“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”  2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV21)

I don’t know about you, but for me, the news this week has been scary and depressing. It is sad seeing how fractured our country has become, full of hate, spite and venom. It is so easy to lose sight of God and slip into fear when I am watching racial tension, ISIS killings, Zika virus, and the list can go on, but you get the idea. So, I had to take some time with this verse and pray for the Holy Spirit to get me past this fear and fill me with power, love and a sound mind. I am going to focus on what I can do and that is enjoy life and treat people with kindness. It is time to stop living in fear of things that may never happen!

BIBLE JOURNAL #24

Hello blogging friends! here is my Bible Journal for this week:

3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. ”  James 1: 3-4 (NIV)

The ESV uses the word steadfastness instead of perseverance, but for me, perseverance feels like a better word since it means “determination in doing something despite the difficulty”.  It is a word that stays in my mind a lot and if I every have grandchildren, that is one word I will teach them! I hope, and believe I was able to teach our children perseverance. Upon reading this verse, I realized that trials in life just help me grow my perseverance and therefore my faith matures. What a wonderful message, at least to me. It helps me when things get tough.

This drawing is done with a Micron pen and Copic markers.  Since I was planning to use the markers, I added a strip of cardstock to the page so it would not soak through.

BIBLE JOURNAL #23

Hello blogging friends! here is my Bible Journal for this week:

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart..”  Psalm 91:4 (NIV)

I guess you can tell from all of my journals that I love the book of Psalm. This verse is one I go to when I feel the need for comfort. It always brings me peace and comfort.

If you have been following me for any time, you know I am new to art. I have never done angel wings, so for a first, I think they came out ok. I hope you love this verse as much as I do!!!!

This drawing is done with a Micron pen and  graphite pencils.

BIBLE JOURNAL #21

Hello blogging friends! here is my Bible Journal for this week:

“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”  Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NIV)

Time has been on my mind lately; it seems to go so fast! I spent some time last week studying Ecclesiastes and this verse stuck with me. I know I am taking it out of context, but it reminds me that time may seem like it is moving fast, but to God, time is eternal, everlasting, infinity! That is what we have to look forward to with Him! So, no need to worry about time today…..there is an eternity ahead!

This drawing is done with a Micron pen and Prismacolor  and graphite pencils.

BIBLE JOURNAL #20

Hello blogging friends! here is my Bible Journal for this week:

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 NIV)

I have always loved this verse. It always brings me peace and comfort knowing that Jesus died for me, and he leads me through life. I believe in this verse is Jesus saying, “Trust me. Just put your trust in me and I will show you the way.” It brings me back to my word of the year – ABIDE. Abide in Jesus and he will show you the way. Thank goodness I don’t have to know everything, or be able to answer all questions! Jesus is there to help me when I stumble or get confused!

This drawing is done with a Micron pen and Copic markers.

BIBLE JOURNAL #19

Hello blogging friends! here is my Bible Journal for this week:

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” (Proverbs 31:25-30 ESV)

Mom is 83 now and I am so thankful for every day we have with her. She is a Christian and this passage makes me think of her and all she has done for us. I was blessed to spend a couple of days with her over the weekend. I just wish we lived closer to each other!

Hello blogging friends! here is my Bible Journal for this week:

“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” (Psalm 103:1 KJV)

This week I decided to use a beautiful  stamp from Verve Stamps “Good Work” set. Then I used Zentangle patterns to decorate the page. The patterns I used are Knights Bridge, Phicops, Fescu, Puf Leaf and a variation on Shasta.

BIBLE JOURNAL #17

Hello blogging friends! here is my Bible Journal for this week:

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

(Matthew 6:26 – 37 NIV)

I am participating in a Bible Study about drawing nearer to God and this verse came to mind. Sometimes I think it is hard to get closer to God because I feel like He has more important things to worry about. Or I think, He must be so busy and this thing on my mind is really insignificant.

I love this verse (really the entire passage) because it comforts me and reminds me that I am of value to God. He will take care of my needs if I just let go and trust.

I know that doesn’t mean to just stop taking care of myself! But it does help me not be such a worry-wart! I was such a worrier earlier in life but this has taught me to stop and consider what I am worrying about. Fix it if I can, and if I cannot, put it in God’s hands and have FAITH that He will handle it as He sees fit.

BIBLE JOURNAL #16

Hello blogging friends! I got really behind and missed getting this ready for this past Sunday, so here is my Bible Journal for this week:

He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10: 27-37 NIV)

Do you ever watch the so called “news” and wonder if the entire world has gone crazy? Thoughts of mercy, compassion, love and kindness seem to be a thing of the past. But, Jesus said if we love our neighbor as ourselves, we will live! This is a verse that most of us learn very early in life because it is a valuable lesson, but we seem to forget it as we get older. So my challenge this week is to do something for someone who does not expect it. Just imagine one week of people being kind to each other!

BIBLE JOURNAL #15

Hello blogging friends! Here is my Bible Journal for this week:

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.. ” Romans 12:2 (ESV)

Transformed. That word made me stop and think. To be transformed is to be completely changed into something new; totally new. So to be transformed through the renewal of your mind tells me we have to totally change the way we think, the way we perceive things and the way we talk to God. That is a lot for me to wrap my mind around, and probably the biggest thing I try to accomplish. I used the tangle patterns to try to represent the transformation into something new. I think it works….maybe?

BIBLE JOURNAL #14

Hello blogging friends! Here is my Bible Journal for this week:

Do everything in love. ” 1 Corinthians 16:14 (NIV)

I have been thinking a lot about all that is going on in the world these days. The news is always filled with so much hatred and callousness, it made me start thinking of when I was young and people treated each other with respect, love and dignity. This verse stood out in my mind and has become my daily prayer.
The Zentangle pattern I used is Luv-A and the large heart was inspired by Joanne Fink’s Zenspiration dangles.

BIBLE JOURNAL #13

Hello blogging friends and Happy Easter! Here is my Bible Journal for this week:

“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay..” Matthew 28:6 (NIV)

Easter is such a wonderful time to me. I love the peace of knowing Jesus arose and is my Lord and Savior. Since it is Easter, I chose Matthew 28:6 and drew a Zentangle cross with dangles. I used colored pencils to color it.  I hope you have a fantastic Easter and are blessed with a day of peace.

BIBLE JOURNAL #12

Hello blogging friends!  What a glorious week we have had here in NC! Well, we did have some terrible storms, but the days have been beautiful. Any way, getting on with this post, I love this verse and wanted to share it with you this week:

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

Since I am now retired, I find I finally have time to explore things I have always wanted to do. I never felt I could draw. As recently as Christmas, I was telling my friend I cannot draw. Well, I started my Bible journal and started seeing such beautiful drawings. I became interested in Zentangle and I believe God led me to this art form to use in my journal! I hope to look back at the end of the year and see my growth in God and art. Have a great day!

BIBLE JOURNAL 11

Hello blogging friends!  This week, I am back with another Bible journal entry.

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life..” Psalms 143:8 (NIV)

This one did not turn out like I wanted it to. I used a beautiful stamp set from Verve called Good Work and heat embossed the verse in white. I planned to air brush around it to make it show up, but I just could not get it right. I finally used pencils to try to make it dark enough to read. So this is a lesson in what NOT to do!! LOL. Have a great day!

BIBLE JOURNAL #9

Hello blogging friends!  This week, I am back to a more traditional Bible journal entry.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.” Proverbs 21:2 (ESV)

This verse holds so much truth. How many times have I been convinced that I was doing what is right and just kept doing it without any thought about what God wants? Too many too count! This verse reminds me that no matter what I think is wright, or wrong, I need to make sure I am doing what God wants me to do. We all know this, but we get caught up in life and forget to slow down and talk to God. Every day, I see more and more why my Word for 2016 is “abide”!

BIBLE JOURNAL 8

Hello blogging friends!  This week, I am back to a more traditional Bible journal entry.

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up..” Galatians 6:9 (ESV))

The text is hand lettered and the flowers are hand drawn. I used colored pencils to color them (I love my Copics but they bleed through). In additional to working on hand lettering and Zentangle, I found some great how-to art videos. I used some of what I have learned to draw the flowers.
