new traditions (with tutorial)

Good morning! I am back again with a canvas that I made for the numbers challenge at Crafts 4 Eternity (where there is also a DT call going on, if you are interested!). I also took a few photos along the way, to show you how I made it.

This is also my guest design piece for Mixed Media Mojo, where I just happen to be this month's guest designer. The challenge there this month is 'new', with the added twist of '15'.

And finally, this is also my piece for the Documented Life Project where for Week 1 the art challenge is book paper and the journal prompt: be your own goal keeper.

I've got a few numbers on my piece. My 15 is on the bottom left hand house, to the right of the pink button. Some of the buttons have numbers stamped on them too.

Here is how I made the canvas.

I started off with an 8 x 8 inch canvas and covered the front and all four sides with Kaisercraft book paper. I used mod podge to adhere the paper to the canvas and then as a seal over the top.

I then added a dollop of gesso to the canvas and then used an old credit card to scrape it over the front and sides of the canvas. The idea is to still be able to see the book paper underneath, but it is now muted slightly.

I then put some mod podge on my craft sheet and added a little Distress Paint ~ Pickled Raspberry. You don't need too much of either. I then mixed them together thoroughly.

Again, using my old credit card, I scraped the mixture over my piece. Not too heavily. I still want to see the book paper peeking through in places underneath. The mod podge helps to seal in the gesso layer below.

I then free cut some houses and a cloud and added them to the papers. I used old Sassafraslass papers that I had. These made it really easy to create my design and the papers have layers within themselves.

Again, covering all the sides.

I then began to work all the paper pieces into the canvas using Faber-Castell Pitt Pens, rub-ons and rubber stamping.

I added real buttons, inspired by the button images on the papers. Then I stamped on them, to merge them into the piece.

The blue speckles on this photo are glitter, which I added on with mod podge.

The windows and door were free cut using the left over scraps from the original Kaisercraft paper that was my first layer on the canvas. You are my sunshine my only sunshine.

You make me happy when skies are grey.

You can still see some of the first layers of uncovered Kaisercraft book paper peeking through in places.

Birds-a-twitter

Hi everyone! Happy weekend and what a glorious sunny day it was today. At Crafts 4 Eternity this week, we have a theme of SOCIAL MEDIA. So be inspired by facebook, twitter etc.

I thought I'd do a bird themed project, inspired by Twitter. So I upcycled a Maya Road bird shaped chip board album to make this mini album.
I've decorated both sides of each bird with Sassafraslass ~ Sweetly Smitten papers.
For the bird on the front and back of the album, I've added wings made with the Tim Holtz Sizzix ~ Heart Wings die.
I've decorated each side in such a way that a little photo can be added in most cases.
Each chipboard piece has a different eye on each side.
I just rummaged around in my stash to find bits to decorate them with.
This next side is one of my favourites. Love that pink Teresa Collins flower ribbon.
There are six chipboard pieces in total.
And now I'm running out of things to say, so will just show you the rest.

This is another of my favourites, with the leaf tail.

I'm going to enter this in at the following challenges:

    love birds

I am so, so glad it is the weekend. Now it would be nice if the sun came out for two days, pretty please.
The challenge this week at Crafts 4 Eternity is a colour challenge coffee & cream.

Here is a notebook I made with these colours.

    Papers: Sassafraslass ~ Dreamy.

I used the Tim Holtz ~ Bird Cage die, which I painted and added a word stick.

The bird images, which I embossed are by Crafty Individuals.

Don't forget the design team call at Crafts 4 Eternity which ends at midnight GMT tonight.

    blueberry pie

Welcome to another Friday at Crafts 4 Eternity.

Today we have another awesome sketch, which is so versatile, I had many ideas for this so may well use it again. Also use autumnal colours. I decided not to go with the traditional autumn colours of oranges and browns. Instead, I was inspired by blueberries and upon choosing the papers also picked up on the yellows.

Papers: Sassafraslass ~ Woodland Whimsy: Blueberry Grove, including a section of the border, which I added to the side of the tag.

I distressed a tag, by crumpling it up a bit and inking the edges. Then I decided to stamp a script stamp on there.

I didn't wait for the ink to dry before I glimmer misted it, so of course the wording ran. I was going to throw it away, but quite liked the colours that ran out of it as it matched all my other pieces! I ran it by OH who said he liked it!!! Shock horror! I said, but you can't like it, look all the ink has run and it's distressed. I still like it, he said. Uhmmmmmm. So I went with it.

The image is Magnolia ~ Blueberry Tilda just knew I had to use her with these papers. I coloured her with copics and added some stickles. Those blueberries really sparkle!

The flowers and leaves are Prima, I inked the edges and glimmer misted them. I added some Tim Holtz film strip ribbon.

A couple of lace circles with hand stitched buttons.

The cork clock is Pink Paislee and I added a Tim Holtz game spinner.

I am also entering this into the following challenges:
    'something yummy': Raise the Bar
    'colours of autumn': Allsorts Challenge
'B themed embellishments': Creative Belli Challenge
'D is for distressing': ABC Challenge
    'lace': Just Magnolia
    'autumn/fall': Creative Card Crew
    'polka dots': Wednesday Stamper

    getaway ... destination unknown

Well here we are back at Friday again! That was quick!

The challenge this week at  Crafts 4 Eternity is the sketch and to include an aperture.

I am also entering this into two challenges:

    'lace & sparkle': Creative Inspirations.

    'all distressed': Sir Stampalot.

    Here is my finished piece.

Papers: Sassafraslass ~ Dreamy. I've distressed, inked and machine stitched the edges.

I made an aperture with a Maya Road chipboard frame which I painted with crackle paint, inked the edges and rubbed in some stickles for good measure.

The image is Magnolia ~ Travelling Tilda Sitting. I coloured her with copics and added some stickles.

The little tags are Making Memories which I've had for an age, so it's nice to be able to use some up.

    Thanks for looking.

I'll be back over the weekend with my ladies loo banner, I just need to sort out the pics.

Christmas is coming ... manga style

When I saw that the theme this fortnight over at The Sugar Bowl was 'Christmas', I just had to join in. Especially as I'd just purchased some of the new Manga Christmas stamps.

Here is the sketch that they provided.

All papers used (apart from the Bazzill) are from the Sassafraslass ~ Serendipity: Life at the Pole collection.

I've used my Martha Stewart ~ Snowflake punch and my Fiskars ~ Antique Elegance circle punch everywhere I could! I've inked the edges and added stickles for some extra Christmas sparkle.

As usual with my photos, zoom in for a closer view of the detail.

The snowflake trim across the middle was made from Bazzill ~ Just the Edge Cardstock Strips. I cut apart each snowflake, inked the edges and added some stickles. I'm having a bit of a stickle thing going on a the moment you might have guessed!

The image is Sugar Nellie ~ Miss Clasue. Isn't she just darling?

I coloured her with my copics and added yet more stickles to the white trims.

The 'Christmas is coming' sentiment is a rub-on.

    Thank you for looking.

    thinking of you

My card today is for three challenges:

The sketch I used is from this week's challenge at Sketch and Stash, which I spun around 90 degrees. The papers and stamp that I used are all new and have never been used before.

I am also entering this into the Secret Crafter Saturday Challenge and the Dutch Dare Card Challenge, where the challenge in each case is 'glitter'. I have used glitter brads and stickles.

Here is my card and if it looks a little wonky, it is! I hadn't finished sticking it all down properly but wanted to photograph it in the five minutes of available light I had left.

The base card is Bazzill Swiss Dot and patterned papers are from the Sassafraslass ~ Vintage Yummy collection.

I used Daintily and Blossomed to create a double layered distressed heart which I edged with Stickles.
The image is a Gorjuss Girl and I coloured her with my copics and added some more stickles to the wings.
The heart is sitting on a piece of Darling Dear which I matted and stitched with my sewing machine. I also stitched on a strip of shaped border from the papers.
The ribbon trim is from my stash and is held in place at each end, with glitter brads.
Below is a close up of the sentiment and you can also see some of the sparkle on the card. I made the 'you' from chipboard letters which I embossed with Tim Holtz ~ Distress Embossing Powder and then added some stickles.
    Thank you for looking.
