Adam Makowicz - From My Window (1980)

Adam Makowicz mixes the techniques of Art Tatum and Vladimir Horowitz in this sensational album of solo piano. Because this LP hasn't been reissued on CD, it will become increasingly difficult to find, so true fans of jazz piano will want to pick it up.

Adam Makowicz Trio - My Favorite Things (1991)

Polish and Czechoslovakian immigrants Adam Makowicz and George Mraz are both jazz virtuosos on their instruments, piano and bass, and they are in great form here as they find new layers of beauty in these familiar yet well-crafted tunes. Mraz's bowed melody on "My Funny Valentine" is a highlight. Makowicz playfully quotes a short phrase from "Fiddler On the Roof" during his "Lady Is a Tramp" solo. Alan Dawson, one of the most consistently tasteful and solidly swinging drummers in jazz, is also on his game here. If you like jazz piano trios and classic tunes, it doesn't get any better than this. (J. Levinson)

Adam Makowicz - Gershwin Makowicz (1998)

Adam Makowicz (born Adam Matyszkowicz August 18, 1940 in Gnojnik, Zaolzie) is a Polish-American pianist and composer living in Toronto, who performs jazz and classical piano pieces, as well as his own compositions. Adam Makowicz made a strong impression when he first came to the U.S. and at the time, he was often compared to Art Tatum. Although his technique is nearly on Tatum's level, Makowicz has long had his own style, mixing together different aspects of jazz, ranging from swing to hard bop.

Besides playing solo, he has worked with such musicians as Michał Urbaniak and Leszek Możdżer, as well as with the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington DC, at the Kennedy Centre, at the Carnegie Hall, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, and other major orchestras at concert halls in Americas and in Europe. His technical mastery as jazz pianist has also been compared to Oscar Peterson, Errol Garner, among others. His speciality in classical piano since his studies in the 1950s has been the music of Chopin. (Scott Janow)
