The Dusty Attic DT - Love

Hello Dusty Attic fans!!

Today I am sharing my take on the gorgeous August mood board at The Dusty Attic.

I was totally inspired by the lovely soft blues and cream in the inspiration image as well as some of the fabulous NEW RELEASE chipboard for my layout.

'Love'

I really do love to be inspired by a mood board. For me the best part is the treasure hunt through my stash to find the right coloured papers and embellishments. I set myself the challenge of using the stunning Windows and Shutters chipboard on this layout. I really loved the look of it combined with the Hanging Vines chipboard as a window box.

I added the cute Skeleton Fish as a whimsical touch especially with the photo of my darling Burmese Noodle. Strangely she doesn't even like fish and refuses to eat it!! Weird cat.

I painted the Windows and Shutters, Hanging Vines and the fabulous Fancy Frame # 10 (underneath my stack of layers) with white gesso followed by Cashmere Dusty In Colour. I added a bit of white gesso on top of the window and shutters too for a shabby chic finish. I always use a latex make-up wedge to apply my paint as it gives a lovely smooth finish free from brushstrokes or loose paintbrush hairs. You can also daub the paint on with it for a more textured look.

I used both the NEW Burlap Stencil as well as the Leaves # 3 Stencil on the background paper with the Cashmere paint. It added nicely to the texture that was already part of the patterned paper.

I painted the title first with white gesso and then with Faded Denim Dusty In Colour paint.

I created lots of layers with my papers and chipboard elements and tucked some of the gorgeous Dusty In Bloom flowers under the edges. I finished with some cute Mini Hearts that I painted white using my trusty Posca Paint Pen and some little paw prints cut from a patterned paper.

Flutterby Designs DT - Love You

Happy Monday Flutterby peeps!!

Today I have another layout to share for August for FLUTTERBY DESIGNS featuring the Happily Ever After collection.

This layout shows how you can use lots of leftover scraps of patterned paper and filler cards. I pretty much used just leftover bits for the layers under my photo which I cropped into a non-standard size. I love using up all of my little leftover bits this way. They are great for cards too.

I used the fabulous 'All You Need Is Love' Stencil with some texture paste on the heavy white cardstock background. Once dry, I diluted some Orange Goldfish and Raspberry Punch Flutter Colour Paint with water and spritzed the layout with heaps of water too. I used a soft wet paintbrush to add the diluted paints to the layout letting them spread across the wet surface and create pools of colour. I left it to dry for a while before I used a bit of scrunched paper towel to mop up the excess water in some places. I finished off the drying with a heat gun.

I had heaps of paint left over and because I hate to waste it, I used the same technique to add it to a page in one of my art journals. Now I have a page ready to go! I always keep an art journal or tag handy to mop up any paint/ink leftover from projects. Saves heaps of time later.

I used an eclectic mix of wood veneer, page tabs, filler cards and sticky quick quotes to add extra detail and interest.

Here's what I used:

- 12 x 12 Blanket Thief patterned paper
- 12 x 12 Boring Together patterned paper
- 12 x 12 Forever and Ever patterned paper
- Wood Veneer Bits

- 'Mad About You' Wood Veneer
- White Tiny Sticky Quotes

The Dusty Attic DT - Sun Kissed

Hello Dusty Attic fans!

Belinda here today to share my August layout for The Dusty Attic featuring a lovely mix of NEW RELEASE and older chipboard pieces as well as a couple of awesome stencils.

'Sun Kissed'

I couldn't wait to use the new Sand Dollar and Starfish chippies so I just had to create a beach layout. I started by adding a lovely mint coloured mist to my background. Once dry, I added stencilling using two different stencils. Why stick to just one stencil when you create extra interest on your background by combining one or two or even more. I love the new Burlap stencil and it is quickly becoming one of my favourites. I started by swiping some texture paste over the Burlap stencil. I used it in three different places on the layout. I dried it with my heat gun before adding some more texture paste over the Confetti Stencil. This stencil is perfect for adding a bit of sea spray to your project. I dried this off with the heat gun too. I used a white paint pen (Posca) to highlight some of the circles from the Confetti stencil.

Here's a closer look at the stencilling.

Next I added my usual layers of co-ordinating patterned paper. Adding so many layers is such a great way to use up patterned paper scraps!

I painted all of the chipboard pieces with heavy white gesso. I gave them three coats to make sure they were lovely and crisp. White embellishments just seem to work so well with beach layouts I think.

I layered all of the chipboard and my photo next. It turned out to be quite a bulky layout but I love that. The more dimension the better I reckon.

Here's a closer look at all of the chipboard pieces.

Flutterby Designs DT - Love This Kid

Happy Saturday Flutterby peeps!!

Belinda here today to share a layout created using the fabulous Flutterby Designs Happily Ever After collection.
This time I have used the collection to create a layout featuring a photo of my darling daughter.

'Love This Kid'

I created a base for my layout using the stunning 12 x 12 Forever & Ever patterned paper. I love the mix of beautiful colours in this watercolour look paper. I also love when the background paper is so good that you really don't have to do anything to it. I have used it just as it is.

I then picked out some Everyday Etc Filler Cards that matched the colours in the paper as well as an offcut of the I'll Keep You 12 x 12 patterned paper and layered those together. I tucked in some scraps of fussy cuts and added my photo on top with 3D foam.

I used the same offcut of patterned paper as well as a bit of the Love Potion paper to back my title. The 'Love' is from the Wood Veneer Bits pack and the 'This Kid' I fussy cut from the 'Kids' Fussy Cut pack.

I added a couple more wood veneer bits to balance the layout as well as some cute hearts from the Die Cut Bits & Bobs pack and some sweet enamel dots. I finished with some Tiny Rainbow Sticky Quick Quotes.

Here's what I used:

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I hope you find some time to play with your own stash of Flutterby goodies this weekend.
