Thanks to Bozo for this tape.  Once you get used to listening to this from inside one of the basses it's ok.  The saxes are a little on the quiet side but this is a stupendous grouping with some fabulous playing. Pretty wild (no township).  Something happens (?) at 33:05 so I put a track break in.

PIERRE FAVRE QUARTETT "PIERRE FAVRE QUARTETT" (WERGO, 1969)

Have the LP since several years. Plus I got a rip from a friend years before I found the vinyl.
The sound of the rip seemed to be really OK. But it had a lot of nasty scratches which caused many clicks and some pops. Tried to remove as many as possible. (cover from the www)

Especially great to my recent listening experience is the bass of PK - but it is all along a classic.
All four musicians still young and at the beginning of their considerable musical achievements.

INTERNATIONAL HOLY HILL JAZZ MEETING (1969)

This Double-LP was never approved by the musicians - it is in fact a bootleg.
The sound quality is appropriate - there's a mighty performance by the Brötzmann Octet, modern Jazz by Joki Freund, a short solo by Marion Brown, Rolf Kühn playing an electric clarinet and some more rare recordings from the end 60's...

The lady below was not on the schedule for the festival - but it was held nevertheless at this open-air theatre...

BORN FREE (SCOUT, 1970 - a partial compilation)

Here's my third compilation - made from parts of this 3 LP release.
At least one track was reissued (completely) on CD: Peter Brötzmann's "Fuck de Boere".

The track from the Modern Jazz Quintet Karlsruhe is also an excerpt - I shall post a longer version of it's title and more here on IS.

The track from the European Free Jazz Orchestra & AACM (broadcast) was posted in blogland some time ago.

For a complete rip (mp3-128) you can go to > http://schnickschnackmixmax.blogspot.com/2011/03/born-free-jazz-festival-frankfurt-marz.html

The quality of the LP's sound is not the best - like a good bootleg - as far as I know it IS a bootleg.
Released without the permission/knowledge of the musicians.

All in all a really interesting LP with some rare recordings - for example an early example of Günter Christmann - before his groundbreaking duo with Detlev Schönenberg.

I removed some heavy clicks and pops - that's all.

Enjoy!

Masahiko Sato,Peter Warren, Pierre Favre-'trinity' 1971 enja

Heres a wonderful record , following on from Onxdlibs, incredible share of Masahiko Togashi's speed space also Featuring M.Sato.

This was the 5th release on the Fledgling ENJA label ,who back then were among the few independent s putting out challenging material , in a totally free vein.

This is the sort of gig that a label like Intakt would now put out.
2 side long Totally free improvisations rooted in the traditions of jazz language , and the Darmstadt Avant guard of the day.

Sato's subtle use of ring modulator , is very reminiscent of the sound effects on Alois Kontarskys piano , on the original recording of Stockhausen's Mantra.
All three Musicians are still active as far as i know , though both Sato and Warren have since the 70's focused more on making modern mainstream Jazz orientated recordings.

Pierre Favre continues as an occasional free improviser , composer and band leader in rewardingly challenging territory.
A lot of his current projects can be found on the aforementioned Intakt label ,which he co founded with Irene Schweizer.

Given that this record did the rounds a few years ago as mp'3s , I'll stick to the Flacs
PS .. this rip is taken from a first pressing , and has been well loved , i've done very little by way of cleaning , very light crackle sweep& in some places removal; of a few 'objects'..
I and i'm sure many others would welcome a remastered cd edition of, this great lp.
