Eldar Djangirov Trio - Topeka Kansas USA (2014)

Eldar Djangirov, introduced to Topeka audiences in 1999 as a 12-year-old-piano-playing-wunderkind, returned on June 22 to demonstrate how he has matured into a Grammy-nominated professional musician. The trio includes Topeka-born drummer Todd Strait, who now lives in Portland, and New York City-based bassist Mike Pope. Dave Brubeck, the dean of jazz piano, called Djangirov “a genius.” The New York Times described him as “an ebullient impressionist.” He has charted on Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums sales roster and performed around the world. The 27-year-old currently is based in New York City.

Japan exclusive release from the bop-based jazz pianist, If Dreams Come True features the cool jazz stylings of the Eddie Higgins Trio with Jay Leonhart and Joe Ascione. Higgins, who passed away in 2009, was at playing melodies with swing-like feeling. His melodies had groove and swing-feeling without being too superfluous. Such swing-feeling of Eddie Higgins was also often compared to those of Oscar Peterson and Nat King Cole.

Keith Jarrett continues touring with Peacock and DeJohnette and this time for a short tour in Asia with 6 shows in Japan and Seoul. The first stop was at the Orchard Hall in Tokyo the 6th and the 9th. On the 12th, the band moved to Osaka to play at the Osaka Festival Hall to come back on the 15th to the Orchard Hall in Tokyo. The last stop was at the Sejong Center in Seoul on the 19th.

As if that was not enough contrast already, Aziza Mustafa Zadeh mixes in Jazz - a lot of Jazz - and Mugam music from her Azerbaijani hometown of Baku. Aziza Mustafa Zadeh is a pianist. She is a pianist like her father, the acclaimed jazz-pianist and composer Vagif Mustafa Zadeh, who passed away much too early in 1979. Aziza Mustafa Zadeh is a singer. She is a singer like her mother Eliza Mustafa Zadeh, her mentor and constant companion. Songs come from Aziza first release (1991), Oper Leipzig 1 & 2, Shamans, Colors & Reflections, Jazzira, Dance Of Fire, Contrasts 1 and 2 and demonstrate the evolution of the artist from 1991 to 2007.
