BJÖRN J:SON LiNDH - Ramadan (1971)

First album by Swedish composer, pianist and flute player. A kind of fusion with Indian ethno influences, including Bobo Stenson on electric piano, and Palle Danielsson on bass on one track.

TOMASZ STANKO / BOBO STENSON / ANDERS JORMiN / TONY OXLEY - Bosonossa and Other Ballads (Gowi 1993)

Great version of Stańko Quartet, which recorded albums Matka Joanna and Leosia. This collection on Polish label Gowi preceeded them, and songs 3 and 4 were recorded again at Rainbow Studio for ECM. Bosonossa is out of print for long years - I remember Czech distributor for Gowi telling me when I saw empty jewel box with cover in his shop that the master was lost and cd will not be re-pressed. Radio broadcast with this line-up from 1996 was posted earlier by Andy an can be found here. Enjoy.

George Russell + RAI Big Band - Live in Rome '80

"how much significant music was sponsored and broadcast in Western
Europe...in the 60's and 70's ( and still)"

from the previous post by Spazz numbNuts.

In this case the Italian RAI was the co-producer of a series of 11 events
involving many great composers/arrangers and its own Orchestra
(the now defunct RAI Big Band).
See the complete program by clicking on the image above.

Re-listening to this concert, i've remembered a J.E.Berendt's article
(about the 60's Big Bands) concluding with a question :
"will ever return the Big Bands?"

Rec. live at Quercia del Tasso in Rome on June 6, 1980.

Jan Garbarek and Bobo Stenson Trio - Live Bremen 1974 (FM broadcast)

Personally, I'm not a fan of Garbarek's later ECM work, where he seems to have jumped all sorts on band wagons (and made himself very successful). I did like the stuff he did in the 70s with Keith Jarrett. This recording comes from the same era.
Details:

Jan Garbarek.....ts
Bobo Stenson.....p
Palle Danielsson.....b
Jon Christensen.....dr

1) Desireless (Don Cherry) 30:28

3) Witchi-Tai-To (Jim Pepper) 26:50
4) Passion Dance (McCoy Tyner) 10:55

Good though Garbarek is on this recording, the stars of the show for me are the members of the rhythm section. Desireless gives more than a nod towards Coltrane. Initially I thought that Stenson was merely doing a Tyler soundalike routine, but he develops the piece into much more (though at over 30 mins, the track is a little long, Danielsson must have had the stamina of an olympic athlete to sustain the relentless pace).

JUST A WORD ABOUT ETTIQUETTE.
The majority of you are not observing the basic rules of polite behaviour. Did your parents not teach you that it is ill-mannered to take without so much as a word of thanks? My last posting was downloaded by nearly 100 people. Only 3 of you had the courtesy to leave a comment. I know sometimes it's easy to forget to leave a note once in a while, but my guess is that many of you never leave a comment. Frankly I'm not willing to carry on posting material to be met with dumb silence.
