A Few Days in Derbyshire

As you probably read we decided to have a few days away last week and chose a hotel in Derbyshire to celebrate (late) Chas' birthday.  On the way down we called at Dunham Massey and to my delight we saw lots and lots of Fallow Deer (think they are "Fallow" ones)

We were lucky to see a heron flying over the lake - he landed in this tree and I actually got a few shots of him.

Unfortunately people in wheelchairs can only go on the ground floor of the house and watch a virtual tour so we decided not to bother, then it came on raining so we headed back to the car.  Saying that we had spent a fair amount of time outside so heading on to the hotel was fine.

Next day we went to Crich Tramway Museum.  This was Chas' choice and I was kind of "not bothered" until I read about it and then I was as enthusiastic as he was.

This is the conductor stood at the back of one of the trams as it makes its way up the main street and on to show passengers stunning views of the Derwent Valley.

This is the Sweet Shop  ...

... the Tardis Police Box which originally stood on the North Circular Road in London and was operated by the Metropolitan Police, and finally ...

... The Red Lion Pub which was rescued from Stoke on Trent and rebuilt brick by brick at the Tramway Museum where we had a glass of cider whilst sat outside in the sunshine.

It really was a great day out and you should look it up on the internet and if ever in the vicinity call in and spend a day wandering and seeing all the trams they have rescued and rebuilt in the Grand Hall. It only costs you one old penny to ride the tram so that is something else you can do - but there is more.  Lots more.

Finally on our third day in Derbyshire we called at Chatsworth on our way home.  What an experience!  Especially for someone in a wheelchair.  They are so lovely with you, nothing is too much trouble and it is all organised so very very well.  I didn't want to go home!

Will post some pictures from Chatsworth another day as I am having problems dowloading them - is this Blogger?

Hope you have enjoyed the ones I have uploaded.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. i've not heard of the tram museum before - will go and look it up. I went to Dunham Massey for 1st time last year and enjoyed it. But one of my most favoured jaunts out is always to Chatsworth. Whether to the house, the gardens or more often than not the farm shop & the garden centre (esp for the carrot cake). The views are so serene and bucolic, it's like going on an an artists' date. Looking forward to seeing your pics. Pxx

Hi Neet. Wow! you packed a lot in your trip. I can't believe they rebuilt the Red Lion brick by brick. Is that a stone lion on the very top? Fab photos. Thanks for sharing those. Definately worth a visit. If ever you are up/down in the Shropshire area. Acton Scott Working Farm is well worth a visit.
Regards Florence x

It sounds like you had a wonderful time Neet. The photo's are lovely. I went to Chatsworth a few years ago with my parents, I was at an age when I wasn't interested in things like that, I was made to go, I'd love to go back again and look at it with older eyes.
