Where does the name chickenpants come from?
I actually can't remember how exactly I came up with Chickenpants. I really enjoy playing with words, bad puns, and the like, so it no doubt cropped up when I was doing that.
¿De donde viene el nombre chickenpants? A decir verdad no recuerdo cómo se me ocurrió lo de Chickenpants. Me gustan mucho los juegos de palabras y cosas por el estilo, así que sin duda surgió cuando estaba haciendo algo así.

How long have you been crafting?I've been crafting ever since I can remember. School vacations always began with a big trip to the craft store in an attempt to keep me busy...which never worked for too long.
¿Hace cuánto que te dedicas a la artesanía? Desde que tengo memoria. Las vacaciones escolares siempre empezaban con un viaje a la tienda de manualidades en un intento de mantenerme ocupada ... cosa que nunca sucedía por mucho tiempo.

When did you decide you want to open an online shop?When I found Etsy, I was really inspired. I had started my own online store before, but the marketing and coding was just too overwhelming to keep up. Etsy made it so easy, and I just felt it was time to share what I create with the world. (i.e. I was finally brave enough)
¿Cuándo decidiste abrir tu propria tienda online? Cuando descubrí Etsy, fue una verdadera inspiración. Empecé mi tienda online antes, pero el marketing y el html eran demasiado para llevarlos al día. Etsy me lo puso fácil, y sentí de que era hora de compartir lo que creo con el mundo (o lo que es lo mismo, tuve el valor para hacerlo).

Do you live upon it?Not really. All the proceeds I make with Absolutely Small are currently just going back into Absolutely Small to keep the momentum going...er, the ones that don't get diverted into buying something cute, that is.
¿Vives de ésto?La verdad es que no. Todos los beneficios de Absolutely Small se van de momento de vuelta a Absolutely Small, para que esto sigo adelante... mmm, bueno, todo aquello que no se me va en comprar algo bonito.



If you could put chickenpants in a few words what would it be?
Chickens with personalities and dubious taste in pants.

Do you have any sort of ritual or special situation you need when crafting?
I need to have music on to start. I like to have it on in the background.

In your shop we can find plushies, prints, painting and some collage work. What is the first you experience with, and which is your favourite, if any?
I've always had a hard time sticking with only one medium. I've been painting and drawing the longest, though, and I always seem to come back to it. My favorite right now is the plush- but I've starting making some odd little collages, and they're very fun.
En tu tienda podemos encontrar peluches, grabados, pinturas y trabajos de collage. ¿Qué fue el primero con el que experimentaste y cuál es tu favorito?, si tienes alguno.
Siempre me ha resultado difícil quedarme con un sólo medio. Lo que hago hace más tiempo es pintar y dibujar, y siempre parece que vuelva a ello. Mi favorito ahora mismo son los peluches -pero he empezado a hacer algunos collages algo particulares, que me divierten mucho

What advice would you give to someone thinking of opening a e-shop?
Good photographs of your items are essential. Be prepared to put in very long hours without seeing much return for awhile...and do all the research you can!
¿Qué consejo le darías a alguien que quiere abrir una tienda online?
Buenas fotografías son esenciales. Estad preparados para dedicarle largas horas sin verle nada a cambio durante un tiempo ... e !investigad todo lo que podais!

What is your favourite material and the last you experimented with?
I love to work with vintage fabrics. Last experimented with is hard to say...I do a lot of experimenting! I'd have to say either the Derwent Inktense pencils or pen nibs & ink.

Me encanta trabajar con telas vintage. No sabría decir cuál es la última con la que experimenté ... ¡experimento mucho!Creo que los lápices Derwe Inktense , o pluma y tinta.



Can you tell us which is the piece of work you cherish the most?
I have a portrait I made of my dog, Topanga a few years back. It's kind of a mosaic made of seed beads, and it's just my favorite of all the ones I've made of her.
¿Nos puedes decir cuál es la pieza a la que le tienes más cariño?Es un retrato que hice de mi perrita, Topanga, hace un par de años. Es una especie de mosaico hecho de cuentas, y es mi favorito de todos los que he hecho de ella.

And you bestseller?Online, it's the Chickenpants items. When I'm at shows, it's often the Wee Goats.

If you won the lottery tomorrow what would you do?
An around-the-world shopping trip immediately comes to mind.

Let us know the story behind your brand name.
Well, do you remember an advertisement were a car was driven by Kermit the frog? The original ad is in German, and when Kermit stops the car he screams “Ei!!! Kumpel!! (…)”. When we (me and my boyfriend) saw this version of the ad, we were overwhelmed with such cuteness. It was remarkable and so funny that we started calling each other Ei! Kumpel. (Kumpel is the German word for friend or pal.) By the time we had to name the store it was pretty easy: Ei! Kumpel!! (You can see the ad here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoegebCYCpE)
Cuéntanos la historia que hay detrás del nombre de tu marca.
Bueno, ¿te acuerdas del anuncio en el que la Rana Gustavo está conduciendo un coche? Está en alemán y cuando Gustavo para el coche grita: "Ei Kumpel!! (...)" Cuando vimos esta versión del anuncio (mi novio y yo) nos quedamos abrumados con lo mono que era. Empezamos a llamarnos el uno al otro "Ei, Kumpel! (...)". (Kumpel signigica en alemán amigo o colega. In your flickr profile you say at the beginning you thought you didn't have any talent for handmade art, when and how did you discover you could make this wonderful softies, brooches, etc?
My grandmother and my mother taught me crafty things since I was a child, so I have some kind of background. I discover that I was in fact a creative person two years ago. I was going through a phase of lots of work and I was tired; I searched for something to do that was different from my everyday life and my mum gave me some materials that I started to explore by making several brooches for myself
En tu perfil de flickr dices que al principio pensabas que no tenías ningún tipo de talento para la artesanía, ¿cuándo y cómo descubriste que podías hacer estos maravillosos peluches, broches, etc?
Mi abuela y mi madre me enseñaron a hacer manualidades cuando era una niña, así que algo de base. Descubrí que era una persona creativa hace dos años. Estaba pasando por una fase en la que tenía un montón de trabajo y estaba cansada; buscaba algo que hacer a mi día a día y mi madre me dió algo de material que empecé a explorar haciendo broches para mi misma.

I make crafts! For me it’s the best way to completely focus on something and forget the world outside.

¡Hago mis manualidades! Para mi es el mejor modo de concentrarse completamente en algo y olvidarse del mundo exterior.



Do you have any moto that applies to your crafting philosophy?
Originality, quality and something fun.

Traveling… I love to travel! See the world, get inspired!

Well, I have an etsy shop , my own shop and blog I also have a flickr account and a trunkt account
Dinos dónde te podemos encontrar en internet.
Bueno, tengo una tienda etsy, mi propia tienda y un blog. También tengo una cuenta flickr y otra trunkt.



How do you promote your shop?
Every product as a brand tag and it ships with a card with all the shop details. I'm a true believer in word of mouth. I post quite often in my blog and I leave comments in loads of other blogs. I go to etsy’s forums, post pictures in my flickr account… I try to get as much exposure as possible
¿Cómo promocionas tu tienda?
Cada producto tiene una etiqueta con la marca y se envía con una tarjeta con toda la información sobre la tienda. Creo firmemente en el boca a boca. Posteo a menudo en mi blog y dejo un montón de comenterios en otros blogs. Visito los forums de Etsy, subo fotos a mi cuenta flickr .... Intento tener toda la exposición que me sea posible.


What can you say you have learnt from your etsy experience so far?
Etsy is an amazing place but it’s also very hard and competitive because there are so many sellers (and so many great sellers!). So far, I have learned that you need to have great products that stand out, great photos that appeal to potential clients and you have to promote your shop a lot.
¿Al día de hoy qué es lo que puedes decir que has aprendido de esta experiencia?
Esty es un lugar sorprendente pero también es muy duro y competitivo porque hay muchos vendedores (¡muchos bienos también!). Al día de hoy, he aprendido que se necesita tener productos estupendos que destaquen, buenas fotos que atraigan a los clientes potenciales y que hay que promocionar tu tienda un montón.


Do you read any kind of creative publication such as Craftzine or others?
Apart from the tons of blogs that I read, I read Craftzine and Marie Claire Ideés magazines.

Is there any creation you cherish in a special way?
Yes, Mr Comma is my dearest creation… It was the first plush I ever designed and created so it’s really special to me.

Sí, Mr Comma es la creación a la que más cariño tengo .... Fue el primer peluche que diseñé y creé así que es verdaderamente especial para mi.




Where do you find inspiration?
I’m a very visual person and I’m inspired by life in general, patterns, colours, music, travel, art galleries, books. Sometimes just a piece of fabric or a button is enough. Mozart really inspires me!
¿En qué cosas encuentras la inspiración?
Soy una persona muy visual y me inspiro en la vida en general, estampados, colores, música, viaje, galerias de arte, libros. A veces tan sólo un trozo de tela o un botón es suficiente. ¡Mozart me inspira realmente!



Do you live upon crafting?
No, not at all.

No, para nada.

What sort of people do you have in mind when you make your works?
Funky, original and happy people that like to stand out. People that like to use original and unique brooches.When I’m making plush dolls I think about sweet, cute and lovely people.
¿Qué tipo de personas tienes en mente cuando creas tus artículos?
Gente divertida, original y feliz a la que le gusta destacar. Gente a la que le gusta usar broches únicos y originales. Cuando hago peluches pienso en gente dulce, encantadora y tierna.

If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would you do?
I think I would do many things, but when I think about my passion for crafts I imagine myself running my own business or having a craft store, a funky and super cute place!
