Oscar Peterson Trio - Live In Melbourne, Australia (1960)

BP Super Show
Embers Night Club
Toorak Road, South Yarra, Melbourne, Australia
June 1960

Chuck Yates, an australian jazz pianist, in an interview (June 12, 2012), remembered that OP came to play at the Embers: "Oscar Peterson was probably my first major influence. I couldn’t believe it when I heard him at the Embers in Melbourne in the early 1960s. He would play Benny Golson’s ‘I Remember Clifford’ as a ballad, then double the time and then double it again."

Oscar Peterson Trio - Live In Vienna (1968)

Konzerthaus
Vienna, Austria
November 9, 1968

"If I ever had to make a case for the technical merits of jazz compared with classical music, I would use Oscar Peterson as my trump card. His ability was equal to any of the great classical pianists - a fact that was recognized by such admirers as André Previn. And he could improvise in a way that most of them never dreamed of. This concert is a fine example of Oscar's abilities. He seemed to be in a particularly hectic mood at this concert in Vienna's Konzerthaus, as he takes several of the tunes at tearaway tempos. His purity of touch can be heard right at the beginning of the first track, which he introduces in near-classical style, before Sam Jones plays a faultless solo on double bass. When Oscar takes his solo, the first signs appear of the one fault of this album: a fuzzy recording quality which at times becomes almost clangorous". (Tony Augarde)

Of course, the cd issued in 1993 as The Vienna Concert, was taken from this radio broadcast.

Oscar Peterson - Live In '63, '64 & '65 (2008)

The Oscar Peterson Trio in the sixties with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen was not only Oscar's best trio ever, it was also the best jazz trio ever. There was complete integration, there was total devotion and a closeness that was unsurpassed in jazz. These recordings capture that trio in three concerts. (A.P. Van Kampen)

Oscar Peterson - With The Bassists At Montreux (1977)

Before released as a cd, this concert has been captured for TV. Pianist Oscar Peterson is teamed in an unusual trio with both Ray Brown and Niels Pedersen on basses. Peterson allows both of his sidemen plenty of solo space, permitting listeners to compare the large tone of Brown with the speedy fingers of Pedersen.

Oscar Peterson - On Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz (1998)

Oscar Peterson was one of the giants of jazz piano. Fast fingers and a hardwired sense of swing defined Peterson and made him a favorite musical partner for everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Herbie Hancock. Peterson (August 15, 1925 – December 23, 2007) would have been 89 this year (2014). On this program from 1998, Peterson demonstrates his amazing technique on his "Love Ballad" before joining host Marian McPartland on Duke Ellington's "In A Mellow Tone."Originally recorded Nov. 9, 1997, broadcast April 4, 1998.
