Flirting with a Black Cat Monday

Julie: So here I was, enjoying time on my sunny porch
when mom came in with shocking news!

Mom and her sister were on their way to see how
things were going with the deck replacement on one of our
harbour bridges, the Angus L MacDonald Bridge
.She saw something else along the way.

Another black cat!
This fellow came running over to Mom and her sister
looking for some attention.

Mom gave him some. She said he was very friendly and really
liked belly rubs and scritches.
He did go back to his home after a while and I must say,
I am very happy about that!
Since she did not bring him home, I will forgive
her cheating...this time.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

I am proud of my daughter, as mom's are, but doubly proud this week. She added a bitty house panther to her pride. Meet Jacen.

It started last Saturday with a trip to the pet store to get Frontline for the two she and my son-in-law already have; Faux, a Maine Coon, and Tobey, an orange marmalade. The pet store was having an adopt-a-thon. $10 for each pet. Jacen and another kitten, Jaina, a calico, had been injured and were coming off rehabilitation at a foster home. They had bonded so the store asked that they be adopted together. I got a text on Saturday afternoon, "We may have just done something stupid."

I know I'm preaching to the choir, since we all love house panthers, but it's not stupid to have the means to give cats/kittens homes. They arrived on Sunday and have settled in. Tobey wasn't interested in them at all, but Sunday and Monday evenings, he followed my daughter into the kitchen, sat down and "complained" to her. She said they knew it was a complaint by the tone of the meow. He has not hissed at them.

Faux hissed briefly on Sunday evening, but then retreated to his lofty perch atop the bookshelves in the dining room. Monday evening, he walked up to Jaina, sniffed her and walked away. My son-in-law has never had kittens in his house. He's always had adults. These two are 14 weeks old.

My daughter said it was kind of sad to be at the adoption event. They had 7 black kittens and, while people were cooing over them, she didn't see anyone take one home. She knows how much I love Pilchard and how I stress that black cats are the least adopted so that kind of pushed them over the edge. Plus, my son-in-law is a huge Star Wars fan. He now has his "Darth Vader"-esq cat, even if he named them after Han Solo and Princess Leia's children. My daughter has discovered a problem I have. Black cats are hard to photograph and doubly so when they are kittens with boundless energy.

Love,

Pilchard's mom.

It's What Now

Hi from Pilchard's mom.

I was gone last weekend which causes more than a little stress around here. Pilchard has decided to remind me of what I missed.

I love the look on her face. We could do a whole caption event with this photo. She's also been waking me up about 1 am, sitting on the pillow next to me and meowing. No, I don't have photos of that.

I like to think that we black cat co-habitors (I don't really like the term 'owner' because I'm not sure who owns whom in my house) are cool every day of the year, but especially on this date. Pilchard used to sit in the front window and watch the trick or treaters arrive until one little boy thought it would be fun to rush the window and scream at her. Since then, she hides.

Said recollection leads me to my next point. Although I know I'm 'preaching to the choir', as it were, I hope you will all keep your House Panthers safe tonight. I came back from my trip with raging allergies and a nasty cough so I'm not handing out treats this year. That will mean few stomps on the front steps and few rings of the doorbell, which send both of my girls scurrying. So, Pilchard is saying to me, "I don't care how cool you think my living with you makes you, I am not amused by this holiday."

Have a happy and safe Halloween, wherever you are.

Love,

Pilchard, Mija and their mom

I Guess I'm Impressed

Mom finished a craft project last week.

I sort of did pose for this, I have to admit.

But she brings out the camera with that flashy thing and I just don't want to sit still. This project came out okay, even if my sister sniffed it and wasn't amused.

If you want to see how mom did this, head over to her blog and read about it. Me? I'm just going to lounge around.

Maybe I should charge a modeling fee.

Love Pilchard.

I (Heart) You, So Long As It Comes With Treats

So mom got some fancy letters in the mail today and the postman stomped up the front steps and left a couple of boxes by the front door. Mom's happy and I've made peace with my sister.

Now, I knew something was up because she moved all her piles on the living room table into one big pile and started putting other stuff on the table. Then there was the camera.

Mija and I know that sound. Mom gave us treats as she usually does when she comes home from work, but there were more treats; more and more treats. She kept tempting me to come closer and closer to her and twice tried to pick me up. Well, really. What's a lady to do? I went behind the recliner and peered out at her.

Then, she sat down to read a magazine and the smell of treats just got to me. Up I hopped on the table and out came the camera. I was going to run ... but treats!

Oh well.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone. May your humans give you lots of treats, even if it means having your photo taken.

See you next week.

Pilchard

(From Pilchard's mom, I truly admire Julie's mom and Crepes' mom. How you can get those beautiful photos of your felines without resorting to a dozen cat treats is beyond me.)
