do so many things with your monoprints. You can print on cloth and do a reverse appliqué (that's my beet pomegranate batting peaking through)
mono on black
You can print on colored cloth (this is black linen from an old pair of pants.)
monoprint on paper
You can print on paper and collage and stitch.
CROWing ~ detail
You can use the monoprint as a background and appliqué on top.
crow calculations detail
You can just hand stitch the dickens out of it.
agave casa
You can make them and sell them on ETSY (Agave Casa is here in my Etsy shop.)

You could make monoprints on your own, and use my friend Leslie Jenison's tutorial on The Sketchbook Challenge blog, OR, better yet, take a full day workshop from me at the Long Beach Quilt Festival on Friday, July 29. Or if you live farther east (giggle) take Monoprinting on Fabric and Paper at Art Unraveled in Phoenix on August 4. I'll bring the gelatin!

Monotype Mania!

I love gelatin monotypes and my friends requested a day of it. Here they are, in Andy's studio. L to R: Susie Clark (in the back) Andy Hein, Helen Shafer Garcia, Pamela Underwood and Jill Hall

We spent most of the day making monoprints, having lunch, talking and laughing.
out to dry
It was a gorgeous warm day, so we put some of our prints outside to dry.

These are some of mine.

When I got home, I selected one of my prints on fabric to begin sewing on. The pic on the right is from the back, some free motion machine stitching.

Here's the work in progress~ adding some hand stitching. Okay, a lot of hand stitching.

Remember my fabric vase tutorial? Suzanne Stewart followed it and made a beautiful vase to go with her table runner. Check out her work here.

How I see

Husb and I went to Balboa Park this week, and visited the San Diego Museum of Art. When I go places, these are the kinds of photos I take:

As I was preparing this post, I thought the photos would be one post, and my latest stitched monotype would be another post. Then I realized how similar my inspiration photos are to my work. Funny how something that should be obvious occurs to you, isn't it?
