Kristian Jorgensen Quartet - Meeting Monty (2003)

It's a well known fact that Kristian Jørgensen belongs to the world elite among the small, select group of musicians who have chosen the jazz violin as their instrument. Monty Alexander didn't hesitate when he was asked to participate on Kristian Jørgensen's new cd. Alexander is, aswell as Jørgensen, a unique musician. He floats and is grounded at the same time. And more than once his virtuosity and swing feeling have resulted in his being compared to Oscar Peterson. It was a happy and harmonious meeting, where Monty Alexander takes the place of a natural member of the already well-functioning Jørgensen organisation.

Monty Alexander Trio - Jazz Mecca Festival (1990)

Maastricht Holland
November 04, 1990

Notes from the original uploader:
"In 1990 I worked as a lightning-engineer at the Jazz Mecca Festival in Maastricht Holland. I operated the house lights and stage lights in Auditorium 1 from a control room. In order to hear the performance, a Philips-Sound-Mixer was placed in the control room where a cable from the FOH-mixer was connected. Sound mixers are relatively inexpensive devices that were very popular in the 80's as karaoke machines. The recording quality of these devices is rather mediocre. The automatic internal limiter is set too hard and it often eliminates the sound completely. Nevertheless, I have this wonderful and unique recording that were never shared before." Great thanks to him!

Monty Alexander - Ruckus In San Antonio / The Confiscated Tapes (2008)

Dutch import
Recorded in 1981
Released 28/02/2008

Monty Alexander long ago combined together the influence of Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Wynton Kelly, Ahmad Jamal with the soul of Gene Harris and Nat "King" Cole to form his own appealing and personable style. Long a bit underrated (due to the shadow of Peterson), Alexander has recorded more than a score of excellent albums... With the recording of a pair of Pacific Jazz albums in 1965, an RCA date in 1967, and a Verve session in 1969, Alexander began to gain a strong reputation. His series of exciting albums for MPS during 1971-1977 found him in prime form, and his recordings in the '80s, '90s, and 2000s found him building on his original style.

You've never heard Monty playing like this before. The craziest concert in all memories...

Milt Jackson Quintet (feat Monty Alexander) - That's The Way It Is (1970)

Monty Alexander discovered the piano at the age of 4, taking classical music lessons at 6 and became interested in jazz piano at the age of 14, and began playing in clubs, and on recording sessions by Clue J & His Blues Blasters, deputising for Aubrey Adams, who he describes as his hero, when he was unable to play. Two years later, he directed a dance orchestra (Monty and the Cyclones) and played in the local clubs. Performances at the Carib Theater in Jamaica by Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole left a strong impression on the young pianist. Monty Alexander long ago combined together the influence of Oscar Peterson with the soul of Gene Harris and Nat "King" Cole to form his own appealing and personable style. Long a bit underrated (due to the shadow of Peterson), Alexander has recorded more than a score of excellent albums.
