when in new york last october,

my friend anna asked me to meet her at littleneck in greenpoint.

after our meeting, i went back there twice

it means that i went there three times in less than two days :)

i totally liked the vibe of this place.

looking at their instagram, i realized that i also loved the way they communicate - signs, menus, flyers. so cool !

got the chance to go to the agnes martin retrospective at the guggenheim

maybe one of the most beautiful exhibitions i've ever seen.

her works fit the museum so perfectly.

From Calder to O'Keeffe

C'était en décembre il me semble. Le Whitney Museum annonçait sa nouvelle exposition 

"American Legends : from Calder to O'Keeffe"

Une excitation aussitôt suivie d'une déception. Jamais je n'irai.

Et puis, les décisions de dernière minute..

Calder, Hanging mobile

Un petit escalier, sous les mobiles d'Alexander Calder, nous emmène dans une salle dédiée à ses oeuvres.

Pour tout fan du travail de Calder, comme un espace magique, où se rencontrent toutes ses structures flottantes, et où l'on retrouve également les éléments de son petit cirque. 

O'Keeffe, Morning Sky

Georgia O'Keeffe me fascine. Une relation love/hate pour elle et ses oeuvres. 

Je me souviens l'avoir découverte au National Cowgirl Museum de Fort Worth. Une exposition temporaire revenant sur sa vie. Peut-être l'exposition qui m'aura le plus touchée. 

A mon retour en France, je m'empressais de faire le maximum de recherche sur cette femme à la vie passionnante, mais restant néanmoins plutôt insensible à ces oeuvres.

Et puis, au Whitney, de loin je vois Summer Days. Il serait difficile de décrire l'émotion ressentie à ce moment-là, comme si je retrouvais quelqu'un que je n'avais pas vu depuis longtemps. Je m'approche en vitesse du tableau. C'était ça. Comme si je retrouvais Geogia O'Keeffe, que je n'avais jamais revue depuis le Cowgirl Museum.

Et puis il y avait Morning Sky, l'un des rares tableaux me réconciliant avec son travail.

Et parmi les autres favoris, la collection de paysages du Maine par Marsden Hartley, puis Charles Burchfield, Stuart Davis...
