BORN FREE (SCOUT, 1970 - a partial compilation)

Here's my third compilation - made from parts of this 3 LP release.
At least one track was reissued (completely) on CD: Peter Brötzmann's "Fuck de Boere".

The track from the Modern Jazz Quintet Karlsruhe is also an excerpt - I shall post a longer version of it's title and more here on IS.

The track from the European Free Jazz Orchestra & AACM (broadcast) was posted in blogland some time ago.

For a complete rip (mp3-128) you can go to > http://schnickschnackmixmax.blogspot.com/2011/03/born-free-jazz-festival-frankfurt-marz.html

The quality of the LP's sound is not the best - like a good bootleg - as far as I know it IS a bootleg.
Released without the permission/knowledge of the musicians.

All in all a really interesting LP with some rare recordings - for example an early example of Günter Christmann - before his groundbreaking duo with Detlev Schönenberg.

I removed some heavy clicks and pops - that's all.

Enjoy!

MICHAEL SELL CONTEMPORARY MUSIC ENSEMBLE "INNOVATIONEN für 10 Instrumente" MISP Records 1980

Here is - at last - Michael Sell. For more information about him see the post with "Free Jazz Group Wiesbaden".
Please note : there is obviously a bug on the cover. Namek Aclan is a tuba player - alas he's not listed on the back-cover. But apparently he does play on the album. See also the comment from October 7, 2015.
(Frank Köllges does play during the whole album and not as I have written in the info file only on one piece - sorry.)
Michael Sell has still some older LPs and CDs - not to mention he more recent output.
You can get them here > http://www.michael-sell.de/cd.html
My favourite LPs are "Jugoslawische Quartette" with Buschi Niebergall and the double LP
"Emanationen" with its extended piece(s).

Enjoy and support the artists as long as they live!

FREE JAZZ GROUP WIESBADEN "FRICTIONS" & DIETER SCHERF QUARTET "INTERACTION" (FLAC)

Before posting more from Herbert Joos I'd like to share two lps from and
with Dieter Scherf.
The Free Jazz Group Wiesbaden were
a collaborative combo from Michael Sell, Scherf, König and Schlick.
Sell studied politics and chemistry and
Scherf was an engineer.
Sell and Scherf provided the thematic
material for this group which lasted from 1969 to 1972.
But especially the guitarist König provides an original voice to the proceedings. Playing virtual multifunctional with a distinct
sensibility for sound and great imagination.
FJGW disbanded 1973. Scherf continued for a while mainly in a trio with Paul Lovens and Jacek Bednarek.

(The music from this trio was reissued on Atavistic : http://www.atavistic.com/catalog.php?cs=2&at=1 . Buy it! You won't be disappointed.)

Later Scherf devoted himself more and more to his profession as engineer.
Michael Sell should become one of the more distinguished composers of european Jazz Avantgarde. Although his affinity to Jazz was questioned not only by himself. Wether this is correct we can hear by ourselves during the next weeks. (I plan to share some recordings under Sell's name as well). Today he does not play trumpet anymore.

Dieter Scherf has, to my knowledge, forsaken music. (Update 2014 - he continued to play piano albeit in a more mainstream setting) What became of König and Schlick I do not know. About the lp "Interaction" I assume that it is one of his last projects. I got it as a gift without any information.

Literature about these musicians is sparse and mostly out of print. But I would like to mention at least one book. "Europas Jazz 1960 - 80" from Ekkehard Jost (a sax player alike) is the "bible" of european Free Jazz. Sadly it is only in German.

Through this book I became aware that there is a distinct european Jazz scene.
