Project Life 2015 ~ February 15 - 28

Project Life 2015

February 15

A lot of cleaning was done this week because we are going to have a house full, Andy left a week ago and Marilyn is going to be here today. She hasn't been able to pick up herself since Dan (my brother-in-law) passed in November, we invited her to come stay with us for a week, hope to cheer her up.

February 16

DH likes burgers, but for me, Shake Shack is about the only burger I would eat, we took Marilyn there today....

and then we go to Bellagio to see the musical fountain

I never get tired of Fiori di Como at the lobby of Bellagio, the million dollar chandelier by glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, I had hundreds of photos but still can't help myself to take another one today

February 19

We took Marilyn to the casinos everyday, she loves the slot machines, but today, we are doing something different - Donny and Marie Show.

We watched the show a year and a half ago, and can't believe that this show is totally different, new content, new songs, everything new, they both are still very good, they still have their voices, they work very hard, you will not be disappointed walking out of the theatre.

We are happy that Marilyn loves it too!

February 20

We took Marilyn to Bacchannal Buffet at Caesars Palace, they are very pricy but we thought it worth every single cent to bring our guest there.

This is the chinese new year display at Caesars Palace

February 21

Clare came home with Jared and 3 other friends from school, they left school at 8 and only got to Vegas at 2 am.
Marilyn is leaving noon today, we are going to miss seating outside at our backyard for breakfast every morning, strolling the casinos, we are going to miss her very much, please come back again Marilyn, we love having you here.

Dolce is going to be home today as well, she will be here for a week.

In the evening, we all went to the restaurant to celebration Chinese New Year with the Singapore Club.

February 22

Clare and her gang left this morning, back to school.

February 26

When Dolce is home, we always do a lot of cooking and baking, I tried to bake the things she likes, like Kueh Lapis, an Indonesian layered cake, we also do a batch of pineapple tarts for Chinese New Year, tried a new Bah Kwah (pork jerkey) recipe too

Today we went to the dog park again, with Dolce.

When Papi is at the dog park, he had to pee like 300 times, LOL! Caught in the act Papi!

and then he go watch other play, the other dogs are rough, so Papi just stand and watch

"Are you ok?" asked Papi

February 28

We went to the airport with Dolce this morning, she is flying back to NYC and we are flying to St Jose for a Singapore event called the Singapore Community Day

Saratoga Spring picnic ground where the event was held, is a beautiful place

it was a fun day, I have a post on the Singapore Club site if you want to read about it.

This is the first time DH and I took photos at a photo booth.

PTI Make it Monday #200 ~ Layering Cover Plate Die Cuts

In the Lunar Calendar, today is 立春 (Beginning of Spring), I hope all the unfortunate events happened at the Singapore Club I volunteer will come to an end, and SPRING brings hope and happiness, things will be going smoothly from today!

Chinese New Year is also on its way (February 19th), that inspired the New Year Card I make today......

for the challenge:

the cover plate I used is the latest release from PTI China Town cover plate

Red and Orange is the lucky colors for Chinese

I cut out the chinese characters 快乐安康  from my red packet....

快乐 means Happiness
and 安康 means safe and healthy
these are some of the things people said to each other on Chinese New Year, wishing your friends happiness, good health and be safe throughout the year, I framed it with gold trim because gold is another lucky color in the Chinese culture.

Wishing YOU, my friends 快乐安康 too!

When I finished the card, I saw a white area at the bottom of the card, kind of an eye sore for me, so I used the negative from this die.....

to make some confetti..... it symbolized red fire crackers, where you can see during Chinese New Year at most part of the world that celebrated the lunar new year (not from the place I grew up though, but I do seen it in pictures growing up) and gold coins, Chinese do like those, LOL!

I feel like I have to explain a little about the red packet I mentioned earlier too (seen here next to my card on the right)

the red packet is like a little envelope where you put money inside, give it to your kids, other children and your elderly like parents, grandparents during chinese new year, you'll received them regardless how old you are until you get married, then you give to others, that is why my sister refused to get married, LOL, just kidding!

Overall, I am happy with my Chinese New Year Card, how about you?

City Crafter Challenge Blog ~ Week 43 All that glitters.....

This week at City Crafter is a tough one for me, LOL!
Ros wants us to use GOLD and SILVER on our project, boy oh boy, I don't think I have anything done in these colors.... oh well, I love to be challenged, that is one way I push myself out of my comfort zone, no more purple, lilac and pink on this one!!!!!!

Since it is Chinese New Year (The Lunar New Year is 15 days long), I decided to make a Chinese New Year card for next year, LOL!

Chinese New Year is all about RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GOLD.... all the "lucky colors" according to the Chinese.

these gold embossing power leaves my face all glittered....

In the Chinese custom, parents give this little packet to their children on New Year's Eve, it contains $$$$, it symbolized all things good - good health, luck, fortune etc...
Children received from elderly these little packet too, as long as you are not married, even you are 59, you'll still get these little red packet with money from your parents, your grandparents, your aunts and uncles etc....

Hop over to City Crafter Challenge Blog to see what our DT created for you, and we have Johanna as Guest Designer this week, I adore Johanna soft and romantic style, she is one of the first few crafters that I get my inspiration from when I first started blogging about a year ago.

And my dear blog buddy Sylvia Nelson is sponsoring City Crafter this week with a beautiful prize package, hurry, hop over and see what you stand to win.
