Disparu en 2012 à… 92 ans, Dave Brubeck a réussi l’exploit d’être à la fois populaire et savant : un art du grand écart qui se matérialise dans Time Out qu’il a gravé avec son complice saxophoniste Paul Desmond. Laboratoire rythmique, recueil de « tubes » (de « Take Five » à « Blue Rondo a la Turk »), disque aux ventes stratosphériques, l’album mérite bien la première « Leçon de Jazz » d’Antoine Hervé dédiée à un seul disque. Loin du cours magistral, sa fructueuse performance pédagogique se présente comme un véritable concert sous-titré où l’ex-directeur de l’Orchestre National de Jazz joue ce qu’il dit et dit ce qu’il joue. Aussi drôle que captivant, Antoine Hervé offre sur un plateau d’argent les bouées salvatrices pour nager avec excitation dans le grand bain du jazz à la Brubeck.

Antoine Hervé surrounded by the Moutin brothers on bass and drums has chosen to evoke the great Oscar Peterson and his music. The pianist with shoulders of four octaves wide, with long hands allowing him an extraordinary large scale was an accomplished melodist. And Hervé have no choice to show his own skillness to demonstrate Oscar's art. Hervé discovered Oscar Peterson at the age of 12 and this has been enough to bring him to jazz piano.
