Fabio Orsi - Stand Up Before Me, Oh My Soul! (Preservation, 2010) avalaible for pre-order!!!

The Preservation label presents Stand Up Before Me, Oh My Soul! from Italy’s Fabio Orsi.

Fabio’s prolific output has had him heralded as a master of modern ambience, creating rich, freeform atmospheres with organic instrumentation and processed sounds. Though known for momentous pieces of hypnotic power, this work marks a dynamic new turn in Fabio’s sound. The force of his composition takes more of an overt stance on Stand Up Before Me, Oh My Soul!. The raw and primal pulse at the heart of his music is writ large here with a punk mindset, unleashing a heady mass of guitars against a backdrop of cavernous, shimmering distortion and crashing drums. (courtesy of Rich Baker, who also performs regularly with Nadja’s Aidan Baker) It also boasts a bristling sense of lysergic, hazy melody.

Brutal and glimmering, dark and beautiful, Stand Up Before Me, Oh My Soul! drops loud and large in pursuit of pure dissonant bliss.

Stand Up Before Me, Oh My Soul! is the first in a new limited edition CD series from Preservation called Circa. 300 copies only will be available of each release in the series and each will feature a design by Mark Gowing. Each design will be realised using a specially created abstract alphabet of shapes, determined by artist, title and catalogue number for something both fixed and random.

Fabio Orsi & Valerio Cosi - We Could For Hours (A Silent Place, 2008)

1 We Could For Hours (Part One)
2 Cold Fusion (In Our Fingers)
3 Pink Sheep Blood
4 We Could For Hours (Part Two)

Fabio Orsi et Valerio Cosi associés pour créer un album tout en drones désolés...

We Could For Hours is instability. It represents the will to open the gates of unknown. It is the dark, whispered sounds and hidden truths. Chaos. And now here it starts, everything takes form, sensations rise, objects acquire colours, distorted vision but still a vision of reality. Everything dances and follows the rhythm of music, an unknown tribal dance. Silence. Sounds follow themselves but always hidden in a veil of mistery, words are mute, everything is listening attentively to the enchanting melody of nature. Mind, free from human limits, goes straight towards a long journey and meets the supernatural and then sinks into the knowledge oblivion. Everything is nothing. Nothing is the time. Time becomes memory and memory brings us to happy thoughts that rise first, then fall in the end. Hallucinations. The precariousness feeling is overwhelming us, tollings of a clock without hands are molesting our ears and they scan the slow and endless flowing of life. Too late to be back. There's no possibility. We have to live desolate countrysides burnt by an August sun. Lysergic vision. Void.

Fabio Orsi - Faded on the Blowing of Winter (Akoustic Desease, 2007)

01 Faded on the Blowing of Winter - Part One
02 Faded on the Blowing of Winter - Part Two

Drones méditatifs...

Two pieces make ‘Faded on the Blowing of Winter’ by Fabio Orsi. Both simple, 10 minute drone meditations, the first builds upon layers: repeating layers of dull bass drone enhanced with a few taps of wooded percussion, loops of bells or guitar notes bent like bells weaving between the beats, a high harmonium note. The lot drops off as an overwhelming organ drone sears through, carrying layers of its own. The second track is made of warmer bits, drones like synthesized strings and extended passages of guitar recalling the first long-player by Growing. Besides Orsi’s own fame, further comparisons can be drawn to the works of Seht, Flying Saucer Attack, and Labradford for atmosphere and intense sense of depth. White label/red-black bottom CDr comes in a hand-made gatefold of heavy paper and color photography, very nicely done.

Fabio Orsi / My Cat Is An Alien - For Alan Lomax (A Silent Place, 2006)

1 Fabio Orsi - Spring No More And Love Come In The Wind (38:46)
2 My Cat Is An Alien - Heart Of The Eart H (27:49)

Disque dédié à la mémoire d'Alan Lomax et première apparition de Fabio Orsi sur un vinyl, si je ne m'abuse...

Dedicated the legendary collector of folk music Alan Lomax comes this latest release from the incredibly prolific Italian brothers Roberto and Maurizio Opalio aka My Cat is an Alien. This time around the bring fellow Italian experimental type Fabio Orsi along for the ride, who kicks the disc off with a 40 minute slice of utterly breathtaking ambience. Using field recordings, guitars, a piano and the wind itself, Orsi structures a piece of crystalline beauty, embedding the themes of collected worldwide folk music beneath a mire of harmony and emotion. I rarely expect to be greeted by this kind of unashamed reverence within a MCIAA project, but I must say it’s a pleasant surprise and I’m now intrigued to hear more by Fabio Orsi. As for the MCIAA piece which follows, this is a recording of one of their legendary live shows in which they distort the sounds of their guitars and ‘space toys’ to create a sound truly cosmic. Space travelling folk music if you like, and the ghost of their biggest influence Alan Lomax is omnipresent throughout. Unmistakably adventurous and another hypnotic drone-journey – recommended!

Fabio Orsi continue dans sa veine minimaliste pour nous servir presque deux heures de morceaux ambient particulièrement mélodiques....

Fabio Orsi (collaborator on last year's 'Wildflower's under the sofa') returns with a double disc effort that is at once a highly satisfying 2 hour entry in the ambient genre. Although LVD's catalog often leans toward noiser, less melodic works, Audio for lovers shows both the same modernistic and minimal sensibilities that we've heard from Fabio in the past, while also drawing on the earlier, atmospheric work by Eno, which is to say that the album does precisely what most of us would like out of an ambient work. The tracks are highly melodic and memorable, the nature of the music is experimental enough (at least in theory) that I think a lot of fans of the label will enjoy it, and most importantly, the environments created here will please just about everyone--this might even be the LVD release to please your non-LVD listening acquaintances. Purchase the soundtrack to your new life today!
