No laughing!

3' and looking adorable.

More under the jump.

Dear Ozzy, this is why you have to LIFT YOUR KNEES.
Needless (ha, knee-dless)to say, he knocked it down. 3'3"
Stasha... this is what I mean by he hangs his knees.

Hmmm... I remember this being higher.

  1. You have great facial expressions going over the jumps!!! It's like you're posing for the camera. Wish I looked that good lol

  2. That's my, "Smile so you don't look like you're gonna die," face. Haha. I usually have this awful grimace when I ride and it takes a lot of effort to look even half pleasant. LOL.

  3. Laugh? Nuh-Uh! You guys are awesome!! Meh, he knocked a rail...that wasn't a crossrail he was jumping! I love your smile, no matter the reason behind it:) Great pictures!

  5. Nice photos!
One thing i noticed is that it looks like you are using PVC poles, which are awesome and we have some, too..... but I don't like to use them for horses that dangle or are disrespectful and plow through jumps (we had a Friesian in training who was notorious for that!). Try replacing them with traditional heavy wooden poles... at least temporarily until he learns to pick up his feet a bit.
You both have the cutest expressions on your faces!! My faces over jumps are not nearly so attractive! Good luck!

  6. We have traditional wooden poles. If he knocks one, he won't go NEAR another jump without a fight. I plan to get him consistent and quiet before I work on his form. We'll be doing gymnastics with cross rails and heavy poles then working our way up.

  7. I have a question, and you're the most "standard-breddy" person I know... LOL.

I love watching TVG, it's a horse racing channel. I pretty watch it every night, I just like to watch the races.

They show standardbred races at different tracks, and I am fairly familiar with standardbred racing equipment, I did used to work for a vet in the lasix barn at Pocono Downs (you've probably heard of that track).

Anyway, I am just wondering what is the very taught looking strap that appears to run from somewhere on the saddle to the bit or the bridle? I cannot ever quite tell where it goes, but it looks almost like a bungee cord or something?? It's very taught and does not appear to be a rein, and I swear it looks like the horses only have it on the left side.

What is it and what does it do?

  8. I have spent a lot of time at Pocono Downs. LOL. I think you're referring to the head pole. It's literally a pole that attaches to one side of the harness and goes to a special ring on the race halter (under the bridle). It keeps the horses' necks straight, which makes them use their shoulders around the turns and prevents them from making breaks (cantering).

You can see it pretty clearly in this photo:
