11/52 Bite Sized Books

Hi

This week's book was a lot of fun to make....

I sewed a piece of spotted paper on to the front cover & doodled simple lines around the spots to make it more interesting.. I didn't intend to colour it but as the colours of the book took shape I felt it needed a bit of colour...

I've been doodling in one of my junk journals recently & one of things I'm really enjoying doing is drawing circles around a feature image to highlight it... so thats how these little scenes came about - they look like scenes from a desert at sunrise/sunset.

I've photographed these two pages together because, even though they look completely different they are the same piece of paper... pale spots on a beige background... on the left hand page I sketched small flowers and stems and on the right hand page I drew line & added colour.. I love how different they look!

This book was made during MS Awareness Week, & as I've had Relapsing Remitting MS for the last 25+ years I thought it was important to acknowledge it some way...
I've been very 'lucky' with my MS & after receiving treatment I'm able to lead my life relapse & symptom free...

10/52 Bite Sized Books

Hello

This book bring me up to date with blogging my mini books... week 10 of the #52bitesizedbooks.

I used one of my favourite stencils on the cover - I didn't use additional layers as I've done on the previous covers because I wanted to see the embossed pattern.

There's lots of die cuts in this book - a chance to use new dies - they look different when you're only using little parts of a bigger design.

My new stamps include rainbows/arches - great for layering up to create interesting patterns and assembled pieces.

Cute little Tim Holtz paper doll...

Ha, I totally agree with this phrase from PaperArtsy Hot Pick 16/05.. the Hot Picks stamp plates are always full interesting little motifs and phrases.

04/52 Bite-sized books...

 Hi

I've just about settled into a routine of making and uploading my #52bitesizedbooks.

This week's book has a few die-cuts. To create a quote I die cut letters from pieces of coloured card stock and used the panels on one spread ....

and then used the die cut letters on a second page - it was its own sort of anagram - very happy accident!

'Talk less, smile more' is a line from the Hamilton musical - I LOVE that show and the line is such good advice... and each time I read it I find myself singing the following line which is 'don't let them know what you're against or what you're for...' and yes, I've watched Hamilton so many times that I can quote the lyrics.. lol ... thanks to Disney+ (I've also seen Hamilton on stage - a clever, brilliant piece of theatre - I thoroughly recommend it)

Some JOFY stamps made their way into this book to - a christmas star and a quote.... well, it would be rude not to use my own stamps wouldn't it!

Here is 4/52....

02/52 Bite-sized books...

Hello

I'm really enjoying making these little books - I've had to stop myself finishing more than one a week!
I'm making little videos of each of them for the blog - these are going to be quite quick - less than 2 minutes (lol there are only 6 pages to show you!)  accompanied by a nice soothing soundtrack... I was going to delete the noise of the pages turning but I actually quite liked that sound so I've kept it on... its a nice way to show the details (Instagram Reels only allows 15 seconds!!).

If you have any questions pop them in the comments.

aaanyhoo - here is book 2/52

01/52 Bite-sized books... or snack-sized signatures....

Well hello!!

Happy New Year!!!

New year, new project....

52 little books - these photos show the 35 I've made so far, I thought I'd give myself a headstart and get a feel for the project.

Each book measures approximately 2.5inches square-ish - give or take 1/2inch or so - made up of the bits and pieces that I can't seem to throw away because:

* they're interesting
* "aaw I loved this paper and don't want to throw it away"
* it looks useful
* I'd die cut extras
* I like a challenge

These 'books' - more like pamphlets really - are made of 3 pieces of paper/card (may or may not be accurately measured/folded - I'm embracing imperfection) folded in half and stapled in the middle... keeping it simple.

52 books - one for each week of the year... they are the signatures that will build up to be a book - not sure how I'll bind them together - that's a decision for further on in the project... very much depends on how big the project gets...

This will be a lovely project to work on through the year - giving a home to all the little bits and pieces that end up on my desk... and one a week is very achievable. Their size makes them easy to work on when I have a spare five minutes or need to find a home for the previously mentioned 'bits and pieces'.

Here's 1/52....

Christmas Alphabet

Hi

During December I made a 'Christmas Alphabet' book.   This was an idea I had stemming my alphabet game (when I can't sleep I pick a subject and find things to do with that subject for every letter of the alphabet (I may have mentioned this before) (eg:  countries: Albania, Belgium, Canada, Denmark etc etc etc you get the idea).  Then I heard a song by Dickie Valentine called the 'Christmas Alphabet' that is THE most retro, heartwarming christmas song I've heard in a while - it topped the Christmas music charts in 1955 (way before my time! lol) - look it up - its totally charming - I warn you though - its an earworm. I apologise in advance.

I made this book (5x7inches) as a way of working on a Christmas project without actually documenting christmas.  I got as far as 19 letters which I think is pretty good!  I stopped because I set a time limit - not because I couldn't think of anything to do with certain letters - though Q was, and still is, a bit tricky! (so if you think of something please let me know, add it to the comments.  Thanks!)

I posted all the pages on Instagram but I wanted to put them on my blog too - so here it is - my Chritsmas Alphabet!
A: Angel

B: Baubles

C: Candles

D: Donkey, Decorations,..... ??

E:  Elf

F: Father Christmas

G: Gift

H: Holly

I: Ice Skating

J: Jingle, Jolly (I was struggling with this letter and then DH said 'er, how about Jesus?!' Oh my goodness how could I have forgotten the main reason for christmas!  Shamed, straight onto the naughty list.)

K: Kings ('we three kings of orient are....')

L: ??

M:  Mittens, Mistletoe, Mincepie

N: Naughty or Nice

O: Ornaments

P: Poinsettia

Q: ???

R: Reindeer/Rudolph

S: Snow

T: Tree

U:  Us (yes, I was stretching the christmas theme with this one but due to Covid restrictions (we're in Tier 4) it was just the two of us this christmas so I felt it was justified.

V: ???

W: Wreath

X: Xmas

Y: Yule log

Z:  was going to be lots of little Zs to illustrate sleeping - inspired by 'twas the night before christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse....'
