Capitol Jazz Classics Vol 13 - Strictly Bebop

Another reposted request from a few years back.

A little bebop. This one from the Capitol Classics series. Some really great stuff on this one including a couple of vocal tracks by the ever entertaining Babs Gonzales.
As much as I love the fiery intensity of the the small bebop combos, I really enjoy this big band stuff. Particularly when no one is about and you can crank it up on the stereo. The way the orchestra punches is like a loving kick in the chops.
The line up on these tracks is beyond measure, but just the same I have to mention how much I enjoy picking Art Pepper's short solo on Prelude To A Nightmare. On the other hand, trying to pick out Coltrane (on rare alto sax) is like looking for Waldo.

Clifford Brown - Pure Genius Vol 1

Now this is a hard bop date!!! Brownie wails, Rollins hangs tough and Roach pounds on these live tracks. Ritchie Powell managed to hold his own. George Morrow is solid. And now I am not listing the personnel below!!

These tracks were produced from private recordings in the possession of Brownie's wife. The tapes were in less than perfect shape and Roach was instrumental in restoring them.

Was there ever a Vol 2?

Absolutely dig Cole Porter. Probably my greatest, (not so) secret indulgence.

And damn if he didn't translate well to the jazz idiom.

Sonny Rollins - Croydon 1986

Here's another thing that I had to transfer over from cassette. Got this as a member of IAJRC. They had a "lending library" where you could get copies of some odd shows. I got this, a Mingus Big Band show and a long interview with Hawkins, which I erased half of accidentally. Those were the days....

This is originally taken from a BBC radio show. The performance was recorded at Fairfield Hall, Croydon, U.K.

I have taken the original BBC intro and moved it to the end, as well as an interview with Rollins that was the radio "break". This way the concert is all in one piece and you can listen to the conversation separately.

I have not been able to identify a couple of the songs. Help requested.
