OMG, THE HORROR!!

So, I made a card. And it was one of those cards that I was actually quite pleased with when I was finished. And, the fact that the card was a birthday card for a crafty friend of mine and I was actually quite pleased with it made me more pleased. So pleased it fact that I had to resist the urge to post the card right away, just in case said crafty friend reads my blog. So, I waited until CF had received the card before I decided to post it.

Today I had a bit of time so I thought I'd just go right on ahead and post the card. And enter into some challenges, of course. I looked up the photo of the card, to remind myself of what challenges I had had in mind when I made it.....and that was when it hit me.

I HAD MADE A SPELLING MISTAKE ON THE CARD. And, not only had I made a spelling mistake on the card, I misspelled the word INTELLIGENCE. ('Coz the universe loves to have little giggling fits at my expense.) Well, I was mortified! I could literally feel my temperature start to rise and my cheeks turn red as I sat there and stared at the screen. And, in that instant, I started going through these ridiculous scenarios in my head about how I could possibly remedy the situation secretly, so that if CF ever looked at the card again she'd be all like, "Wait a minute.....I thought she'd spelled intelligence wrong. Hmmm....but there it is, correct. I must have been mistaken."

Yes, as I said, ridiculous. But that gives you an idea about how embarrassed I was over the whole thing. I contacted my CF to apologize, and she was lovely about the whole issue, of course. I promised her the next time I saw her it would be with a new panel for the card that corrected the misspelled word and begged her to fix it for me (or at least tell me she fixed it) so I could be at ease.

Then I went to my daughter's hockey game.

When I got back, and went to check my email, I saw the card still up on the screen. I was about to close it, as there was no way I was going to announce my awful mistake to the world, but the card made me pause. I still liked it, even with that misspelled word. Even though it said intellegence. (Which, I'll admit when I tilted my head a certain way appeared to have multiple arrows made out of bright lights hovering over it flashing madly while pointing at the mistake.) So, I decided I would go ahead and post it after all.

Then I went to my son's hockey game.

But, now I'm back, and I haven't changed my mind. So, finally, here it is, glaringly obvious mistake and all.....

You know, in hindsight, I remember when I made the card there was a little nudging feeling I got that something was off.  Never did put my finger on it, obviously.  But, now I'm guessing there was a little piece of my subconscious that is now dead because I didn't listen to it.  It can just image that lengths it went to too.  "Hey, that's spelled wrong.  Yo, you spelled intelligence wrong.  Wrong.  Don't make a layer for it, it's spelled wrong.  What are you doing?  It's spelled wrong!  Don't stick that down!  Don't you dare stick that on the card!  OMG, you put that spelling mistake on the card.  What's wrong with you?  It's okay, it's okay.  Just take it off.  Don't you put that in an envelope!  DON'T YOU DARE PUT THAT IN AN ENVELOPE!  GET THAT STAMP AWAY FROM THAT ENVELOPE!  YOU CAN'T LET ANYONE SEE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo"  *gasp* thunk.

And now I've shown the world.  Well, my itsy bitsy corner of it anyways.

  2. I am wiping the tears from my eyes! You made me laugh and laugh and laugh! What a wonderful writer...and what a darling card! I love the sentiment, and if you just put a dot over the e, it will look like a loopy "i." That's what I would do. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely card, and this hilarious bit of writing with me. Most fun blog post I've read all week! Hugs! Thanks for sharing this with us at Craft Hoarders Anonymous

  12. Wonderful card! And don't worry about spelling, if a card looks as great as yours, most people will not recognize.
On one of my older projects I used a stamp not noticing it says "Happy Brithday" instead of "Happy Birthday" ;D

  15. Jan, I always love reading your blog and this one gave me a chuckle. I can laugh only because I have been there myself. I can say if you hadn't pointed it out I am not sure I would have noticed the spelling. Gorgeous card mistake and all.

  16. You have made this old lady giggle out loud this morning! Honey, we have all done it in our time. I'm very capable of doing something much worse than spelling a word wrong. And seems like the older I get, the worse it is! I do love the sweet image and your coloring as well as all those layers. Thanks for joining us at Craft Hoarders Anonymous!

  21. That "wrong e" could have been dotted with a tiny gem and no one the wiser. I have PHOTOSHOPPED out a spelling mistake before rather than take a new photo! There, I said it! And I love this card, no matter what! It is adorable! Thanks for playing along with us at Craft Hoarders Anonymous!

  24. Ok first I must tell you, you are not alone. I made Thanksgiving cards one year and was mortified to realize I spelled the word grateful GREATFULL!!! Right on the front all pretty with it's embellies for all to see :) I had a tummy ache for days after that one. *face palm* I must say, it kinda looks like an i so I really didn't even notice it :)

Congrats on making fave on CHA :)

Okay, so ever since I started my blog (well, maybe not right from the get-go, it was probably a good six months or so before I realized you could change it from just "Leave your comment") I've tried to come up with something witty to type here.

*sitting with brow furrowed in concentration*...*staring at the ceiling while pursing lips*...*resting with head on hand while tapping foot*...

Nope, I still got nothing.
