The local film industry giant that operated cinemas under its banner for almost half a century, Golden Harvest Cinema chain's parent company Orange Sky Golden Harvest Entertainment issued a listed company notice yesterday to announce that it will close all its doors tomorrow. The group's four cinemas, namely those in Tai Kok Tsui, Tuen Mun, Shau Kei Wan and Tai Po, will close. Golden Harvest Cinemas has closed three cinemas earlier, and will end its Hong Kong cinema business. Orange Sky Golden Harvest said that three of the cinema sites will be leased by new operators, and Golden Harvest gift certificates and other vouchers can continue to be used until September this year. Golden Harvest GH Moviegoer members will be able to transfer to the new operator's membership plan, and the new plan will be announced by the new operator in due course. Movie goer Ms. Yip felt sorry for the closure of Golden Harvest and believed that it was a loss of cultural and entertainment life in the community. The closing of the entire Golden Harvest cinema chain was not unexpected. This year the cinema business has been in a stump, as more than 10 cinemas have bid farewell to their fans including Sun Beam Cinema in North Point, MCL Kornhill Cinema in Tai Koo and Newport Cinema in Mong Kok. After the Whampoa Cinema closed for business, Lee Kui Ming took it over and it would soon become Sun Beam Whampoa; Cine Art Cinemas would take over the Hollywood and Megabox Cinemas in Diamond Hill and they are under renovation.

Golden Harvest Cinemas' parent company, Orange Sky Golden Harvest, will terminate all cinema operations in Hong Kong, marking the farewell of the half-century-old film and related business in Hong Kong to the local cinema market. Looking back at the company's recent action, hints of its retreat from the mainland and Hong Kong cinema market could be traced. In 2017 Orange Sky Golden Harvest sold its mainland business to other cinema chains, and in February this year it also suspended the operation of its flagship Golden Harvest Cinema in Shenzhen. In 2005 the Group opened its first flagship cinema in Shenzhen and as of the end of December 2015, the Group operated 97 cinemas with a total of 716 screens. The group was the first to enter Hollywood, producing English-language films that once sparked Western interest in Hong Kong-made martial arts films. In recent years as the overall performance of Hong Kong's film industry has shrunk, the group has gradually adjusted its business and announced yesterday that it will end its cinema business in Hong Kong.

The Chan Tai Lee directed, Patrick Tam Yiu Man (Ah Tam), Locker Lam Ka Hei, Ying Chi Yuet (Little Cat) and Mark Cheng Ho Nam starred movie FIGHT FOR TOMORROW (PING MING SAM LONG) received a total of about HK$ 360,000 over two days of release (as of the 22nd), and its box office was in trouble. Ah Tam also kept thanking the audience. Seeing the audience praising his wonderful performance, he could not help but cry when he sang the theme song of the movie on stage. Ah Tam and Locker played father and son who swim against the tide and fight for their ideals during the novel coronavirus pandemic in FIGHT FOR TOMORROW; the reality was the same as the two admitted that their acting careers have been bumpy. Locker has thought about giving up because he has had few performance opportunities and unable to support his parents. He planned to go on a working holiday to find another way out. Ah Tam had a mid-life crisis after stepping into his 50s, as he could no longer play the young role, and his turn has not yet arrived for the old ones. However he has not considered giving up, and he understood that letting go would lead to an opportunity for a turnaround.

Ah Tam and Locker worked together for the first time. In order to establish chemistry they met many times in advance to get to know each other. They joked that they rarely talked when they met in order to devote themselves to their roles. Ah Tam said that this was the first time in his film career when he met and communicated with the co-star before the start of filming. Because the film told the story of the two generations desperately going against the current in the days of ever-changing pandemic, and it also involved the relationship between father and son, basically they had to support each other and the roles were equally important. "In addition to talking about movies, we also share things other than movies, such as music preferences. Locker entered the industry in 2016 with WEEDS ON FIRE (DIM NG BO), felt that the results were not as expected. He also thought about giving up at a low point. Only when he ran into FIGHT FOR TOMORROW did he land in the lead. "The past 10 years has had its ups and downs. I wanted to try different genres and roles at the beginning of my career, hoping to be seen but the results have been different from what I expected. My show business career has been iffy, without too many opportunities to perform. When I got into the business I promised my family that I would be able to not only take care of myself during the period but also cover family expenses. Just when I wanted to take a break from the entertainment industry and plan to go on a working holiday to think about my future, someone asked me to make an online video. The exaggerated performance attracted the director, which made me regain the opportunity to make movies. I felt that I was useful, working on the actor job like and be able to make a living."

Locker said that he liked acting, but felt that he was born at the wrong time. The opportunities have indeed decreased during the cold winter of the film industry, but he understood that many things were predestined. He could only find other performances. "I have been lucky in the past few years. I have had the opportunity to perform in stage plays and have been appreciated. The famous martial arts instructor and veteran artist Suet Nei's husband, Tang Chia (Tong Kai, originally named Wong Tong) fell to his death yesterday afternoon at the junction of Austin Road and Pine Hill Road in Tsim Sha Tsui at the age of 88. No suicide note was found at the scene, and the cause of death was pending an autopsy. Reportedly Tong Kai and lived in a unit in Jordan with his wife Suet Nei and their son. The police did not find any suicide note at the scene, and the cause of death was pending an autopsy. Reportedly Suet Nei recently needed to be hospitalized due to pancreatic cancer, and Tong Kai was suspected of being unhappy because of his wife's illness.

The media contacted Chin Kar Lok about Tong Kai's death, and Kar Lok replied that he did not know the reason for Tong Kai's suicide. He was a disciple of Yuen Woo Ping's father Yuen Siu Ping, while working on THE DARK HEROINE MU LANHUA he met his wife Suet Nei. Tong Kai's wife Suet Nei was a popular star in the Cantonese film era. The two had two sons. They once eased out of the entertainment industry and moved to Canada, but later returned to Hong Kong. Tong Kai and Suet Nei had a deep love. Married for more than half a century, they were a model couple in the circle. When Suet Nei later came back to work on TV series, Tong Kai was the "tag-along husband" as he accompanied her in and out of the set. Because Suet Nei found that a genetic disease has affected her ears in the 80s, she was completely deaf in one ear and needed to wear hearing aids. Tong Kai was worried about the inconveniences his wife would face alone outside, hence he constantly stood guard and served as his wife's personal hearing aid. Whenever Tong Kai went to the set with his wife, he would prepare soup lovingly every time. They were inseparable as he accompanied her to work and took good care of her. Suet Nei once said in an interview that her personality was sassy, fortunately she had a significant other who spoiled her. Her husband would always give in during arguments, for which she was grateful inside. Suet Nei announced her official retirement in 2020 due to poor health.

Reportedly Suet Nei has recently suffered from pancreatic cancer and needs to be hospitalized long term for treatment.
