Winter Blues Tiddly Inks Challenge

Tuesday, December 9, 2014

Got the winter blues? Well, why not channel that into a fun challenge--Tiddly Inks Happy Winter Blues Challenge!
The Faythe Gives image I used on this card was so much fun to color with my Copics. I loved adding all the lumps in her sack and the folds and gathers in her dress and hat, and it's always challenging, in a good way, of course, to use non-traditional colors at Christmastime. Can you see the 3-D fur on her hat and dress? I used my Snow Marker there. That stuff is fantastic!
The inside of the card has a simple sentiment and several circular layers. I like to have sparkle somewhere on my cards when I can work it in, so I added Diamond Stickles to the white snowflake layer, and colored the little ornament stamp with silver and gold Wink of Stella markers.

Make sure you check out the rest of the DT's happy work, then grab something blue and link up your own creation to the Winter Blues challenge! This is the last Tiddly Inks challenge of 2014, so if you miss it, you'll have to wait until January for the next one! ;)

Thanks for stopping by, and have a Happy Winter day!

Hey Lady!

Hello Friends! I'm heading out to the grocery store, so this will be short and sweet. The Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge #163 this week is to create a birthday card. What great timing--I needed a birthday card for a friend next week! I went with a vintage look so I could join in the fun at Crafty Friends Challenges, a brand new challenge hosted by Beate Johns. If you haven't seen her work, be sure to check out her personal blog, Fresh & Fun. I assure you, you will be Wowed! She's also assembled a super crafty DT. I can't wait to see the projects they have in store for us!

For this card, I used the Deconstructed Sketch #46 for my layout.

And the color palette of CR84FN51.
And, here's what I came up with:
It's hard to see in the photo, but the layer behind the flowers is actually white card stock that was stamped with a floral background stamp in light blue.

This is my first time to use the dress form image, but it certainly won't be my last. I colored the pearl necklack with a pink Copic and the one hanging from the belt with a yellow Copic. Stickles are used on the chains, the "jewels" hanging from the belt, and also on the belt buckle.

And, on the inside:

I used the same floral background stamp on the inside that I did on the white panel on the front of the card. If you click on the photo, I think you'll be able to see it. It's actually a really pretty stamp.

I'll be entering this card in the following challenges:
Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge #163
Crafty Friends Challenge #1: Vintage
Deconstructed Sketch #46
CR84FN51: Pink, Peach, Light Blue

And, that's it for me today. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend and a Happy, Happy Easter!

Humble Pumpkin

Wizard of Oz Scarecrow Display, 2008
Hello Friends! Fall is almost here. You can feel it in the air. But, another way to know it's fall around here? Outdoor decor--hay bales, corn stalks, pumpkins, and scarecrows. I live in the Scarecrow Capital of the World--seriously, it's an official record--and every September, residents in our little town set out scarecrows by the thousands. It's quite a sight to see. On the way to my daughter's school this morning, we saw our first scarecrows of this year--three or four motorcycle-riding scarecrows in someone's front yard. Very safety-conscious scarecrows, I might add. I believe they were all wearing helmets. Pretty soon, nary a crow will be found in this town. *~D  Fall may not be here officially for two more days, but as far as I'm concerned, it's here now.

Every fall, my daughter loves to go to a big pumpkin patch and pick out a pumpkin to carve. A few years ago, she fell in love with this teeny little pumpkin. It was all she wanted. Now just look at that sweet face. How could we resist? ;) So we got it (and the big pumpkin, too). I think she kept it until it rotted. I love this picture of her.

So, for my card today, I'm using a simple fall image. The humble pumpkin.

Inside

The sketch is the Deconstructed Sketch No. 19. For some reason, when I was putting the different papers together for this card, I kept thinking I needed some light blue. I tried everything, but nothing felt right, so I ended up just coloring the water under the pumpkin blue, using a light blue and brown ribbon, and I put light blue Liquid Pearls in the corners of the card. I really like these colors together. You may see another card with this color combo in the near future. ;)

One more thing. If you like pumpkin bread (and even if you don't, give it a try--it's delicious), I've got a fabulous, super-simple fall recipe. For extra deliciousness, spread cream cheese icing on a slice!

Well, that's it for now. Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Fall, Y'all!
