writing hut: Roald Dahl

not only because tiny buildings are so great,
but also because the idea of a work sanctuary is so appealing.

This is Roald Dahl's writing hut, in the back yard of his home.

nice yellow door!

take a (brief!) 3d tour of the interior: roald dahl museum

marimekko

crate and barrel has a whole marimekko shop now.

maybe it is because I had bedsheets
with this pattern when I was a kid,
but I have always liked marimekko.

take a gander at these amazing garments
with their bold patterns and boxy forms:

classic.

maira kalman

Maira Kalman's paintings have grabbed my attention lately.
She and Lemony Snicket have a new book together with great, vibrant illustrations.

i love all the shades of white on that box
and in the background.

these images are small, but just look at that tablecloth.

don't miss the casually deployed Rietveld chairs
and the amazing collection of ladders

thanks to HarperCollins for the screen grabs

here is a nice post about her

PIG 05049

here is a great gift for the artsy foodie on your list:
PIG 05049

this book is by the same guy who makes the giant knit object from my recent post.
it is all about the myriad uses for pig parts.
it calls to mind the Native American thing of using
every
single
part of an animal.
we have clearly gotten quite good at that.

buy the book here.

also a beautiful movie about wool, same guy.

be sure to read the instructions - you can look at the whole library,
and in many instances see the contents of the shelves
and even pull up the information about individual books.

nice space and lovely bookshelves too.

from seed to skillet

Susan Heeger has a new gardening book coming out in December.
Chock full of information
about how to grow an edible organic garden at home
and then cook it up in your kitchen.
Beautiful too!
