Jeudi Journal - Shut up

The quote today is "Shut up and Colour" - another gem of Dyan's in her Dylusion range.  As I wanted to relate my journal page to Erika's "Hot" challenge at Art Journal Journey I decided to do a beach scene and try to make it look "Hot".  I had a great time with my Distress Inks playing about with the different colours to make the sky.  I used an ordinary pencil to create the horizon line as I thought black was a bit too severe and I also used it to make marks on the sand where people had walked.

You will notice that my palm trees are not green but are in actual fact a charcoal grey colour.  I didn't want them to be green so I chose to use my Pitt Pen which has a lovely nib for colouring without too much colour, and it does not bleed through the paper either.  (My Promarkers do so I can only use them on cut out figures)

Here we have big sister who is very fashion conscious at all times and is wearing, of all things, her Louboutin shoes down on the beach (note the red soles).  She is so inappropriately dressed it is almost comical and what on earth is a dog doing in her hat?  Anyhow she has had to look after her younger sister who is having a 'bit of a moment' and is sulking as she has to wear her dress on the beach but big sister is having none of it and has told her in no uncertain terms to "Shut up and Colour".  Imagine being a child on a beach and having to wear your best clothes just because big sister wants to look, what she thinks is, good!  No wonder she has thrown her book on the floor with her crayons.  You would too wouldn't you?

Now to see what else is in Art Journal Journey, if you want to join in you just follow this link and make a journal page that suggests When It's Hot.  This month Erika is asking you to journal about the summer heat or things you do when it's hot.  She suggests you may even journal what you do to stay cool when its hot - ie think about July and summer (unless you are in the UK lol).  See you with my page next week.

Hi Neet, what a fun journal page! The colouring in the sky is fabulous, love it! Big sister looks very smart, but not quite right for the beach. I can sympathise with the little girl, I was the youngest and always being told what to do by elder siblins, my eldest sister was especially bossy and impatient and I often heard, 'Shut up and read' or 'Shut up and behave yourself!'. Great ideas today, Neet. Have a great day, hugs, Valerie

This is a fun beach page Neet. I love the sky! I use my Pitt pens a lot since they give just enough color and most importantly, don't bled through. Just as you said. Sorry if your summer weather isn't hot-actually sorry for me as I prefer it cooler, especially from today's summer tropical heat. It is like being in a rainforest. I very much love today's page and am much appreciative of you linking up to AJJ. Thank you Neet! Hope it's a nice Thursday so far. Hugs-Erika

I'm not sure which is funnier, the images you created or the scene you set for us using your tale of the scene. I really LOVE this, dear. Thanks for sharing yet another Art Journal Journey entry with us using Erika's theme.

Wonderful sky and another great little story to go with the page. My daughter in law has some of those shoes. I've always wondered how they go on when they get scuffed - as all soles do the moment you wear them ;-) I cannot for the life of me work out why anyone would pay so much just for the soles of their shoes! But I'm just a slob, I know.
Throwing her colouring book and crayons on the floor is a great little touch. I really can imagine this scene.

I'm afraid I was the bossy older sister, until I learned that didn't get me anywhere at all... I only had brothers, and to be fair, I was often left with them (after school, while Mum worked) and instructed to look after them. It's only now that I can see how much of a responsibility that is when you're 9 and 10! And let's face it, we tended to imitate at that age! My brothers still think they're in charge of me, lol, though I'm really close to one of them and he tries to look after me, bless him. Siblings, eh? When you think about it, you're only actually together for a short time, though it doesn't feel like it at the time.
Another great page! Happy weekend! Definitely off to FB now... Cath x

Shut up and Colour - I love it! I wish my mom had said something like that when we complained, "I'm bored!"

She would say things like, "There's dusting to be done or you could do some of my ironing."

Hugs, Eileen

That sky is completely magical! And personally, I'd be happier sitting at home colouring if I had to be dressed like that. Imagine the sand getting in all the folds and frills! Still, big sis is definitely the biz, strutting her stuff.
